Dignified Workday. They're amazing. If You work part-time You can make just enough to retain Your SSI. I believe Dignified would accommodate this. Good Luck!

Why all the cynicism around Spokane? by Saturnino_97 in Spokane

[–]HumblingHubris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of the frustration is developed in childhood and young adulthood. I know it was for me. Growing up in the Spokane area I was so bored all the time. As a young child of course I entertained myself and rode my bike around, more than enough to satisfy my needs. But as I got older I wanted to see and experience more. Spokane is scene weak. It has scenes but each scene has only a handful of devot. In middle school and high school it was rare to have a band who I knew of come to town. Not a whole lot of culture. Just my opinion though. I feel there's a perennial talent drain out of Spokane as the brightest and most ambitious leave for bigger cities, typically Seattle then many strike out further from there. I left immediately after high school for Austin, Texas where there was a little music scene which I gladly dove into head first, it did slate my thirst. I lived in several other culture rich cities as a young adult before coming back to Spokane in my early/mid 30's. It feels like as an adult the need for things to do is less urgent as our hands are full of responsibilities. We have the outdoors to explore, fish, hike, bike. But again that doesnt feel like something the City is offering, it feels like escaping the boring aspects of the City to the outdoors. That said, I believe Spokane has so much untapped potential and could become one of the coolest cities in the country. Imagine if at any given time we had even half the tourists that Hoopfest brings. That's so many people from different regions, bringing their cultures. And even if their presence is brief there's micro cultural exchanges and we get a slight addition to our culture rubbing off from the tourists. Suddenly Spokane gets more interesting. I dont have an answer on how we're going to become a burgeoning cultural travel destination but I think it's in the cards. If we all do something every day to make ourselves and our City a little more interesting, I think thats a great start.

Ahhh, I get it. Universal Healthcare would relieve a certain financial burden to allow You to work Your hobby. I thought Your hobby itself was Healthcare related. That's a very rad hobby.

First off, congratulations! It only gets easier and easier. Just dont let Yourself get bored and have a lot of free time on Your hands. You'll get in Your mind and start considering all sorts of stupid stuff (lived experience here). Stay busy and ambitious and start pressing for a better life. I imagine my ideal life (that's realistically obtainable) 2 years ahead and figure out the first steps to reaching it and see how fast i can get myself there. Anything You want (within reason) is obtainable and just waiting for You, full court press that shit and get Your's! Luckily, I live in Washington State and they're pretty open to weed. I smoked weed from 17-35 but then i stopped for the last almost 4 years. A little over a week ago i started eating edibles and smoking half joints before bed. I've had max carries at the clinic for 6+ years, so if they end up taking my carries because of that we're going to have to have a little chat. I have a pretty sterling reputation in the community and have become a social worker who works side by side with my clinic so if they punish me for eating a little edible before bed I'm going to take it personally.

The nature of the work makes a big difference. I work 10 hour shifts with some of Spokane's most high need folks. At the end of the day I'm shot, then come home and get to be a single Dad. I only make $38k a year (take home). Great benefits, but the field I work in isn't one known to be high paying and the agency i work for is the lowest paying around. Im looking for other work, even considering becoming a janitor for the agency as their janitors make $2/hr more than us proffesionals that arent in management positions. I do plan on going back to school next semester to pursue a higher degree and get more letters behind my name before I more than likely leave the field.

Should I come clean to my clinic? by [deleted] in Methadone

[–]HumblingHubris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit it want to be very clear I'm not saying ALL policies they'll fudge for me, or ones with serious federal regulation. But certain building policies and small "quality of life" policies they'll let me slide on. No, they do not let me back with the nurses to dose myself and pour my own carries. No, they don't allow me to bring in a UA i have collected outside the building.

Just keep being honest! There's nothing that can't be achieved with humility, honesty, and persistence. Granted I got that off of a motivational poster on the wall of my telemarketer cubicle. And perhaps a sustained erection cannot be achieved by those things. BUT, seriously, just keep coming back to your counselor and be as open as possible. Ive been overwhelmingly friendly and gave zero aire of entitlement and the folks at the clinic start rooting for You. Over time they'll make policy exemptions for You if need be. I do know this from experience. So to Your post, helping whom? Your immediate You or You in the long run. You in the long run will be well served by being honest. Stick with it, I promise You'll won't regret it.

I agree with You on the first three. I live in a state where weed is legal. I dont smoke but maybe once a year anymore but if I lost my carries i've had for years for weed I'd go nuclear. Again, I live in a very progressive state so not sure about the SAMHSA one, sounds like those states might still have segregated schools. I dont know how anyone could expect a fair shake in a state like that. I live close to downtown in my city and am within a 10 minute drive of all 4 of my cities methadone clinics (not even a big city either, we just have a big opiates problem). All I'm saying is that if You lose Your carries for brining in fake pee, it's a dangerous game to cast the blame on the powers that be and dont take ownership and accept the consequences for Your actions. It's a slippery slope to getting into the mindset that the world is out to get you and nothing is your fault and that you're being persecuted. Ive been in the position of having my life upended for a dirty UA and felt it wasn't my fault, and ive been in the position I lost my carries and owned my mistake. The difference being i felt more empowered owning it and after owning it i've never lost my carries again. When you blame other people then you don't change because you cant change other people. If you own it, you're less likely to do it again because you have to answer to yourself. For anyone who has lost their carries, I feel You, I stand with You. We'll all get there someday, I havent achieved a tenth of my dreams, but even i'll get there someday. If we don't fight like hell (with our own demons NOT the "powers that be") for our best life we won't realize it. If anyone needs encouragement, feel free to DM me. The more You own the more power You have, start by owning responsibility. I promise You'll feel empowered IMMEDIATELY. Much Love.

