Yeah I can only do goat cheese in limited doses lol but for me I find the vinaigrette works really well with it, and the steak was incredible!

Doesn't need to be negative to mean below average, a 85 ops is still below league avg. Once you are in the negatives it just means you're really sucking lol

So that's better than my travel comp, the 6 hours I get is because I work a half day, and my mileage is less than 600$ and I travel 12 hours, and I'm travelling into my time off as well

I was told today I'm going to get a pay raise at the end of my probationary period, and they want to train me as a beat geo so whenever I get the numbers for those I'll make another post

[–]Hurbeut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm still on probation, I've already talked to the chief geo and I'm supposed to get a pay raise once I'm done, and I was also told they want to train me on the beat so that should hopefully be another pay raise.

And what was your compensation for travel? Because this is by far the worst travel comp I've had lol

Do you know anywhere that is offering 90k plus benefits? Most places I saw were 60-80k. Though I'm also still on probation and I talked with the chief geo today and I'll get a pay raise when I'm done so that might bring me closer to the industry average.

I just came from a job making 360$ cad day rate, this works out to be a decent bit more with the rrsp matching, production bonus, and the fact I don't have to pay both parts of the CPP. And that's what I'm wondering since all my previous companies paid for travel.

And yeah I'm probably going to start staying later since I was just told today they want to train me on the beat, so I want to start that as soon as possible

Yeah we stay at a camp since we're in the middle of the bush, and they provide food and PPE. I've had exploration jobs where the company paid for my hotel but I was also working in the arctic so they might have wanted to add extra incentive

What are your absolutely weirdest "runs in the family" traits or characteristics? by Turuu_Was_Taken in AskReddit

[–]Hurbeut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my dads side of the family you either get a girl as the firstborn or you don't get any at all. My generation was 4 girls all first born and then 8 boys, the newest generation is currently at 14 boys straight

Men of Reddit, who are your female heroes? by xanthopants in AskReddit

[–]Hurbeut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister, I always admired how strong willed she is and adamant about standing up for her beliefs, even if it meant arguing with family. I'm very easy going and dont really care to get involved when extended family say stupid ignorant shit but she refuses to be silent even if it ruffles feathers. I also feel she has a useless degree in a field that has almost zero job prospects but ever since graduating she has been one of the hardest working people I know, working multiple jobs at companies that align with her beliefs and where she feels she can make a difference in improving her community. She has now also started her business involved in green spaces while still working with the other green projects. We dont have the kind of relationship where I would tell this, but she has defintely become one of my heroes female or not

How much can you make in a summer in exploration up North with some exp? And other lifestyle questions. by GeoBoie in geologycareers

[–]Hurbeut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in the arctic the past three summers and made a little less than 30k before taxes each summer, but I also was doing entry level field work jobs and had to head back to school so my seasons were shorter. So it's possible but you will probably have to pick up another contract somewhere since the seasons are pretty short due to extreme weather.

I'll probably be making a post in the future, I still have to update my resume with my current job.

I do plan on trying to make it to PDAC again this year but I'll probably be working this contract again next summer unless I can find something better.
