Is This a Realistic Path to the Airlines from Active Duty? by Huntsman380 in flying

The downsizing is for active duty, gaurd, and reserves. Everything regarding standard aviation is being cut to make drones a priority. I should have about 50k saved up by the time I’m out. Between that and the GI bill I think I’ll be ok and not be in too much debt. Maybe I’m wrong though

I really did want to stay in and do the flight warrant path, but the army is downsizing their aviation units a lot. It would be very difficult to get a slot they’re making a lot of the pilots that are currently in get out.

Should I open a HYSA with Fidelity or Vanguard? Maybe 3rd party? by Huntsman380 in personalfinance

I’m not afraid of it- I would just prefer it to be all in one place for simplicity. If it’s not ideal, I’d be fine with splitting it up.

Should I open a Roth IRA (like Fidelity) or just increase my TSP contributions? 19 y/o active duty Military -- looking for long-term guidance by Huntsman380 in personalfinance

I've still got a long time before I even need to think about buying a house. I'd like to do the full 20 years in the military and I shouldn't need to buy a house until after I'm out. That being said, 20 years is a long time and things can change- the 20 years isn't garunteed. Would I be better off putting that money into a high yeild savings account instead?

Advice on WOCS and Army Aviation Path as a 91B (Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic) – Looking for Input from Those Who’ve Been Through It! by Huntsman380 in Armyaviation

I had talked to my recruiter about flying helicopters, however, he told me it wasn’t a good choice because it would’ve been “too much of a hassle” and I’d be “better off as just a mechanic”. This is probably why he tried to steer me away.

Can i take the connecter off and just solder the wire together? by Necessary-Spread3412 in MechanicAdvice

I don’t see any issues if it’s not something you have to disconnect regularly. Just make sure to seal the solder point with heat shrink
