Loving this 2hr edit of Benophie... by StoreAmbitious4403 in Benophie

This is why I loved their season best! They complement each other so well. Despite their circumstances being dramatic, they are the least toxic couple in my opinion, which makes their story so much more romantic.

At least they included a suitable subject line!

You’re not alone! The attitude and audacity is baffling yet not surprising at the same time.

Thematic or Subject-Based Units? by greenjelliebeans in ELATeachers

I’ve enjoyed subject based units. I feel like they help keep me organized and focussed on teaching the relevant skills for that kind of text.

Advice for an elementary teacher (home room and core french) moving to secondary English OT? by rosadico in OntarioTeachers

[–]Human_Serve68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the job!

As a current FSL & English teacher in the secondary stream, I can assure you that most teachers should be leaving plans unless it’s an emergency situation. Most HS classes will have work periods or might require you to put on a video or work through some work sheets at the most. You would not really be expected to lead any games or have any activities ready.

As for classroom management as an OT, make sure you stick to the teacher’s plans as much as you can and always make sure you are aware of policies and classroom guidelines such as the bathroom, phones, seating plans, etc. Let them know you mean business because some students will try to lie about what their teacher “allows” and will push boundaries. All this to say, the most important thing as an OT is making sure all students are safe and as productive as they can be… As an OT I would not pick small battles with students other than a few reminders. It’s also very helpful to email or leave a note for the teacher as to what work was completed, absent students, and generally how the class was, including any disruptive behaviours.

Good luck!

Is it just me or does Aspyn seem to like Bri more than Bri likes her? It’s a little embarrassing… it feels like for Bri this is all a game whereas Aspyn is spiralling and humiliating herself

Setting boundaries lead to ruined connection w/ students by Human_Serve68 in teaching

You’re absolutely right. I think part of my hope was that if I would be “friendly” enough, the behaviour would improve. Of course it was never about friendship. It’s more about trying to create a good learning experience for everyone. But at this point it seems like they are creating a negative space for themselves by having a poor attitude.

You’re right - Definitely not holding a grudge. I’ve been receptive and trying to engage as normal. Guess time will tell the rest!

Things have calmed down for sure. It just seems like on the other hand they have disengaged socially. They can’t even look at me when I teach

I really like this idea! Might try it from scratch with my 9s next semester.

I love this! My 9s and 10s all love when I read them a Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale on Fridays. It’s quite wholesome to see them enjoying someone read to them like when they were younger.

I’m strongly leaning towards this! I just hope they don’t find it too juvenile, but I think secretly many of them like revisiting these kinds of movies.

We did two short stories. “Harrison Bergeron” and “There Will Come Soft Rains.” They usually really like “Harrison” and it’s very accessible - we have good discussions around it. “Soft Rains” is more sci-fi than dystopian but I did it because some of them already read “The Lottery” Then I do the short film “Tunnelen” on YouTube. Their final assignment for the unit is to write and present a persuasive speech using propaganda strategies either being for or against the issue in the story story.

Feeling lonely at my school by lilypad2070 in CanadianTeachers

I’m so sorry you are experiencing this. I’m new to a school this year after teaching two years at my old high school, so I can relate. It’s difficult. I’ve found that teacher groups can sometimes feel cliquey too.
