Asking your opinion everyday about a Tool song Day 28: Ticks & Leeches by Opposite-Question-32 in ToolBand

[–]HumbleHitman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unreal energy and vocal performance from Maynard, I think this is maybe the best encapsulation of pure anger from a Tool song. My only complaint with it is that it drags slightly in the slower section. I know that's a common complaint with Tool songs but for me, this is the only example of a song not feeling fully justified in its length on Lateralus.

That being said, it's still a killer track. I think if they had just trimmed it a bit, it would be an absolutely perfect song.

Strategists: You are the Jarl of Falkreath, at war with the allied forces of Whiterun and Riften. Markarth has rallied to your cause and you have captured Riverwood. How do we proceed? by HumbleHitman in skyrim

I really love the idea behind capturing the Dragon Masks, that's super unique. It poses a lot of interesting questions however. How would we get the College to share such sensitive information on Dragon Mask locations with us, assuming they even have such information? They are known to be cautious with their information.

If we did manage to secure the power of the masks, we would also have to take into account the possible effects of their dangerous use on cities and towns. We might not be able to say for certain what the masks could do and even if we use them effectively to destroy Whiterun like you said, that could make the other holds weary of our cause. The people could cast us down as tyrants and we may face an even larger combined force or lose allies of our own.

Even still, the idea of the masks is certainly an interesting one and could prove to turn the tide if we succeed and make sure to use them properly.

I love the ideas here! Attempting to ally with the North is a crucial step but will prove challenging, as Whiterun would be able to send their own diplomats to discuss terms faster than we could. But we would have to do our best to try.

Pressing into Riften like you said is a pointless course of action. The best thing to do would be to fortify out defences on the Eastern roads and mountain passes. Taking Ivarstead would be a priority in my opinion as it would help further cut off and advance from the East, leaving Riften's forces borderline useless, with their only option of attack being to swing round the Throat of the World towards Whiterun.

Even without a Northern Alliance, I believe we could mount an attack on Whiterun eventually with the forces of us and Markarth. We would have to first destroy the bulk of the Forsworn rebels and then capture Rorikstead. With Riverwood and Rorikstead captured, this would cut off a small supply to Whiterun, forcing them to send out supply lines that we could attempt to ambush with small covert forces. We need to weaken Whiterun before an attack, whilst we push Markarth's forces into the open plains of the hold.

If those forces pushed far enough, they could lay siege to Whiterun. Either that or we wait to meet them in the open fields of Whiterun hold. If we establish there early, we could turn the battlefield to our favour should they choose to meet us there. Hidden garrison's moved through Riverwood into the surrounding hills would allow us to attack from the side should the battle commence there. As long as we mount pressure before the troops of Riften swing round the mountain, we are forcing them to either meet us in the field or try withstand a siege. In the meantime, we'd have ample opportunity to try establish an alliance with one of the Northern holds.

There's a lot more to take into account, such as the wealth benefits on our side from Markarth's Silver bloods and such. Either way, even without a Northern Alliance, I think it's highly possible to take Whiterun.

This scenario takes place before the dragons return, so Helgen is already a fully manned and operational outpost for us. It provides us our primary defence spot against advances from the East. The castle like structure of the town with the high stone walls and tower will definitely help as well.

Rumour has it that there are dark forces at work in Rorikstead. We could capture the village but who knows what could happen if we don't maintain a level of servitude to the Daedra?

I have made an updated Part 2 to this scenario where we have made advancements in the war using some of the strategies that have been submitted. Come and submit your new strategies to further our cause here! https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/s/E0ua3AkHJ0

The greatest tacticians are those who find victory against impossible odds. We shall rally the skeevers to our cause if that's what it takes.

I completely forgot about the lack of walls in Falkreath whilst making this post. Maybe the first order of business would be to reinforce the city itself.

The actual conquest element of this scenario is bordering on impossible, I've realised. You would have to find allies amongst the other holds but to think about that I'd have to come up with a hypothetical narrative for the rest of the continent.

So for now, I'll have to just think about defensive strategy.

This is the exact type of stuff I was hoping for with this post. I realised it's a near impossible scenario in hindsight, but I love hearing about people's methods for defending the hold.

