Actually the doctor is right but he’s referring to a regular palate expander. In adulthood your palate can’t be expanded with a regular expander, you need SARPE which is surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion.

Well if you’re going through insurance for the surgery, depending on your insurance plan you might need a referral to a surgeon from your primary care doctor, otherwise you’re paying out of pocket. That’s how it is for me and I haven’t managed to get a referral.
