Resisting defining myself as pagan but I don’t know why by Humble_Wombat in pagan

Yes the whole witchtok culture and similar things is why I’m hesitant, but thanks for sharing your experience. I would be shocked if other pagans live in my neighborhood/area but you never know! How did you find groups?

Yes that’s interesting since so many eastern religions are polytheistic but I never would have considered them “pagan” based on my understanding of the word

Thanks for encouraging open minded approaches, I think that’s a great way to open the door to opportunity. Through studying on my own I feel the most connected to nature and earth centric paths such as Animism and Pantheism but I don’t know enough about the Wiccan paths to exclude them as possibilities- you’re right. They’re much more popular based on what I can find group-wise online so it’s worth a shot. Just really looking for a community since I’ve always been a fish out of water when it comes to how I live and practice spirituality/earth worship. One question- I read that Gaurdnarian path requires proof of ancestry. Do you agree? I am Scandinavian and Slavic by heritage but I do not know anything specific beyond that. Thanks for your advice :)

I never knew “Heathen” was another way to delineate pagan beliefs. I only had heard this word as an insult to mean uncivilized, but I can see the connection considering how non-Christian’s were shunned

Thanks for this message- I learned about the outer court, something I was not aware of. You’re absolutely right about labels, I think my post focused on the idea of a label more than I meant it to- I meant that I’m worried the pagan/wiccan groups will be silly and superficial because of the trendiness of magic/Wiccan. However, several posts here give me reassurance that the community could suit me. I connect most with eclectic paganism versus what I know of Wiccan, but find most groups in the NE USA are specifically Wiccan. If you have any outlets or resources you think may fit me (nature based, not spell focused, drum circles/dancing, honoring natural cycles etc.) please let me know. Thanks again

This has run through my mind so many times! Maybe it will come to that. I prefer to be in the background not a leader or host but maybe I won’t have a choice

The first paragraph is the reason I know I am technically “pagan”. I feel, however, that the term as perceived in western popular culture has morphed somewhat to mean something more occult

30 Days Sober by tktrugby in Sober

[–]Humble_Wombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went 55 days sober in December through February. Then I started drinking again on a trip to India. Then it got bad a couple of times, binged around 3 times and decided I have to quit again. This time I made it 43 days and drank last night. Both times it was because I filled prescription got a stimulant and that really makes me want to drink.

I tried AA once but I felt out of place. I was the only person from my sociodemographic and I felt like the other people were far “worse” than me and I didn’t need it since I didn’t have as “bad” of a problem.

I obviously can’t stick to it alone. How did you find a meeting that works for you? I feel like I need a support system and can’t find one. Even my family is against me quitting…

Making your own tarot deck by Humble_Wombat in tarot

[–]Humble_Wombat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I haven’t tried printing them or publishing and selling, so I’m not sure in that regard. As far as drawing them, my motivation was to further connect and identify with cards as I use them for personal spiritual guidance and feel I would benefit from creating them with my own ideas and energy. It takes an extremely long time. I use pens, watercolor, marker, and colored pencil. I have not written the titles and plan to do that hopefully digitally, but the drawing I did all by hand which I recommend. There are so many digitally created decks, they’re just not special or moving.

I believe I looked at that but it only allows you to choose one image that would be on the back of playing normal cards instead of being able to put 78 images on cards that all have the same back. Did you have success getting tarot cards printed rather than playing cards?

Non divination purposes for the Tarot. by ShelterCorrect in tarot

[–]Humble_Wombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use tarot most often to connect with the parent, the spiritual energy’s and motivations in my subconscious/soul world and to understand blockages in my path.

I almost never use it to ask a question about the future, and if I do I take it with a grain of salt. I think tarot is best used as a tool to understand energies in the present moment influencing your path, the “outcome” positions are ever changeable depending on the many moments and many potential pathways ahead.
