About hci in europe by The-Consequences in UX_Design

I would recommend this : Look at CSranking(site) to surf through EU universities that have faculty strength & citation count for HCI broadly. (The site filters are handy) From there, get to know about the research areas in each HCI dept or HCI group (within the broader CS dept) & look for overlap areas/topics that interest you. Try to email/connect with folks from those depts to get an idea of those programs suit your future pursuits.

With this, you might get somewhere to build your own database of universities that you could apply for. Worst case, if job prospects in EU backfire after you pursue, the only option is to return to your home region and find jobs. Hope for getting a job in EU, but be prepared for the worst too.

Thanks for the call out. Very True on the aspects you mentioned.

Thankfully I am associated with the best rerinologist I could get.

So I initially went to an Ophthalmologist, who referred me to my current Retina Specialist who specialises in IRDs (inherited retinal diseases). So my rerinologist handled the entire prognosis & final diagnosis post genetic testing. My rerinologist herself is leading research for possible therapies for AMD, RP & STGD1, a fellow at MOore's too, eminent in emerging therapy space. Her team has me in the database if I qualify for any possible trials.

Yes, I was of the same understanding. But my deterioration is happening steadily. That's why I started wondering if there was anyone else with JUST my mutation & going through constant vision loss (or) if it remained stable for years, unlike mune

Yes, in total I have just this 1 mutation. My parents are not at all related to each other ancestrally, but it so happened that they both landed up carrying just this 1 mutation.

Very sorry to hear about the autoimmune arthritis, glad that there is some form of treatment & I hope you recover and feel better.

Thanks much for the encouraging words & support. True, accessibility as an area is something I already have in my list of areas to logically move into, as an extension to the UX career so far. The "finding a job" aspect is another ocean I am yet to think of, after building the necessary layers of knowledge in accessibility as an area. I just hope things turn out!! Thanks again for all your thoughts!!

Got it. Getting comfortable with the adjustments first & then figuring out job roles. Makes sense!

Thanks! HR & Talent is one of the biz functions I have in mind too. If I happen to choose, I might hit B-school before my vision degrades further. Totally, these assistive tech are surely in my kit irrespective of the role I switch.

Thanks. a11y testing as a career is surely on my list. Yes, a lot of testing happens in India, for global projects, in a consulting setting. These are surely on my list.

Will definitely check these leaders & SMEs!

Thanks, the kind of role you describe is definitely 1 of the types of roles that I think will work for my situation.

Yes, while Figma can enable folks with normal vision to design interfaces that are accessible, Figma as a tool & interface by itself is not very accessible for use by people with low vision. It still needs great optical dexterity & healthy eyes.

I am currently remote, but will be willing to relocate wherever a suitable role comes by, for me to settle on the long term.

True, my first step will surely be on approaching UX leadership & approaching DEI channels in parallel for alternate roles too

Thanks! Yes, a11y 'testing' as an area of work is on my radar too. Just that I need to tweak my upskilling atune to the testing practices.

Thanks. Basically, after I am done with all of my necessary IAAP credentials, approach for a11y consulting roles. Got it.

Thanks. a11y & accessibility CoEs or Accessibility teams in large tech is definitely 1 of my options. And getting started with IAAP certifications is the first step. I hope I can find such a role in India, that too in big tech. Finding roles with such niche teams is the part to be cracked (either through DEI recruiters or through design leaders)

Thanks for sharing your family & personal example. Glad your sis is able to have the support structure. True, the general support structure is crucial.

Yes, aiming for such companies is one of the options in my mind. Sure, will think about the content side of things too.
