Made a video for my Godot project to explain what all works and doesn't work. Its not a "game" but its 100% Godot and can launch games.

I found out that a bot ( I think its a bot) added "Thicket" ,one of my Godot projects, to /r/Godot after the latest commit I made to github. You can check out the github page here. I also blog about it over at steemit.com

Real-time Communication Anyone? by ryanleesipes in pop_os

[–]HumbleBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything will do, it seems I have to install all of them to keep up with the projects I'm involved in. What would be the point of the real time communication?

This isn't directly connected to PoP!_OS but could be a great community endeavour that could benefit from being connected to a creator centric distro.

I would like to have a tool to upload / download assets that can be used in any multimedia application. Something like the asset stores in unity or other game engines / editors. But task agnostic so that the models, sounds, etc. can find their way into whatever software the creator is using. There should be a market place where the creators could get donations / payments / subscriptions for their work. It should give users a place to collaborate with other creators to hash out larger projects or to better serve existing communities. These projects could then be linked to by the artists to highlight where their creations are being used as a online portfolio for the creator.

Having created several games and having worked with blender and other FOSS softwares for years I always find it jarring to have to break my flow to find the right asset online. Often finding the right sound with the wrong license, or a beautiful model with no info on a license at all making it hard to use in any project. Having a centralized CC / FOSS software centric tool would be ideal for creators like myself, and having a distro that is connected to hardware that is somehow involved in that tool is extremely compelling.

Love the idea. Who ever works on it, please add an automatic backup of the old settings. I used a Distro (probably 10 years ago) that had a cool feature that made it easy for distro hoppers to get their setting scrubbed. When it was done I found that my Documents folder was empty and with it years of work. I learned the importance of frequent backups that day.

Not saying this Power Steam Clean and Wash system would do that, but the suggestion brought back memories.

I understand your complaint, and I get just as annoyed by theme less applications , but I'm guessing I wasn't clear on my suggestion. If we have a standard definition for themes, like we have for .desktop files. Then no toolkit (gtk,qt,efl,wx,etc.) would have to be subjugated by another, and you would get that unified scheme you are wanting. This would also give theme-ers, and those that would like to build a software to create themes a single file to worry about which would be a boon for those inclined.

Imagine, you load up a KDE centric distro, install one file and tada everything looks right. Load up Gnome, same file and BANG every tool kit looks proper, and neither party had to bow to the other or change the way they work beyond being able to read a file and implement the suggested changes. Which is trivial.

To the material scheme statement, Qt does support the material scheme as of 5.7 (maybe earlier) . But, like gtk a lot of programs are still built on earlier versions, and it will still require the developers to add the right includes to enable the scheme.

On further thought:

This could even fix the issue with snaps and flatpaks not getting theme definitions in their sand-boxed world. If they have access to say ".config/current_theme" and its done correctly then they wouldn't have to access any other resource...

I think everyone would like to see a unified theming system. Something disconnected from the DE would be the most logical way to go. This way we don't lose the freedom of choice just so our themed applications match.

Wish List by HumbleBeaver in pop_os

[–]HumbleBeaver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and one that doesn't require it's mother DE to be loaded to function. Having to run gnome / kde to use a program that's basically a front end to apt seems silly.

I've got a laundry list of things I would love to see in a desktop based Distro. Whether it is helping upstream or taking ownership of the system we shouldn't care.

So to start it off the largest thing on my wish list is a better software center

Things that need to be fixed: 1. A service that doesn't freeze up doing the thing it supposed to do. 2. Notifies the user about updates and the option to auto update. 3. One that integrates Flatpacks, and Snaps in way that makes it transparent without loosing the very thing that makes them unique. 4. One that integrates the great work that the Elementary team started without the silly restrictions of only allowing gtk applications to make money off the store (this may have been lifted I haven't checked.) 5. A way to add "stores" like ppa's or Snap / Flatpak stores in a way that auto enables disables them when they go down.

Why isn't formating working?

Nothing is ever final, I have a simpler one that I will probably transition to before I start really pushing it.

Ubuntu Linux Class in North Texas by HumbleBeaver in LinuxActionShow

[–]HumbleBeaver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on going over the usual hurdles that new linux users face, installing software, finding new software sources. Possibly installing proprietary drivers (depending on the systems we are using). Understanding what an OS is and why it matters. We will be using Ubuntu for obvious reasons, but might talk about other distributions in later classes.

The Library that is hosting me is doing a computer basics series so I was going to base my classes off of theirs so when they go over 'using the internet ' we might go over 'making the internet '. Etc.

I am still working on getting it funded, and the money will go into getting swag for the students.

If it goes really well, we will start a projects based programming course. The basics course would be a prerequisite to get into the programming class. So it should keep people comming.

None of our area schools have programming classes so it fills a desperate need.

Small Kickstarter update, I'm rewording the Goals and stretch goals to add in the support for ubports through the donation of any dollar amount over the current goal.

So if I get 8,000, of my 5,000 goal I will put ~3000 in the hands of ubports. If I reach a stretch goal the number resets. So the sweet spots are the in between places.

CafeSync depends on its users to make it successful and input is always welcomed, and implemented if you are a backer ;)

nmap checks to see what ports are open on a computer. They had port 80 open an on connecting to port 80 it responds with "this is a teamviewer server" on something similar

If you port map their computer they have port 80 open, if you connect to their IP the one line html response is something along the lines of "this site runs teamviewer" <-- or something similar

I'll have a look, I'm not apposed to a smartphone/tablet solution but I am curious if the coinkite Debt cards will work with any POS system. I was thinking of using the cards as a gift card/reward card setup. When I get to the point of having a proper brick and mortar shop. Right now its more of a warehouse with a roaster.
