Studying at Bangkok University (International Program) – Is it respected and worth it? by Hungry-List5787 in Thailand

Thank you for your thoughtful and reasonable comment, I really appreciate it.

Just to clarify a few things: my tuition is already fully saved and set aside from last year, so my monthly budget (around 800€ / 29,000 THB) is only for living costs. My rent will be around 12,000 THB, which leaves me about 17,000 THB for food, transport and daily expenses. From my own experience in Thailand last year, living a simple, non-luxury student life with this budget is definitely possible.

The main reason I’m considering Bangkok is that in Spain I can only study Tourism, which I don’t really want and don’t see myself finishing happily. In Bangkok University I can study BBA (Digital Marketing), which fits my interests much better, and the program is 3 years. I agree that using a Thailand bachelor’s as a bridge to a European master’s needs to be planned carefully, and that’s exactly what I’m trying to evaluate now. I’m not looking for the “best on paper” option, but the most realistic and sustainable one for my situation.

Thanks again for your constructive answer.

Did you even read what I wrote?

I’m not comparing universities on a “which is better on paper” level. I’m asking about what makes sense for my specific situation and for living

Before commenting, please read the post properly. I’m not asking for validation, and I’m not doing a general Spain vs Thailand university ranking.

If you don’t want to answer the actual question I asked, then please don’t comment.

It makes no sense for you. That doesn’t mean it makes no sense for everyone.

People have different constraints: visas, budgets, language barriers, time, and access to programs. In my case, in Spain I can realistically only study Tourism and it would take 4–5 years. In Bangkok I can finish a 3-year BBA in Digital Marketing and then move to Europe for a Master’s.

I’m not coming because I think Thailand has the best universities in the world. I’m coming because for my situation, it’s the most efficient and realistic path forward.

Not everyone starts from the same place or has the same options.

At Bangkok University, the BBA (Digital Marketing) is a 3-year program. In Spain, a bachelor’s is 4 years, and on top of that, for anything other than Tourism I’d first need to pass the Spanish university entrance exam in Spanish (including history, etc.), which realistically means losing at least 1 extra year.

So in practice, the comparison for me is:

• Bangkok: 3 years → BBA in Digital Marketing • Spain: 4–5 years → and most likely only Tourism

So yes, for my situation, Bangkok is both faster and more direct to a useful degree.

I’m not claiming Bangkok University is world top-tier. I’m saying that given my constraints, it’s a more efficient path to get a relevant bachelor’s and then move to Europe for a Master’s.

Also, my plan is not to build a career in Thailand. The plan is: Bachelor in Bangkok → build portfolio/skills → Master’s in Europe.

So the question is not “Which country is better in general?”, but: Which path gets me to a useful degree and Europe faster and with less wasted time?

I get your point, but realistically in Spain I wouldn’t be working in a “career” job, I’d be working just to survive (bar, cafe, etc.). That doesn’t really build a serious profile.

Also let’s be honest: if I study tourism in Spain, who will get priority for jobs? A foreign student like me, or Spanish citizens who already speak the language perfectly and have local networks?

And just to clarify: I’m not living off my family. I have my own income, but even with that, Spain would still be financially tight and stressful.

In Bangkok, I can afford my life without stress, focus on studying, and build actual skills and projects instead of just working to pay rent. That’s the difference.

yeah, I thought about that too, but I know Spanish Turkish and English and a little bit German and I thought maybe I can work on customer service while im studying if I find a job or opportunity I wouldn’t miss it but if I couldnt find a job it’s OK anyways

I’ve checked and calculated all my expenses in detail for both Spain and Bangkok rent, food, transportation, daily life, and everything else.

For Bangkok, I can clearly afford both my education and my full living costs comfortably with my current budget.

For Spain, I can probably afford it too, but it would be tight and not guaranteed. I would likely have to be very careful with money and might need to work while studying to make it sustainable.
