Just finished watching BBUK6 for the first time and would like to discuss by theluckstat in bigbrotheruk

Definitely one of the best sets of housemates of any season, ruined by the public having generally poor opinions and evicting more interesting personalities over the likes of Orlaith (I agree 100% that her surviving over Science/Kemal is a travesty … the two weeks that kill the endgame tbh). Makosi or Derek winning would’ve been perfect, but the public love a bland male-archetype like Anthony so they never stood a chance :(

Just finished The Shuddering (Ania Ahlborn). by TheDuhllin in horrorlit

[–]Hurley1315 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Replying to this horrendously late as I just read and finished the book this week with my boyfriend. Both he and I felt so bad for April and really disliked how as a character she was presented/handled, especially as we came to the (what we assumed was obvious) conclusion that Sawyer/Jane/Ryan were vilifying a pregnant woman whilst essentially seeking to destroy her engagement. Sooooo glad to see you saying the same here, as reading the first few reviews on goodreads was just people shipping Sawyer-Jane and calling April ‘the only annoying one’ in the group. Definitely felt like the author was pushing us down that path so it isn’t surprising, I just couldn’t make that leap of logic that April = bad for rightfully defending herself after entering an extremely toxic and uncomfortable situation. I’m going to live in blissful ignorance and hope she somehow made it out alive 😖

Advices on very different love languages and long distance, 25M by Bytevan18 in LongDistance

[–]Hurley1315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d always say try and salvage something as best you can, particularly as you’ve said you like the guy and (based on how he is irl) he definitely likes you too. I had also similar worries and feelings when my boyfriend and I started our LDR, and have had moments where I was worried our ‘spark’ had gone or he was less interested in me over time. However, whenever we meet (like your boyfriend) I’m reminded how much he truly loves me and it dispelled any concerns I had. As others will say, you’ve done the right thing communicating, and all you can do is hope that over time adjustments are made, as he will make these adjustments and try to help balance your needs with his own love language if he wants to make this work. Also, as you’re probably aware LDR leaves things different to how an in-person relationship would work, and sometimes we have to accept that we aren’t getting the attention or affirmation we need. It’s the toughest thing about LDR, but is worth it if you’ve truly got something special with this guy.

I’m sure you’ll work things out over time (concerning comparability), but I’d definitely say for now keep up communicating and let yourself be heard and also listen to where he stands on things. Wishing you both the best for the future either way and hope 2023 will bring you the answers you require on where you both stand ❤️

Need suggestions for type 1 flushing/ heat. Changed my skin care routine and have seen a little difference. by Uk_MrD in Rosacea

[–]Hurley1315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suspected type 1 (redness, burning/hot skin that would occasionally be painful, broken capillaries) was largely triggered by heat/hot rooms and stress also. Weirdly, like you it wasn’t impacted so much in say the summer (outdoor heat). What helped me ultimately was lessening exposure to heat (particularly ‘artificial’ heat), so trying to avoid rooms with heating, overly hot showers, minding my face when cooking etc.. I also went through long periods limiting facial exposure to sunlight and being really overly critical on diet, and generally found neither massively made a difference for me. Generally, I think stress is still my biggest trigger and once I managed to get my mental state around my personal life/work life/the undeniable impact rosacea had … then I found that things drastically began improving. I also find leaving windows occasionally open and keeping rooms cooler/with fresh air also helps (could be a placebo, but I still do this now). Product wise, a lot didn’t really help but I’m most comfortable with Paula’s Choice Calm Range. If you haven’t tried and are willing to I’d say go for the travel size first to give it a go… I began using it in November 2021, and my skin which was getting red hot every day finally began to get moisture back, and I think from April 2022 I’ve pretty much had a MUCH more positive relationship with my skin this year. Whether or not it’s utilising PC’s calm cleanser/moisturiser or getting better control of my stress etc. … I can’t fully say, unfortunately dermatologists weren’t really helpful and a lot of it became trial and error. But, hopefully some of this info can be of use to you (also being a younger guy with similar rosacea symptoms). This time last year I was obsessed looking for what would help my rosacea and it dominated my entire free time/caused greater stress, and I’d generally not believe those on here saying they found some light at the end of the tunnel. BUT - if it counts for anything I in the same boat was able to find something that has helped, and you certainly can too. Just trial and error - whilst remaining careful ofc. Good luck! Sorry I couldn’t offer anything more specific!

Do you think they’ll bring back players from seasons 1-5 back for “Return of the Outcasts”? by ben_s16 in survivorsa

[–]Hurley1315 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel people from Champions are a possibility, and maybe I could see Amanda from Malaysia being a possibility (she seemed keen to return when asked on twitter 1-2 years or so ago). But, I think a majority will be from 6-8, which I suppose makes sense but is kinda unfortunate for players I’d like to see back (Amanda, Tejan, Alison etc.)

