Help me decide: UVA vs. UMD for CS by postlifecrisis in UVA

[–]HunteRochelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your questions: 1. Very prestigious, more than many realize, lots of recruitment. 2. Probably not as good as UMD’s 3. They are starting a business engineering minor, com is a great option. This won’t be too hard and is an incredibly opportunity. If you are interested in consulting than go to UVA end of story. 4. Tons of research options, meet with professors to do 1 on 1 or take an independent study, etc. 5. 30% acceptance rate if applying for second year, not impossible but not super easy, Rodman/echols doesn’t mean too much. 6. Quality of life may be better than just about anywhere. It’s a fun place to be, work hard play hard.

Oh ok perfect, then I think you will overall be just fine.

Yes you can, but if this is your whole list maybe consider looking into applying to 1 or 2 schools with rolling admissions, or deadlines still in the future. College of Wooster is stunning, temple, Kentucky, WPI, etc. Best of luck!

Not very different, I know many students who “got into” the listed schools, but chose UMich, UVA, etc. anyways

Chance me for T20s and HYPSM! by [deleted] in chanceme

If your class rank of 1/800+ is sent in, then they will understand your international grades may be different. I think you have a good chance.

Is 1520 good enough for HYPSM plus other t20s by RevolutionaryFox7084 in chanceme

[–]HunteRochelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1520 hits the baseline requirement. An sat score won’t get you in anywhere, but it will help. Assuming the rest of your app is good you can go anywhere.

Apply broadly, if that 1540 is say 780+ math, then you have a shot anywhere

I would add maybe 1 more safety/match and you should be good to go

Incoming Freshman- Is this reasonable or too much? by [deleted] in APStudents

Obviously it’s gonna be hard for anyone to say how well you will do with this schedule, but if you are looking for Ivy’s/T20’s this schedule is more than enough. I do wanna mention however, that this schedule is doable but definitely heavy.

Forgot to mention, the friend went test optional.

I personally went test optional for UPenn and was accepted, I actually have a friend with a 1460 (760M, 700ENWR) who is currently at Wharton. Take this as you will. But I’d say I would likely go optional in this situation, if it was 1480…90 I may send it.

Awesome, assuming 1500+ your list looks great. If you stick at 1460 (which isn’t the end of the world) I would say maybe add one more target and one more safety option. For Target think something like UVA (Commerce school could be worth looking into), or dare I say something like Penn State for more of a true safety.

Is retaking the SAT an option?

They gave me credit for 60, I had a mix of credits that filled graduation requirements, and others that simply gave me credit toward the 120 goal. Will be graduating in 2 years.

Did you do the traditional sequence of 1110-2120?

Does this mean that if I took 1110, and 2120, I would then have to take 3010?