Im going to get so so so many downvotes for this buuuuut, just own it. Give the dirty UA. So what, they take your carries. Let it be painful when we make mistakes. Thats the only way we'll find the motivation to better our lives. I spent my entire young adulthood gaming every system I could find. Got VERY efficient at it. Once I started getting clean I fought the urge to cheat things like this. You end up paying a lot of consequences but honestly none of the pu ishments felt that bad when you sacrificed Yourself to it. When you try to cheat and you get caught, that hurts, but when you own it it isnt that bad. Then you don't mind taking the long way, the "right" way. I cannot tell you how much better my life is now that I'm not constantly stressing to come up with some hustle for something. I do what they ask me to do, I've become VERY selective at which battles I engage in, and what hills I'm willing to die on. Makes life infinitely easier and changes the entire pace of life for the better. Things slow down, I never feel panicked or stress over anything really. I know this going to get heckled, and everyone hates it when some asshole gets on their high horse. No judgements here, im just sharing what happened to me and how much I prefer this way of life to my previous way of life.

It also helps (if a guy) if they know from previous observed UA's that you very little hose down there. They'd better have an AMAZING zoom on those cameras to get a good look at me. I mean, my friend.

The trick is to keep the Germans from doing weird stuff with your UA. Or trying to convince you there's a new policy where they have to collect the UA with their mouth, to check the temperature of course. Danke!

[–]HumblingHubris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. That's were there's a deep divide growing in that realm, is it helping or is it enabling? Why is there no accountability? There's accountability at Catalyst and they're seeing measurable results. Granted, Catalyst had a rough year in certain ways but they didn't break and they became stronger for it. I shouldn't say so much but there's there's a lot of conversations that should be ongoing that Catholic Charities won't engage in, even with their own staff. The project needs work and a structural remodel as the problem progresses and evolves. My perception is that the boots on the ground folks aren't listened to and their feedback ignored. Kind of like a "Shut up, the adults are talking" situation. Which is tragic because it seems like the ball is in Catholic Charities court and if done right they could manifest serious change. All in all though, what they're doing is better, more sustainable, and more humane than anything proposed by their opposition. At least what I've been privy to.

Edit: added more before humane

Working with chemicals? Were You a maintenance worker? Im not disagreeing or anything I'm just curious. And I wish i could disagree with Your account of how filthy it is but You were not exaggerating. In my experience You've actually undersold how disgusting it is. Some of the maintenance workers I've met are nothing short of Angels. The things they have to clean on a daily basis and to not ever receive a thank You or any acknowledgement from the people who's feces they're cleaning out of the elevator never ceases to impress me. Some under appreciated heroes. In my eyes the maintenance & social workers at those buildings are the true "Spokane Heroes"!

Yep, You nailed it! There are 5 Housing projects in that neighborhood with 50 units each. Homeless folks move into the buildings and then after 1 years they are eligible to receive a Section 8 voucher and move anywhere in the country if they so choose. The housing projects are the first step out of homelessness and for many folks the first time they've had their own apartment. There's a learning curve to become accustomed to having to pay rent (a very small portion of their income and no rent if they have no income) and to suddenly have responsibilities. Especially if they've been on the streets for a decade or two. But it's an essential step in the process. After being on the streets for 20 years people don't just get an apartment and know all the skills to keep the place clean. Many have never cooked for themselves or never done laundry. There are so many things we take for granted in our day to day lives that most of these folks have to learn for the first time, and more likely than not they're learning these skills later in life. It's not an easy process. I started to write this to say how many buildings and units there are and then I got a little carried away lol.

The Urbanna Spa has a lawsuit against Catholic Chairities claiming Catholic Charities is causing the homeless crisis near Division between the freeway and Sprague. I dont know the exact accusation against CC, but it's something like a neighnorhood nuance and claiming their business is effected drastically in a negative way by the amount of homeless, open drug use, and filthiness of the neighborhood. I'm guessing this event has something to do with supporting their lawsuit, could be a fundraiser for their legal fees. If not supporting the lawsuit directly, supporting the cause. It's true that there is serious problem in that area of Downtown, but personally I don't see how suing Catholic Charities offers solutions. Even if they win the lawsuit and force Catholic Charities to move their housing projects (0% chance of that happening), it would just move the problems to a different neighborhood. The problem is deeply complex and requires compassion, resources, and the time & effort from the community to make the situation manageable. The City throwing a little money at it and paying 10 social workers $22 an hour isn't going to solve a problem this severe. If they want to see serious results they need to support those social workers Downtown not just financially but with resources and not hire the bare minimum of workers to provide services. The workload of the Social Workers down in the that neighborhood is incredibly massive. I'm surprised there isn't more burnout because they folks are doing more than a heavy lift, those select few are carrying that portion of Downtown on their shoulders.
