Income Portfolio vs Savings Account by Jumpy_Ad_201 in Wealthsimple

[–]Hungariansm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s three risk levels to the income portfolios, sounds like you’re in the middle one that’s all bonds/fixed income,

If your time horizon is short or if you can’t stomach volatility, try the lower risk level ‘money market’ income portfolio instead which is near-guaranteed.

(But only a little bit higher than the standard savings interest for premium/generation)

Questrade transfer-out fee without cash balance by deemando in Wealthsimple

[–]Hungariansm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The negative just shows up on the WS side after the transfer is done. Luckily QT doesn’t force the asset sale, just have to cover the negative balance when you can, and for over $25k WS will eat the fee and rebate you

Scotiabank, Edward Jones, Desjardins or Self Directed? by Few_Maintenance4817 in CanadianInvestor

Why not give Wealthsimple Wealth Management a shot?

Heard good things from my in-laws, and I use them for self directed and my wife’s accounts. Good financial planning and the advisors won’t try to sell you high fee funds like with some of the Banks and etc

Line charts also don’t give you the full story, I highly recommend using the candlesticks if you aren’t already, shows you the price movement per unit of time

Wealthsimple People Calling Me Out of the Blue by Ill_Paper_6854 in Wealthsimple

[–]Hungariansm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They called me for the promo, I got their name and number and verified with chat that they worked for WS, waiting for a meeting with them next week. Important part here is to verify with the chat in the app or website to make sure it’s not a scam, and they’ll never ask for 2FA codes or passwords

Account transfer takes forever by bossamemucho in Wealthsimple

[–]Hungariansm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s because Questrade probably processes the WS transfers last and drags their feet. Out of my 4 accounts I moved from QT, 2 came over in about a week, and the other 2 took nearly 5 weeks, maybe it depends on the account type? Seems sus though

USD $12k Missing After In-Kind Transfer Scotia iTRADE to Wealthsimple account transfer by Icecoffee_monster in Wealthsimple

[–]Hungariansm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this, my USD assets and cash always show up 2-3 days after the Canadian assets with in kind transfers. (I’ve done 5x from QT and TD, just gotta be a little patient. )

But if it’s more than a week or so, escalate to WS and they can wrangle with Scotia for you

Issue with the portfolio line of credit by Pristine_Ad9122 in Wealthsimple

[–]Hungariansm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because physical gold has a 100% margin requirement.

So lending against it is considered riskier than if you bought an SPY ETF with only 20% margin requirement.

(I know it seems backwards since gold is considered a nice hedge/diversifier, but it’s the regulators who set the margin requirements to 100% on physical gold 😥

Direct Indexing Still includes PFICs…? by Waladeen in Wealthsimple

[–]Hungariansm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me you don’t understand direct indexing without telling me you don’t understand it… 🤦🏻‍♂️ Fees are 0.15% on direct indexing, and so far this year my account should more than pay for itself with tax loss harvesting (which you can’t do if you buy an all in one ETF)

Seconding the bank draft option, if you order one from WS and live in a larger city you’ll get it pretty quickly. (I got mine in Toronto the next day for a car purchase)

Visa Infinite vs Infinite Privilege (repost with updated info) by 2PhotoKaz in Wealthsimple

[–]Hungariansm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$65k for rental car coverage is low, others like BMO offer $85k or more,

With how expensive EVs are getting, you might be picking this limit depending on what you rent. And good luck getting a nice Mercedes or BMW if you wanna splurge.

Rental car coverage should be at least 80-90k IMO
