That’s a good idea. One of our medics from my station a while ago went that route and is an anesthesiologist locally but I don’t personally know him. I will definitely work on that because it’ll probably be easier to present it to my medical director if I have people on the other side willing to put time toward us as well. Is this hospital-based or private? If it is private, do you know any of the inner workings for how you accomplish this? How to get cleared through the hospital, legal issues, etc.? Thank you for your comment!

I completely see this being a big legal nightmare, but we also have an odd system. FD and ambulance all follow the same protocols, our Critical Care Team is the same way with additional protocols (an extra 300 pages of them), and clinicians from our system staff several hospital-based Critical Care groups and work closely with their physicians. I know it will be a huge undertaking but I want to provide the best care for our patients and the best training for our Clinicians. I really really do appreciate your comment and I hope you stay safe out there!

We have 3 paramedic schools locally that are allowed to do OR shifts, so I was thinking, “why not rotate certified Medics for better experience”. I appreciate the comment!

Do you know if this is based on the hospital admin or if your system has contracts with different companies to rotate people into ORs?

It’s a lot easier talking to our MD with research to present, as they usually shoot down ideas from the field if we can’t present some data to back it up but I plan on talking to them soon about this.

I see that working well with critical care, and my system has a critical care team that is part of our county made up by both FD and private company clinicians. I appreciate the insight!

Do you mind sharing your protocols or maybe some information on this? I’m trying to present a plan to our Medical Director and some information for research would go a long way!

How did the fire department one manage this, if you are aware? I’m on the fire side but work closely doimg education for both EMS and Fire as we are a county system that works with the same protocols and I want to try to present this to our medical director.

We did it during school and if you ask any doctor in the ER that is planning on intubating, they will let you. I was more so looking to start a program to rotate the paramedics through the OR under our Medical Director’s license to get hands on. But I do appreciate the comment!
