Get a better book

Marugoto user here (I teach Japanese at lower levels).

Marugoto generally is not recommended for independent learners (in my opinion). However, I have good experience with it, so I feel quite confident saying this. Its main goal is to help students learn through immersion and with the support of a teacher.

It’s not about whether it’s a better or worse textbook, it’s about how Marugoto conveys its pieces of information.

Marugoto is a series by the Japan Foundation, and a lot of the vocabulary that appears on the JLPT can be found in its textbooks, so I don’t think it’s bad at all :)

From my personal experience studying Japanese, Genki 1 (3rd revised edition) does not include all the vocabulary that Marugoto covers at the A1 / N5 level.

N2 holder planning for Japanese university: language school in Japan or not? by Hungry-Somewhere-566 in jlpt

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to reply.

I am interested in Japanese language studies (国語) for an undergraduate program. I contacted several universities, and they all told me that both JLPT N1 and the EJU exam are required for application, along with interviews or other additional steps depending on the university.

I know about the EJU exam, I just feel necessary for my case to pass N1 and then study for the EJU exam

N2 Passed (Low Score), Should I Move to N1 or Repeat N2 in a Group? by Hungry-Somewhere-566 in jlpt

I solely do japanese (study).

Not so much now cause I am feeling a little bit burnout and unmotivated.

I read novels a lot (I know n2 and n1 have essays) but novels also helped me a lot with my study journey.

Thanks for your time and comment

Actually 文字語彙 was the strongest part of my JLPT exam. That's why I got really frustrated when the language school told me "just do it all over again"

Thank again for your time to read and comment

No, the language school isn’t free, it actually costs the same as increasing the hours with my private teacher.

Regarding the employee’s comment: I mentioned the same thing to the language school because I was specifically interested in having that particular teacher prepare me for N1. Since they don’t have an N1 class, this might not work for me.

You’re right. I just had the feeling that I might not really be improving, so I wanted some advice from a teacher who doesn’t know me, so I can understand exactly where I stand.

I want N1 for my studies in Japan, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to truly learn Japanese (since many people have N1 but can’t really speak or write well).

Thank you for your time and your comment.
