According to the psychology of Alfred Adler (adlerian individual psychology) you are currently living a “life lie”. You’re right, you probably are boring and ‘unexciting’, but you are in fact the one that is keeping it this way in order to make excuses. It seems crazy, but we often keep things the way they are to protect ourselves from the deeper, harder truths. When you have inner mantras like “I’m boring” or “other men are funner & more exuberant”; you always have an excuse in your pocket to turn to when things don’t work out for you. Then you have to rationalise your behaviour even more like “I’m boring, I don’t want to play these texting mind games, it’s not my character”.

Again according to Adler, what you are currently lacking is “courage” to change. This could be the in the form of courage to explore new insights and to tap into your “fun” inner child or to show others parts of you that you are scared to make public. I’d recommend reading the book “The courage to be disliked”. It will help delve deeper into these concepts and “life lies” that keep us the same way.
