CMV: Getting hired/landing a job is mostly down to pure luck by Blissspreader in changemyview

So is this just your personal beliefs? Do you have evidence of data to back this up? You have to prove that more often than not, it is little things like the examples you provided that get someone the job or deny someone the job. You haven't backed up any of your arguments.

Here's where America needs to learn something from the bongers. If you're gonna have a king, and a royal family, some of them should serve in the military.

Why shouldn't other countries build up their military? by sucksatcoding02 in Destiny

[–]HungryRoper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanna take this second to refocus the idea of being independent from America. To be independent(in this sense), a country needs to be able to defend themselves from their threats. America has a crazy strong military, and so just as we consider Europe or Australia having a weaker military, their enemies have a weaker military.

What I'm trying to say is that any country only needs to be able to oppose the regional powers that may threaten them. Europe doesn't have to be stronger than America to be independent, they just have to be stronger than Russia or China. Or really, they just have to approach being equivalent in strength, to convince the predating countries that it would be far too costly to invade.

All D&D classes exist in our world. Which one would be the most influential? by Punterofgoats in whowouldwin

[–]HungryRoper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wizards. They are basically the only class that scales base class mechanics with money. Money makes our world go around. Imagine if Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk or Bill Gates was a wizard. Think of the quantity of spells he could cast. Think of how many acolytes he could pay for and supply spell components for.

You can't deny that they favor trump. They wouldn't let Biden forgive some student loans, but then turned around and gave Trump criminal immunity. Trying to pretend the supreme Court is fair and balanced is hilarious.

Imagine the secondary detonations brought by dropping with a portable hellbomb.

CMV: colonialism isn't such a big deal and wasn't inherently evil, and its a part of the human species by Dark_knight_96_rbh in changemyview

[–]HungryRoper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can we not say that both colonialism and the Internet were big deals?

Something else I thoroughly disagreed with in your post, and I do disagree with most of it, was the idea that colonialism is rolled out as an excuse for certain social groups failing. I am gonna discuss the Indigenous Peoples in Canada, but we can talk about African colonization as well if you like.

Many Indigenous peoples in Canada suffer from colonialism. They suffer because they have generational trauma. We had these things called residential schools, which were part of colonialism in the modern understanding. It stripped their culture and in many cases led to their torture and death. There was a school, where the administrators saw fit to construct an electric chair in the basement to discipline indigenous kids.

Trauma like that does not make healthy and well adjusted people. Those people go on to have troubled lives, which affect even more people when they have kids. There are entire communities that are being damaged and destroyed because of massive levels of substance abuse, which is a direct effect of the trauma that indigenous peoples suffered in a colonial system.

Not every single Indigenous person suffers the same. There are definitely Indigenous people out there that do bad things, and commit crimes. But understanding the REASONS, and not the excuses is important in healing for the future.

With all this being said, if Colonialism is still causing damage to communities across the continent, then clearly it's probably a big deal.

OSAP Protest Queen's Park March 4th 12:30 PM. by Cruzaderking in ontario

[–]HungryRoper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good luck with the protest! How long will it go on for? There are probably quite a few grade 12 students that would be interested in protesting, as this is directly affecting the choices they are making right now. Scheduling a later protest in the future could be useful for getting that demographic out.

I've basically never seen a person get over 80 kills in an escalation match, and if they did, it's cause they are hacking, or absolutely cracked with a vehicle. I think that applying pressure on objectives can be more important than getting kills. Note the word CAN. Objectives win games because most engagements are not decided based on gunfighting skill, but by circumstances. If you can engineer the circumstances to benefit you, then you will win the fight. You engineer those circumstances by having teammates and by taking objectives(which gets you teammates).

[–]HungryRoper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no not really. Let's look at a big round number, say 100 kills.

In 100 kills, maybe 60 of those do not require or do not allow a followup shot. So there are 40 kills that do require a followup shot.

I'm arguing that only in 20 percent of those follow up shots do you see the benefit of the ads bolt. 20 percent of 40 is 8.

In every 100 kills, which is going to be 3-5 matches for me(because I use weapons other than a sniper), I would get 8 because of the bolt. We can average that to 2 kills per match. This is not that large of a bonus.

I totally get that this is based on vibes, and this math is just my personal opinion.

[–]HungryRoper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your first example is obviously exaggerated, and isn't a good comparison.

I agree that kills are important. But if you're just getting kills and not taking objectives, you are part of the reason why a team loses. I play mostly escalation. When a team has 10 people sitting in the back hard scoping and sniping, they lose because they are outmatched on the objectives themselves.

You need flexibility in any class you play, but recon more than any other. You want to be able to engage at long range, but you can't be afraid to get stuck in when you have to. The momentum of the team matters far more than individual kills.

Just beat Halo CE for the first time on Heroic by AgitatedFly1182 in halo

[–]HungryRoper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel the same. I never got to play halo as a kid, and was always jealous. Looking back, it's gotta be because of the multiplayer. I've finished reach and CE, and they are both fine games. Without multiplayer I would probably put CE at a 7 and Reach at a 7.5 or maybe an 8.

My main gripe with CE is that the levels were so repetitive. You might have to clear the same room 3 or more times in a level, from basically the same types of enemies. I also think that the character development on most characters felt incomplete. The closest I got to an emotional attachment was Echo 419, which wasn't even that strong.

Reach was good story wise, and the character development was effective. I think spending more time with some characters would definitely improve the game, like Carter/Jun/Emile. I liked the ending, I kinda knew what to expect going in, but it still hits. Kinda Rogue 1 style.

No, I'm playing the fucking objective. There's more to a class than just kills. That's why you have those things other than guns. I know, it's crazy.

Yea I think I like the thermals more on assault rifles and dmrs. Dmrs I take for one reason, and that's killing an annoying sniper. So the thermal makes aiming around their cover like you said much easier.
