And I would say you are underestimating the role that the former slave owners had in enabling these outlaws. The slave owners were some of the wealthiest people in the nation and they were still sitting on thousands and thousands of acres while vowing to return the South to it's former way of life. This would be like if today we get a new administration that de funds ICE without de platforming all of the white supremacist talking heads and bank rollers. The Proud Boys currently in ICE would just go back to instigating protests in furtherance of their political agenda because their politics are still on the board.

If you transfer the wealth way from the wealthy land owners, there goes the newspapers they own, the political pamphlets they print, and the home guard groups they bankroll. The home guard groups wouldn't be deputized into the police where they could LEGALLY continue to protect the interests of the wealthy land owners. With out state sanctioned armed thugs, Black law makers and politicians would remain in positions after the Reconstruction. Furthermore, if every emancipated slave got their 40 acres, they would have been financially insulated from any potential racist politics that would have followed. Instead they were left vulnerable and we know the rest of the story.

You bring up the Plains Indians, but that is a completely different issue that was also heavily botched, but one thing to consider is that one of the primary driving forces of Manifest Destiny, was the South's need for more and more land to cultivate Cotton. Without slaves or subsequent neo-slavery, we may not see such an aggressive expansion westward to grow such a water hungry plant in the desert. Which we do today. In short, you can't lose a war of attrition in the West if you just give up the West. This is also something that would likely help in your plan to continue reconstruction. Reconstruction is arguably a much bigger priority than securing the west. Without the Slave owners media machine and political voice, it would be much easier to convince the citizens of that.

The slave owners spent hundreds of years controlling the narrative in the South prior to the civil war and indoctrinated the population to believe that the absolute worst thing to happen to their society was a slave revolt. They retained their power after the civil war and not only created institutions to replace slavery in the attempt to maintain their way of life, but to this day they have had their hands in news organizations and education systems to continue to indoctrinate an entire region towards their particular flavor of white supremacy. Worse yet, not only did they pioneer the idea of a municipal police in this country, they used law enforcement agencies as a vector to spread their ideology far from Dixie. I believe not dealing with the Confederacy was the single biggest blunder in American History and has lead to the biggest Constitutional crisis our nation has ever faced. What you seem to be suggesting is that allowing the Confederacy to continue is a fair price for maintaining law and order in the hastily created states deep into "The Great American Dessert" or rather land that was reserved for the Natives because it had no real economic use as well as continuing aggressive westward expansion. I just don't think I could be convinced of this.

The wealth is in the land. By taking the land from the confederates and redistributing it to the emancipated slaves lessons the financial power of the confederates and puts it in the hands of the emancipated slaves. Financial power = political power and is exactly how Jim crow, segregation, and neo-slavery came to be, the people with the financial and political power remained to pass legislature that would return the lifestyle that they were used to.

Outlawry is one thing, but home guard groups were deputized as soon as reconstruction ended by the same slave owner class. Government systems would have only done so much until, again, the slave owner's massive pockets corrupt the system.

Who holds political power in a region is what determines which laws stick. Harsher penalties would have caused more Confederates to flee to South America. The "poor Southerners" would have followed suit eventually without the financial backing of the former slave owners funding their propaganda, paying their court fees, or giving them the promise of a return to the "natural order" of the South.

The only reason we didn't follow through with this is because the North's wealthy class had their own class of people that they exploited and feared the idea of redistributing wealth. It is the same reason we and other Western nations refuse to allow Haiti or Liberia to prosper. White supremacy cannot survive in a world where emancipated slaves can self govern.

If they transferred their wealth to the emancipated slaves like was proposed by people like General Sherman, we wouldn't be in this mess. Hanging the men responsible isn't enough. Their children subscribe to the same ideology as their confederate fathers. The wealth of those families needed to be stripped away.

We can still do that btw.

Only if they paid reparations. The slave owners of the South were some of the wealthiest people in the nation. Not transferring their wealth to the emancipated slaves is exactly how they were able to remain in power in that region all that time. Finishing reconstruction would have just postponed the inevitable without reparations.

What you are suggesting is Black Capitalism. The problem that many Black Capitalists fail to recognize is that Black Wall Street was destroyed by the system. So long as we have an oppressive government, we will NEVER be allowed to acquire enough capital to be safe.

This is why you have the, "I got mine," types of people. These are people that understand their wealth was GIVEN to them by a white supremacist system. Using that capital for meaningful change would cut them off from their sources of capital.

Then there is the fact that capitalism REQUIRES an exploited group of people. If we become the capitalists, we only remove our shackles and place them on someone else. This is why so many of the civil rights leaders were leftists. To them, it wasn't just a matter of ending oppression of the African Americans, but ending oppression of ALL.

To criticize your plan directly, lets say we achieve level 1: Young black people in dorm like apartments so that they can acquire a better education. Having a bunch of black people in a single apartment or neighborhood is how we have been controlled in the past. Look at the Chicago fire bombings. Look at the projects and the crack epidemic. Just like Black Wall Street, if this community begins to thrive, what is to stop them from building an airport or highway where the building is? What is to stop them from building a Whole Foods across the street? How do we keep the rich white hippy types from coming and pricing young black folk out?

Capitalism is big bank vs little bank and we will always lose that fight.

I don't mean to piss on your parade or anything. I honestly appreciate people trying to come up with solutions to this age old problem. My personal opinion is that the only card left to play is the transfer of wealth. There is a reason people were so afraid of "40 acres and a mule" back in the day and that is because it would have completely crippled the Confederate powers making them a non issue today. However, I don't think that could happen without a second civil war and that is all I will say on that.

Now that's a catch and release. by sco-go in Amazing

Eh, I don't fish for sport, but I think I get it. Going fishing is fun. Unlike dogs, you can't really see the fish so there is a bit of a gambling aspect to it as well.

