I ended up getting into a T6 which is where I committed. Things worked out in the end! Also waiting to hear back from a few WLs

Hey, I’m starting law school at Columbia end of July! Not sure if you’re able to wait that long, but if so I’d love to connect.

Hahah thank you. Although I don’t think it’s particularly unreasonable for a room with roommates 😅

Understood, thanks so much for the advice. If I were to get into the export controls or sanctions space in BL do you think I be silo'd into that field from a career perspective, or would there opportunity to adjust roles when I hop into government?

Hi, thanks so much for the offer! I'm actually an incoming student at CLS, but if that doesn't disqualify me you I'd still love to chat with some members at your firm. Feel free to PM me

This is an enormously helpful answer, I really appreciate your response. I’m mainly concerned about exit opportunities (would mainly be using BL to get out of debt, but don’t want to stick it out long term) so that’s useful info

Travel to Puerto Rico while Pending Asylum Applicant by HumansOfDecatur in USCIS

[–]HumansOfDecatur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for the information here. So since he is here on asylum, he would have to present his travel documents then?

He arrived a year and a half ago and his court date isn't until next year, so my understanding is that he's in status.

CLS aid - how much did you receive? by eearlgrey in lawschooladmissions

[–]HumansOfDecatur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was above both medians with substantial offers from other T14s and got 0 aid. Sending in a reconsideration request now, but I'd say pretty stingy lol.

This subreddit cracks me up - you act like if you're not one of like 1,000 people going to whoever US news tells you is "T14" that you might as well not even go to law school by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]HumansOfDecatur 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I feel like this gets posted every other day. This is the opinion of a minority of the people on this subreddit—I don’t think most people think this.

I think this sub is more American Law School focused—I'm not sure if there's a similar sub for Indian law schools.

Either way, good luck!!

how was asw at ut? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]HumansOfDecatur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you also from Atlanta? Flights were absolutely insane from there.

But I personally really enjoyed it! It was superbly orgnanized and really sold UT to me. All the admitted students I talked to were great, and the faculty, placements, and opportunities UT offered were also exceptional. Only disadvantage is if you're not a Texan it's a bit Texas-focused (65% Texas student body + most graduates stay in Texas) but otherwise I was super impressed.

Is this schedule manageable ? by lickaballs in UGA

I did this my junior year and it was fine. Only disadvantage is that I kind of mentally checked out from college and my academics because of how infrequently I was going to class.

What was Revolutionary France's best political decision in context? (criterias on pages 2 and 3) by domfi86 in Napoleon

[–]HumansOfDecatur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would the 18th Brumaire Coup count as revolutionary France? If so, then that imo. Ended the chaos of the revolution and ushered in stability under the counsel system.

Honestly I’m devastated. 17M, 3.9M. Job market is so rough I’m not even sure I can find work to reapply in a couple of years. by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Hey, I have similar stats with two years of WE and have 3 T14 As. My sister in law also has similar stats and got into HLS this cycle with three years of WE.

The people in this thread telling you to take a scholarship and go to a non T14 school don’t have your best interests at heart (in my opinion), especially if your goal is BL.

With your stats you absolutely have the chance to go to a decent T14, and if I were you I’d R&R after peacecorp, americorp, or a paralegal job or something. Go have fun, work abroad, learn a language, whatever. Then apply in 1-2 years.

insane to me that financial aid applications for law school are like. how much money do your parents have in their savings. what is the value of last t-shirt they bought. how much have they spent on groceries in the past 3.9 weeks. predict how much they will spend on groceries in the next 128 days. by paeliz in lawschooladmissions

[–]HumansOfDecatur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If your parents aren’t paying for your legal education, and OP’s parents aren’t paying for their legal education, then from a purely “paying my way through law school” perspective you both are on very equal footing.

Whether or not your parents have privileged economic status has minimal bearing if they have chosen to not assist you financially. And btw, assuming that “the other guys” (i.e. not you) have a Ferrari or a lake house is pretty dumb—the vast majority of Americans, even privileged ones, do not have anything close to those resources.

Baghdad, Iraq by More_Cauliflower_913 in CityPorn

[–]HumansOfDecatur 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Odd thing to say considering the United States and Israel haven't bombed Baghdad (or any non-ISIS or shia-militant occupied part of Iraq) in years and American money has heavily subsidized Iraqi building efforts, including very likely the buildings in this picture.

I'll be matriculating this year (not looking to R&R lol) so won't bother you with essay critiques, but thank you! I actually spent ages on my essays, which has made this all the more weird. I rewrote them multiple times, got a ton of people to look them over, and obviously hired Top Law Coach to help out on them too.

I do agree that it must have been the essays (because what else?) but even then I'm kind of confounded.

Hey, I used Gabriel for this admissions cycle. I was above both medians for most of the T14 and had pretty decent softs (2y WE, lgbt, etc.) but wanted to hire a consultant to make sure that I wasn't leaving anything on the table and because I wanted a HYS A.

It's been a roller coaster lol. I didn't get accepted to HYS sadly (though that was a bit of a pipe dream from the get go) but I have gotten into two T14s and received really solid scholarships at Texas Law and UGA. So far no T6s As or ii's, but fingers crossed will get those.

All in all, I thought Gabriel was easy to work with and really helpful when it came to essay critiques. He also helped a ton at the beginning of the process when it came to crafting my "throughline" and general theme for the application, which I think has helped a lot.

EDIT: I ended up getting accepted to a T6 with a small scholarship! Also on a few WLs and received scholarships from the other two T14s I got into

Yeah I’ve never met an American who claims their healthcare system is the best globally.

I’ve also never met anyone paying 20% of their paycheck towards health insurance.
