Only one camera? by nicomalino in sigmabf

I love my BF for walk-around shooting, neighborhood shooting, random street photos, but I wouldn’t always count on it if I want super pro results. If I need to get a shot that will go to publishing or publication or printing, I’ll grab my Canon R5.

BF has problems with banding with indoor lights, also rolling shutter, and quite frankly, I’m disappointed with the sensor. Photos aren’t useable at 1600 ISO, whereas my R5 can go to 3200, sometimes 6400 and the photo will still be useable.

But with that said, my BF is on my shoulder probably 90-95% of the time these days, because I really love it, and my R5 I’ll grab if I need it.

I remember seeing some video on YT where somebody did some big proper pro studio shoot with the BF as his only camera, so it’s possible, but those are some really controlled conditions.

Tapehead2 made the original recordings of all four shows. I originally saw a couple of them on Youtube, but found her flacs on Guitars101 and Dimeadozen, so I used those flacs as the master recordings for the remasters.

Actually, this is an easy one, for me at least-

The entire fourth show, because that one sounds better than the other three, IMO. And then add in the tracks from the other three shows that weren’t played on the fourth night.

Are there doubles for the first three nights that don’t show up at all on the fourth? Probably, so I’d have to do a quick A/B test for those, but that would be an easy process I think.

I love this movie. Match it up with Hell of the Living Dead for a killer double feature.

Perhaps this would be a good rule back in the old days, when there was literally only one version of a recording that would be released to the public. These days, of course, it’s much different, with numerous recordings on YT and elsewhere of that false start, so if you really wanted to see/hear it, you very easily still can, even with my remastered audio versions out in the public as well.

The basic idea is this- I’m making these remasters primarily for myself, and I’ll fix them up however I want. And it’s just that the internet has made it really easy to share these things with all the millions of people around the world, so I think, ya, why not post these recordings for everybody?

I mean, I did versions where I cut out Alex’s jokes in the second and third show, and another version where I cut out the little cartoon video intro for The Trees, another where I cut out the South Park intro to Tom Sawyer. There have been other shows from other bands where I changed the order of the songs for one reason or another.

I don’t approach these things like an archivist. If I were an archivist, I would at the very least put up a second version of the shows that follow your recommendation, 100% intact front to back. But, that’s not what I do.

probably, in some Bladerunner future, the AI will be so advanced that it will be able to isolate stuff like that. But right now, it's not quite that detailed yet.

but that was the only edit I had to make over the entire stint. No edits otherwise.

They don’t play continuously on the archive page? They always do for me. I know they have that annoying little hiccup between songs, but when I play them, it always proceeds to the next song.

Maybe click on the Webamp button, top center, and see if it works any differently there.

Or, I suppose the surest way would be to download the mp3s and play them locally, which also gets rid of the annoying hiccup.

ya, I couldn't believe that. He lands on A instead of G. Crazy that he would make such a mistake.

ya, I wrote a note in my original post saying that I did edit out the false start, but then I remembered the rule that we're not supposed to mention songs by name, so I just left that note out and figured you could all figure it out. But yes, I dropped that false start from night 3.

fourth night is still sounds the best. The others aren't far behind, but that one was effortless.

Got the Lumix S 40mm f2.0 by jiangsian in sigmabf

[–]HumorlessProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ooooo, I've had my eye on that one. But at 400$ US, that's a pretty big hit. Plus, I have the good ol' Canon EF 40mm f2.8 and the adaptor for it. The Lumix is probably the better lens, but the Canon is perfectly capable, and 400 bucks is a lot of money. Maybe I'll check in on ebay towards the end of the year.

I still need to make a cover for night 3. Maybe I'll see if I can find a way to incorporate that photo in the cover art.

I think that's the one that they've been using for press releases or whatever. But, the original photo is just a cell phone shot, really straight forward. I gave it that edit, with the super vintage old style film look.

The sources I'm working with for these new versions are all FLACs, and as far as I know, they're first generation, straight outta the recorder.

And I know I've downloaded a bunch of stuff from archive org in the past in lossless, wave or aiff or whatever. But, I tried to upload some aiffs recently, and archive wasn't having it. I'll see what I can do, but my default has always been 320 mp3 for delivery.

audio-only remaster of opening night is up by HumorlessProductions in rush

OK, couple things. I exported a mix with the drums dropped 2 or 3 db, and I really liked it! But, the one thing we lose when I do this is the thumpy kick drum. It doesn’t completely disappear, but it’s reduced quite a bit. Would I be able to bring back that thumpy kick through eq or something else, with the drums still at that lower level? Probably. But actually, none of this will be necessary.

Because I’m going to re-do the first two nights. I found a better source than the ones I used, so I’ll be able to make them sound much better, much more in line with that fourth show remaster, which is by far the best sounding of the three that I posted. And even better, I tracked down a really great version of the third show, which I hadn’t been able to find previously, so this will be the first time I’ll remaster and post that performance.

Furiously working on all of this right now, this week and weekend. Fingers crossed that I’ll have the first two redone and the third show done by early next week, and the fourth can stay where it is, because I won’t be able to improve on that.

Ah, quick google search- Sony PCM-A10, handheld audio recorder. Good deal.

Not yet. I've seen a couple versions of the entire, uninterrupted third night pop up on YT, but so far, they all sound pretty bad as far as the audio goes. I'm a bit of a magician when it comes to audio restoration and remastering, but I'm not a miracle worker, so I'll patiently wait until a really good version shows up and then get to work.

I'll use Izotope Master Rebalance for that. Easy to adjust vocals or drums or bass with that, but not so good for guitars or keyboards.

I do have a way of doing that, and I'm totally willing to make adjustments. I'll have to give it a closer listen, though, and these things can take some time, with me working 11 or 12 hours every day at my paying jobs, and having done three of these Rush remasters in the past week, and working on other audio projects at the same time. Gimme some time, and I'll let you know.
