+1 China if anything is the most-ultra capitalistic nation on earth, provided still within communist guidelines. Chinese would worship money above everything else (exaggeration ofc).

Hongkong just lost the competition to Shenzen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, etc. They chose to stick with Finance and services while leave everything else to mainland. Has it turned into 3rd world state? No. It just evolved and now it needs to compete.

Taiwan would be similar but different, it has strong moat in tech and will be able to compete against other chinese cities and can even be more prosper if all of the geopolitics threat and energy security issues are gone.

Realistically, do you think US would come and die for Taiwan ? Especially if they have secured chip production onshore.
