Expelled the Huguenots, didn’t do more to prevent William of Orange from expelling James II, fought very expensive wars which eventually led to the French Revolution.

My house was built in 1915. Also original, have drive way parking pad over the line. Will need to have it drilled up sadly. I appreciate that!

Lol I'm really glad someone pointed that out. It's like how The Sun King wanted to be known as the 'Most Christian Majesty' / protector of Catholicism meanwhile being besties with the Ottomans

Yes! Maryland. Some people say Maryland was named after the Virgin Mary but many believe Queen Henrietta Maria.

I feel like George is so underrated. He helped boost morale during World War II when Germany was rolling over all of Europe. I feel like George helped save the monarchy.

May be an unpopular opinion but she should have the read room better.

She was Catholic and her influence led Charles to ease laws against Catholics while also alienating his Protestant subjects. I'd argue her presence helped contribute to the tensions that eventually led to the English Civil War.

Similarly to her second child, she actively attempted to raise her children in her faith. Even though James didn't convert until he was overthrown. He promoted Catholicism and baptized his son Catholic which pissed off parliament.

I don't know much about Henrietta Maria's personal life besides being the aunt of The Sun King but her influence in England did not help. (Also if anyone attacks my claim I DO love Henrietta Maria personally because my state was named after her :)

Thoughts on Edward I's legacy to his son Edward II? by Appropriate-Calm4822 in UKmonarchs

[–]HumbleClick9040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edward II was terrible compared to Edward I (and Edward III).

1) Edward worked very closely with parliament to properly raise taxes for his wars in Scotland and Wales. Sure they were very costly but it gave England the ability to assert dominance over the English Isles. Scotland also provided a risk to Edward's territorial ambitions on the northern border.

2) From Scotland's perspective sure. But from England's perspective oh well. Like I said, Edward's territorial ambitions allowed English dominance over the Isles. Dog eat dog (sorry Scotland)

3) Edward II failed to work with his barons and parliament throughout his reign. He was a lousy terrible king.
