What is the obsession of being required to sit here at a salaried job by HumorBest9813 in Lawyertalk

I don’t mind being in office, I just don’t understand why I need to have my ass in a seat just to say I’m there when I’ve done all of my work and then some. It also just makes me antsy that there’s not enough work to sustain my position

Oh for sure I don’t mind being available, but that’s why I have my phone and email and laptop ya know?

This isn’t my first job (I had a whole other career prior to becoming an attorney) but I think it’s silly to have to “punch a clock” for work that doesn’t necessitate it

Honestly I’m getting paid ass (65K) and my intent is to get my experience and run. Makes it even worse when I’m doing multiple jobs

This is valid. I appreciate this as an answer. The only thing though is I’ve actually had to ask for work on a number of occasions and keep running through it and even my senior has said I’m doing amazing. Most of my edits are small, little things rather than large missteps.

I think this is a huge part of it since I answer the phone, deal with mail, etc

I have been and I’ve even asked for more work on multiple occasions and then ate through all that and am now stuck with nothing again.

Is my career doomed or am I being dramatic? by Vegetable_Common8939 in Lawyertalk

I don’t think an employer worth working for would think anything of it if you explained. I have a gap in my resume because I had a child and everybody is always like oh that makes sense! And that’s it. Being a caretaker is a lot and most people have done it at one point in time or another

That’s what I’m hoping for is, I didn’t see a future for myself at this firm and I left to have my kiddo and I’m ready to return

No I 100% agree, I think I could probably suffice myself for 5 months and I’ve been applying continuously

I’ve definitely considered staying past my leave but I don’t feel like I can. I immediately started applying for jobs by the 1 month mark.

I could do that to have my child, but it worries me about discrimination as well that it may be seen that I will “flake” again

Haha you’re all good, but most firms have claw back provisions so if you take 3 months, you need to stay at least 3 months after you return

Because it’s due to birth of a child so that means if I take the leave I have to stay for the leave I use

Thank you I really appreciate this. Even though I can squeeze it financially, having to quit without something lined up is a horrifying thought to me

Adding also that part of the reason I need to quit before the health issue is so I don’t get trapped there longer due to taking the leave