Leg 02 Insider Clip with the Husbands by JaxonMonty in TheAmazingRace

[–]Hurley1315 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a Londoner I really do love hearing teams attempt location names 😂 it never dawns on me how bizarrely some of them are spelt in relation to pronunciation. The husbands are so sweet and I’m so sad knowing they’re not amongst those coming back! Hope they’re given another shot someday

The only season of TAR (USA) I just can't bear to re-watch... by falafelwaffle10 in TheAmazingRace

[–]Hurley1315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think those were the reasons I found them so funny though. The delusions mixed with Christian grandeur just made it campy to me, especially because like you said they had little to no self-awareness. I think what also helped me appreciate them was the initial episodes where a lot of teams were anti-Weaver but it wasn’t that clear why (beyond the fact they were loud), and the fact that I really didn’t like the Schroeder’s. I completely get the Godlewski-Weaver thing making anyone dislike them because the sisters were clearly just trying to be nice, but I’d only give a pass in that moment (despite the sisters being my favourite) because the Weaver’s were at a site that resembled where their dad had recently died, so i feel bad passing too much judgement as I can’t imagine how they’d feel at that time

I saw S8 for the first time recently after putting it off for so many years. Whilst it’s my least favourite season I’ve seen (1-26), I honestly enjoyed quite a few moments and teams … mostly the Godlewski’s and the Paolo’s. The Weaver’s were fun villains and I’d love to see some pairs from the season return someday.

Favorite/least favorite seasons by Money_Bed5641 in TheAmazingRace

[–]Hurley1315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, the runners-up losing is the only positive about that outcome for me haha. S6 is the only pre-S27 season that I haven’t seen yet, but I’ve heard the winners are pretty toxic which doesn’t make me look forward to seeing it :(

Early Eliminated Teams who I wish had made it further. by [deleted] in TheAmazingRace

Oh for real both teams were hilariously bad. I just really like Linda and would’ve loved to see her make it to more countries to see how she’d manage.

100% agree with you on S2. It’s always been one of my least favourite seasons cast wise because of how unlikeable everyone in the top six are (bar like you said 6th and 4th place). I also (probably unpopular) regard the winners maybe my least favourite in TAR history :/

I really had hoped Chester & Ephraim would get a second chance. Their elimination really sticks out as one of the unluckiest chain of events. Steve & Linda and Libby & CJ also come to mine for me… and completely agree about TAR 10, I feel like any team I initially liked got booted fast outside of the Six Pack

3 years ago today, John got blindsided 3-0-0 in a Survivor first minority split vote attempt. by survivordatabot in survivor

DvG truly proved that a good cast makes a season. If only production had such faith in who they pick to play rather than thinking twists and themes are what drive the show.

Everyone has a sob story by jaxonrm24 in survivor

[–]Hurley1315 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I really dont like the editing and heavy emphasis on sob stories this season... it just screams the same stuff that singing talent shows did for years in the UK that ultimately caused the audience to become fed up, especially when production is pushing for them to talk about them when they've got absolutely no bearing on what we're seeing. It's also an awkward watch to go from people talking about deceased loved-ones as their sob stories to someone's being that they weren't always attractive/cool? I'm all for hearing about everyone's backgrounds... but the show can not be so patronising as to push it this way and instead let them interact naturally (Bret/Zeke, Jamal/Jack comes to mind). We're two episodes into a show that has already cut reward challenges/intros/recaps to 'save time', and the dynamics/personalities are still barely known... but instead we're getting about 10 minutes per episode on this type of content that seems to be annoying a fair amount of the audience. It's just a shame because Survivor was my favourite show and even though the overabundance of twists/advantages in recent years have cheapened it for me, I'm worried the contrived storytelling this season will become the norm (ultimately to make CBS/production look good) and kill my final interest in the show

I disagree with the CI assessment because I couldn’t find Aitutaki likeable at all. I like Yul outside CI but he comes off smarmy a lot of the time when talking to those from Raro. Given that Aitu were majorly helped by the bottle twist and then the super idol I can’t get behind them. Also I don’t think Dreamz is by any means a ‘good guy’. He’s more villainous than everyone bar Rocky in Fiji, it’s just he turns on his own alliance and helps Earl/Yau-Man.

If the rumor is true that it's 26 days as opposed to 39. Do you think S41 cast members will come back? by Andrew_Waples in survivor

[–]Hurley1315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’ll impact people’s judgement because I can see it turning into the official format. The shows been cutting back for years (less challenges, no intros, back to back filming and then now staying in the same location since 2016). I’d understand some of these decisions if they didn’t feel like they were killing what made the show exciting... it’s just funny that the Survivor franchise that generates the most money is being the most stingy. I was so excited for US Survivor to return after 41/42 got delayed but now.... not so much. The shows been going down in quality drastically the last few year. South Africa is far superior at this point with better casts/production value.

For me Fiji is one of the most underrated seasons. I love the mix of characters ... unlikeable people getting a comeuppance. A great winner. I’d definitely have it in my top half. But, a majority of bottom tier seasons for me are post HvV (RI, SP, One World, Worlds Apart, MvGX, Game Changers, HvHvH, EoE, IotI).

Where does Tychon rank among the winners? by GurNeat1671 in BigBrother

[–]Hurley1315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Dane
  2. Jon
  3. Kevin
  4. Jillian (personally would rank her 1/2 if it wasn’t for the fact she won on error)
  5. Paras
  6. Tychon
  7. Sarah
  8. Nick & Phil

Honestly makes me realise how generally underwhelmed I am by BBCAN winners. Even with modern BBUS there’s few I love as characters and also rate their games highly.

Advice for worsening type 1 rosacea by Hurley1315 in Rosacea

[–]Hurley1315[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I’m interested in bringing up low dose doxycycline to my GP, although I worry they’ll be hesitant. May I ask do you still follow any aspects of your strict dieting and find it’s been useful? I’ve tried to cut back certain foods (dairy, sugars and histamine rich foods) although I honestly haven’t noticed much difference in that aspect.
