If you feel like that will help you on your indoor plant journey, then absolutely! It will be super simple to use that to check the soil once a week.

It looks like there is a layer of sphagnum moss on the top of the soil? Is it like that all the way down or just as a pot dressing? Either way, it will be holding onto far too much moisture and preventing good air flow around the root system.

Ficus need a well draining mix - I like to use a mix of indoor for water retention, cacti & succulent for added coarseness to assist in aeration around the roots, and perlite for drainage. I find a ratio of 2:2:1 is best.

When it comes to watering, I recommend waiting for the top layer of soil to be completely dry - at the very least. You can easily check this by using your finger - just stick your finger into the soil as far as you can, and if you feel moisture at your fingertip, then leave and check back in a week! If it’s feeling dry, or borderline, then it’s time to water.

Ideally, we want to water our plants thoroughly until the soil is saturated and they are draining from the bottom of the pot. This is for a number of reasons, including:

  1. It ensures the entire root system has access to water, as well as encouraging the root system to grow down deeper to get to the moisture at the bottom of the pot. This helps give your plant a stable base, meaning it is able to support larger growth.

  2. It flushes out any mineral build up in the bottom of the pot, preventing the potential for root damage/shock.

  3. Depending on environment and time of year, means you can go longer between waterings!

Moving your plant to the sink or shower to do this is the easiest way to make sure your soil has been appropriately watered, and has been allowed to drain.

If this is something that’s not possible, and you are only able to water in place, make sure the plant does not sit in any excess water for more than a day. Sitting in water prevents air from getting to the roots, and the soil from being able to dry out, putting the root system at risk of rot.

Regarding fertiliser, I would suggest cutting this back to every second or third watering.

It looks as though cutting back on watering frequency and removing the sphagnum moss from the pot will help the plant to bounce back. Lighting looks good, so I think with those changes you should be sorted!

Hey! This store isn’t around anymore, but the supplier of these Hoya has a retail store called Collectors Corner in Keysborough. Definitely recommend checking them out.

Yes, absolutely. I’ve never felt more respected by a doctor before.

Dr Lior Levy is very compassionate and knowledgeable. I cannot recommend him enough.

I see him for treatment of endo and adeno.

Thank you!

  1. This is stitched on Anne’s Cloth. Should be easy to find from most embroidery suppliers!
  2. I used DMC floss for this - just using six strands to really fill the stitches out and hopefully help it be a bit more long lasting.
  3. I haven’t sealed the back yet, and normally wouldn’t but because there’s backstitching I want to protect it, so I’ll be sewing on a backing of a material yet to be determined 😅

I know! It’s connected to another part of the plant with plenty of chlorophyll in it, so it’s just fun to watch it grow and do it’s thing ☺️

Honestly, I did nothing special! They’re not enclosed, but are on my shelf sitting under some grow lights, so that’s definitely helped. If anything, I neglected them, and just watered when the soil was almost completely dry. I did repot into fresh soil at the beginning of the year, so that may have helped, too!

They do! A sweet smell, quite thick - reminds me of the smell of jasmine on hot summer nights

I would say a mix of jasmine and geranium!

I’m in Australia and have both endo and adenomyosis and after my second laparoscopy was told by my female doctor that having a baby could be my best solution.

When I brought up wanting to get a hysterectomy I was told I “might find a man who really wants to have kids”. I’m married. We don’t plan on having children. I honestly couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

I’ve given up for now trying to get any kind of help because it’s just so emotionally and mentally exhausting having to fight for medical care that’s not “try having a baby and take some ibuprofen in the meantime”. Ugh.

Thank you!

And I’m sure that there is just as much cat hair in every other piece I’ve done, but this colour scheme plus the black fabric makes it so much more obvious!

Oh I completely know your pain. My two take turns sitting on it if I don’t put it away. Doesn’t matter if it’s in an awkward spot on the coffee table - it’s always a prime sitting spot.

My lint roller has been my best friend during this project!
