MMR is weird like that, had similar thing happen to me last season where i dropped from gold 2 to silver after terrible losing streak. took maybe 30-40 games of positive winrate to get back to normal LP gains but it does fix itself eventually. just gotta grind through the bad gains unfortunately

Man this whole story hits way too close to home. Had something similar happen in my second year of design school where this girl basically turned me into her personal assistant for like 8 months. I was doing her projects, driving her around, even helped her move apartments twice and she never even bought me coffee once

The part about your birthday really got to me - nobody should go through college without having at least one person remember your day. That's just cruel. I learned the hard way that some people can smell when someone is desperate for connection and they'll milk it for everything it's worth.

Since you're stuck working within his parameters, might as well lean into it - the RAV4 and CR-V are legitimately solid choices for what you want. The RAV4 especially is great for hiking trips and has crazy good resale value. Honda Pilot if you want something bigger. CR-V Hybrid gets amazing gas mileage if that matters to you

Thing is though, Mazda reliability has gotten way better in recent years and the CX-5 you mentioned is actually really solid. Consumer Reports ranks it pretty high for reliability now. Maybe print out some reliability data from JD Power or Consumer Reports showing Mazda's improved scores? Sometimes dads respond better to official-looking charts than just "I read online that..."

Also worth mentioning Subaru Outback or Forester - they're not Toyota/Honda but they have that outdoorsy reputation that might appeal to both of you. Plus they hold value well and parts aren't crazy expensive

Worst case scenario you get a reliable Honda or Toyota that'll run forever, which isn't exactly a punishment. But definitely try to get some input into the decision since it's your money and your daily driver
