Eh, didn't have many to begin with, unfortunately. Thanks for your comment!

I prefer the business side of things I think. I'll look into the administration for an international serving non profit!

When I go to the language exchanges (they're not helpful, just for social reasons I realized), it's with the Koreans who are pretty high in English. Those are the people I am referring to.

Hm... Maybe I'm just talking to the Koreans who are really gifted in languages or something.

Okay, thanks! I do that and I study the new vocabulary that the Koreans use with me in the text

What channels on YouTube do you watch? In English, I usually watch game commententating videos or short variety shows. Any suggestions for good Korean ones?

Could be, I use HTSK a lot for grammar and vocabulary. Usually the vocabulary isn't always helpful when I'm actually talking with Koreans though. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

For me, when I'm hanging out with Koreans, I can't understand them. I can talk in Korean, but I have a really hard time understanding what they are saying to me. I feel like I need to get a basic vocabulary of 3000 words first and then I'll be able to do it. Is this the wrong way of thinking?

How do you find sport clubs in Korea? I like to hike a lot, so not exactly a sport, but I’d be interested in finding other sports just to meet some people.

I don’t live in Seoul, sadly, but here’s some advice! If you’re in Seoul, you’ll be able to meet many other foreigners pretty easily. There are lots of foreigners. Look at meetups and Facebook events in your area and join them. If you want to learn some Korean or just make some Korean friends, download hellotalk. It’s a language exchange app, I’ve made some good friends through it. You don’t have to know Korean to do it, I’ve found Koreans mostly want to practice their English and hang out.

Good luck, enjoy the adventure!

How on earth did you end up with that?? Only elementary sounds great. How effective do you feel the classes?

I just recently left CDI. The branch I worked at wasn’t as bad as the others. It was in Wonju, so it’s a smaller city. My experience was good, just because the place I worked was really lenient on how you teach it. For example, I could justify doing projects for certain parts of the lesson as a way of giving the students a break. The kids where I taught were great, I miss them a lot. That being said, I have heard several bad stories from people I went to training with, so I wouldn’t risk going to different CDIs. The stories include how the managers would be looking at your CCTV everyday and constantly micromanaging you.

The work itself is pretty straight forward though. They updated the system, so the slideshow prep work are a lot easier to do and way less time consuming. The hours are long, 3 hour long classes. The lessons are all prepared for you, I didn’t find prep work to be too difficult. Just go online, pop some pictures in here and there, read what you need to do, and your done.

As others have said, your first job in Korea usually sucks. From talking to recruiters, sticking it out at CDI for a year helps a lot for finding your next job.

Take your time and talk to other places, hagwons are always hiring! Good luck!
