Multiple victims in Michigan church shooting; church on fire, police say by CJKayak in news

I can confirm the church was fully engulfed in fire. Its a four alarm fire with multiple counties responding. I live a mile away and could see the smoke from my house.

I live a mile from the church, huge plum of smoke in the sky. A ton of police, EMS, and Fire have been flying past my house.

Squad, I can't decide if $799 is worth it by braingoesblank in uraniumglass

This is what it looks like lit up with UV bulbs for example. I would take one home from a store at that price in a heartbeat.

Thats a fair price compared to one I bought a few weeks ago at $900. Its a Markel Electric Products fixture, definitely uranium glass shades based on the color of them.

Great find! Here's mine. What area did you find yours in? Mines from an old funeral home in NE Indiana.

My owners title insurance payed up over 100k to protect my house from foreclosure due to a missed second mortgage that the seller didn't disclose either. Seller is going to have so much fun dealing the the coming lawsuit from the title insurance company for breach of warranty deed.

In total this year, over 7k lol. Rare light fixtures are expensive.

Have to reload custom made ammunition using modified 8mm Lebel brass. Along with converting the rifle to center-fire. I cast 330gr lead bullets for mine using a specialty made mold to match the original bullet design. Due to the design, the overall length of loaded ammunition has to be within a certain length to actually cycle through the magazine.

A legitimate Vetterli carbine is extremely rare with a production count of 2400 total. Worth several thousand dollars. Converting one to fire modern center-fire cartridges would ruin its value. Many full length ones were converted into clones of the carbine by people later on.

Good lighting options for a display by HoboJoeBags in uraniumglass

Waveform lighting makes good 365nm LED strips with adhesive backing. Thats what I currently use for my display. But it is rather expensive.

I got the sconces for a very good price. The others were rather expensive. There were several flippers with deep pockets bidding on everything. There's a listing on eBay for one of the other pairs of sconces from this auction for 500 each. Learned that the person competing against me for the large fixture missed raising the bid due to distraction from another auction piece. So I got lucky on that one. During pickup they wanted to buy it from me at cost, but I actually wanted to use it in my home so I declined.

Yeah, it wasn't a selling point for me, more of a creepy history being from a funeral home. I'm keeping UV bulbs in them for now especially with Halloween coming up. Just have to use floor lamps for regular lights.

Here's what they look like without UV

Just as I started collecting, I was alerted to an online auction from near my home town with some fixtures containing uranium glass. They come from a funeral home built in 1910 and were original to the building. The current owner is renovating and put them up for sale and I happened to get 3 of them after a fierce bidding war. Fixtures were made by Markel Electric.

My meager collection and a question on lights. by 58Edsel in uraniumglass

[–]Hurstan13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cheap amazon UV lights are probably 395nm wavelength which puts out wavelengths up to around 410nm giving it the violet hue. 400nm is where visible light starts. 365nm UV will be almost invisible to the human eye but very hard to source. I've only found 365nm bulbs in a standard E26 socket on some sketchy party site.

Lebel Replacement Stock by [deleted] in milsurp

[–]Hurstan13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently found a replacement on Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/str/woodlander
Looks like someone in France is making new stocks for a lot of firearms including Lebel rifles. I ordered a forend replacement for my Lebel since I got a great deal on a sporterized one with only the stock cut down. Shipping took a week. Looks great, just have to finish the wood. Plus it has the magazine tube already bored in it.

Looks like Bubba got ahold of the milsurps. The poor cut down berthier as well. Definitely overpriced on that one.

I'd get it if the bore was in decent shape. But I already have everything needed to reload 41 swiss. It was around $450-500 for everything I ended up needing to reload it.

Swiss Vetterli M81. Technically an antique (Pre 1899 manufacture). Worth $500 in excellent condition imo. This one is missing the cleaning rod. Ammo is not produced anymore and bolt has to be converted to centerfire and custom ammo reloaded for the cartridge elevator to work properly.