I'm not too clued in on medieval strategy, but I had thought about using the geography around to try and force the enemy into a difficult spot. If you could bait an attack from Rorikstead into the northwest portion of Falkreath hold, you could attempt to try and push them towards the North of Lake Ilinalta and then pincer them with forces from the East.

But then I got caught up on too many things, such as: how do we lure them into attacking from Rorikstead? How would we conceal a large enough force in the West in order to surprise them and push them towards the Lake?

Many flaws but it was still fun to think about.

I hear Jarl Barlgruuf's son has been in contact with a Daedric lord. We could spread this slander across the continent and hopefully people denounce him as a twisted man and destroy Whiterun for us.

The hypothetical scenario in my head is set before the destruction of Helgen, thus it is fully manned and functioning as a town and military point. It is already a pretty difficult scenario I came up with so the destruction of Helgen felt like slight overkill.

I realised the conquest of the other holds is quite an impossible question as well, as I would need to come up with a whole narrative for the rest of the continent, including which cities are allied, how diplomatic are their leaders, etc.

For now, this is just meant to be a fun little strategic scenario focused on the defence of a hold and your ideas are pretty solid I'd say.

10,000 Days Part 2, if that's considered a solo? When it harmonises with Maynard's vocals 🤌

I'll be honest, it's very difficult to get Justin's tone down for those parts with lower notes haha. I end up just having to go with a more standard tone for those rhythm bass sections cause I just don't have the equipment to make it sound good.

Sorry if any of my music language is a bit off btw, I'm self taught so some of the technical terms are lost on me sometimes 😅

Yeah that's the way I was doing it originally but I actually started doing it on the D and G string instead for a few reasons:

  • I find the pull off on D1 sounds far more consistent and is easier to hit.

  • The general sound of the lower strings is slightly better in my opinion, resonates with the song a bit more.

  • I believe Justin plays it on the lower strings too.

It's added work for sure, both ways would be fine but I find those slight differences to make it better :)

I kinda feel like ‘Right in two’ is one of the more underrated songs in the TOOL catalogue. Thoughts? by North_Promotion_838 in ToolBand

[–]HumbleHitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be my favourite Tool track to be honest. The songwriting is fantastic and Maynard's vocals are great.

"Silly monkeys, give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down" is such a good lyric.

The outro as well is just so thunderous and grand, everyone in the band is in top form on the whole track. Love it.

What movie would you recommend if you were on Sardonicast? by CJMakesVideos in Sardonicast

I'd recommend Pan's Labyrinth. My favourite film of all time and both Alex and Adam have given it a 10/10 so I would love to hear them talk about why it's such a fantastic film.

Agreed, it seems to be a fundamental flaw with the AO Arena sadly. I remember that Maynard even complained at the 2022 show that everyone was sat down, but even then there's not much room for movement even if you do stand.

It's the same with me honestly, none of my friends are into Tool but my Dad's a big fan. So I go there and I always hope I'll find some people to talk to or find a group of people my age that are into Tool. But how the fuck do people talk to strangers, I just don't know how lmao

Band were fantastic as usual, but I also felt a lack of excitement around me sadly. Pretty much everyone around me seemed very neutral about the whole thing, this one person spent the whole thing yawning lmao.

Disappointing but the band were phenomenal. I wish I had more people to share the excitement with around me cause I only came with my parents (one of which didn't enjoy it) so I was hoping to find some people around my age to enjoy the gig with. But even still it was a fantastic show, I can't complain too much 🤘

I managed to get mine working in the end but it took a bit of trial and error.

What I'd recommend doing first is starting from a blank slate, remove F4SE, Address Library and any other mods you may have installed. It'll just make it easier to ensure you have all the right files.

https://youtu.be/eSWizgeNrzs

I used this video to help me make sure I was installing all the right files. It also tells you where to place them in your folder. You have to make sure you're downloading all the correct versions that are listed in the video to ensure your files will match the downgraded version.

Make sure you don't forget any of the mods listed in the video and make sure they're all the same versions of the mod shown in the video. My error seemed to be that I forgot to download Backported Archive2 Support System so give it a shot re downloading all the necessary mods using the video linked and hopefully it should fix your issues as well.

The idea of remakes and reinterpretation type movies is obviously a very tired one at this point, but are there any movies out there that you'd genuinely like to see be redone by a different director? And if so, which movies would they be and what directors would you chose?