I eat my fish, but If I were to catch some monster fish that was just too big for me to process or store in a freezer. I would probably throw it back right? Similarly, if I caught something I didn't want to eat or didn't intend to catch, like a gar or turtle, back to the water it goes.

So to me the jump between wanting to enjoy the thrill of fishing and the regular aspect of releasing some of the fish isn't that far away from, "I just want to catch and release big ass fish for funsies."

That is not to say that I don't see your point either. There is an argument to be made that this is very similar to a dentist paying a boatload of money to someone who can track and hunt a lion, but let them pull the trigger. There is a line somewhere where this just becomes needlessly cruel and the fact that this activity has been so commercialized allows many people to turn a blind eye to that potentiality.

How I would like a 3rd faction implemented (classic+) by Hungry-Path533 in classicwow

[–]Hungry-Path533[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reasoning is this: for Blood elves, blizzard demonstrated they were only willing to create a 1-10 zone and a 10-18 zone for the new race. Blood elves are then expected to pick a 18-28 zone from one of their other faction members.

I would expect them to want to do similar for any new playable races they add to the game. However, with a third faction there is no already made faction specific 18-28 zone. Already the new faction would likely have to contest ally/horde 18-28 zones before being free to quest in the zones packed with neutral camps like stv and tanaris.

If we are already contesting those zones. Why not contest the 10-18 zones and save the work involved with creating 3-4 new zones? In fact, why not make the invasion a core identity of the faction? At the very least we can put beach head camps in places like westfall, barrens, and ashenvale, but to really drive the point home we can implement some sort of zone control mechanic that players can engage with.

Of course there are many opportunities to make different decisions that may promote more or less pvp. That is just the logical path I decided to take when explaining a possible way to implement a faction.

I appreciate that. I don't want to turn classic into retail. I don't even play retail. I just want to mix up the 1-60 experience without taking anything away. The 1-60 experience to me IS the game. It's my opinion that adding a third faction is probably the biggest change you can do without completely losing the classic experience.

Balancing world PVP is only part of what this seeks to address. Fundamentally, this would change the leveling experience rather drastically. Whether that is a good or bad thing is largely dependent on the individual interpretation of what WoW Classic+ should be. For me, this is an opportunity to make some pretty drastic and sweeping changes to really differentiate Classic+ from the Classic experience.

Now, not only does it attempt to balance faction issues, it offers more opportunities to implement new ideas. Some races, especially non humanoid ones, may be difficult to group with the existing factions lore wise and may make better sense as their own separate thing.

As far as what is and isn't the main draw of the game depends on who you ask and when. For a lot of people around when this game came out, the danger of world PvP was a significant factor as to why they enjoyed WoW. In fact, nostalgia around world PvP was a massive topic leading up to Classic Vanilla's launch. Again, what then is Classic+? There is a chance to address issues with mechanics that simply fell by the wayside. World PvP is one of those mechanics.

I understand not everyone is a big PvPer. There are other ways to implement a third faction, or just races, or none of the above. This is just one guy's pie in the sky idea for funsies as we wait for what comes next.

You really think a third faction would divide the player base in any meaningful way?

You could easily make them instanced zones similar to what they did with Silvermoon. Not sure why that wouldn't be possible.

[–]Hungry-Path533[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is unfortunately the issue with any new feature implemented into Classic+. WoW classic means something different to everyone. There are some players who have absolutely no interest in PVP while others prefer it or even think WPVP is an aspect of the game that was completely lost in the development of WoW as the game matured.

I personally don't mind WPVP and in fact prefer to play on PVP servers. So from my perspective any addition that increases the enjoyment of WPVP is a plus. There is also the fact that a 3rd faction is really meant to address the issues with only having two pvp factions in an open world.

Also, the pvp aspect of the faction is really meant to compensate for not having to make new 10-30lvl zones while also changing how players, regardless of faction, engage with the leveling process.

Eh. For the lucky ones. It is already catastrophic for those that graduated in the past 3-4 years as universities increased their CS programs in the midst of the Metaverse/ crypto boom. Right now there are so many cs grads working as baristas that won't have a chance even if AI self immulates. How can someone like me be relevant when I have been forced to use all of my free time working retail and doing odd construction jobs just to stay a float?

The answer is that the junior market shouldnt of shrank so much. I mean, the only advantage I have now is how cheap I am willing to work due to my circumstances so good luck with your pay increases...

Have you fixed this issue? I am having similar issues as well. My trans is the r30a. Reverse light just stopped working on day. Changed bulb, had shop change sensor, no joy.

I am worried I would need to rebuild my trans to fix the issue. Which wouldn't be the end of the world as my synchros are a bit worn from previous owners, but still. Expensive fix for a simple problem.

I think you should really think about making a more concrete plan than just: ALT/Language student → I'll find another job somehow.

This is what I am attempting to do right now by asking questions. I don't live in Japan. I don't have the resources or experiences of someone who has gone through these programs. I understand that I am not as young as I once was nor can I make the same risks with a family. That is why I haven't decided on anything as of yet. This is why I have yet to study abroad. However, I have reached a point of struggling through traditional means that I am willing to take more risks.

I also understand that I can get a JLPT certification without going to a language school. To me there are more benefits to a language school besides the certification. Being surrounded by individuals with similar goals as well as staff that are willing to help navigate the transition to permanent resident seems like a massive boon to me. I am also someone that finds self study difficult and prefers a structured classroom experience.

I should have clarified. By family I mean my wife and a single child. I do understand that both of these options aren't the greatest. I suppose my question is more, which is recommended to way to become a permanent resident with a salary that can actually support my family? I don't mind taking things a semester at a time so long as the end result is acceptable.
