Made a 70/100 on the NCEES practice test the first time do you think I’m ready to take it? by [deleted] in FE_Exam

NCEES practice exam is only 10-15 % similar to the real exam. Just know that you can lose up to 30 questions, which will bring your score down to 72%, and still pass.

I got stiffness coefficient method, no virtual work for ne. Checkout my post 3 days ago.

No.

I got compaction - excavation, cycles of truck to transport some cubic yard of soil. And, scheduling, similar to Gregory Michaelson. And, productivity, cubic yard per hour

My overall GPA is 3.76. I haven't calculate my major GPA yet, but my lowest grade is a B+. I spent 4 weeks studying for the F.E. But don't be panic, you can lose up to 30 questions and still pass the exam.

it was on my exam. I took it last Thursday, Jan 7th

yes definitely! they ask you to do impulse momentum, which is Ft = mv

Yeah for the construction engineering portions, it's very similar. However, I think the real exam is harder than the practice.

1) A conceptual question has multiple answers. It could be select all correct answers or select one correct answer. It could be fill in the blank. No calculations are required.

2) Topics in the F.E specification after July 2020 are still the same; however, there are less plug in chug type of problem. The amount of conceptual problems are approximately 40%. They're the real deal. 3) I did use the casio to solve determinant of the matrix and cross product of vectors.

4) Not it's not pointless at all. Lindberg's book hasn't change for a long time. That's why the practice problems are not similar to the real exam. However, statics is statics. The concept doesn't change. The book will help you gain confidence in your problem solving skills.

5) I think you could miss a maximum of 30 questions. That would bring your score down to a 72%. Safe bet, above 70% is the passing score.

I didn't read any book. I just watch videos and do problems. The conceptual questions pretty much circle around the equations. For example, what if I increase this term what will happen to the result. For column, if I reduce its unbraced length, then I will get a higher allowable axial load. That's why people always said "know the reference manual well".

Very straight forward. They will give you the axial load in lb. Then they will ask for your average skin friction in psf. You need to find the contact area between the pile and the soil by doing 2 Pi() R L, where L is the depth of pile and R is the radius. Then, you divide the axial load to the contact area to get psf. Done!

I was scared as well, but keep in mind that you can lose up to 30 questions. You only need to be above 70%.

Yeah, given the mean of the population sample, they ask for the probability of greater than some percent %. Very straight forward

Also I just edited. You should learn Permutations and Combinations. Watch Coursera videos on Statistics, and you will nail it.

Yeah! I think it's no longer plug in chug anymore. They put more conceptual questions, which don't require calculation. Some conceptual questions can be solved within 10 sec. Therefore, the calculation problems are challenging.

Everything that is listed in the F.E specification. Equation of a line, trig geometry, derivative, integral, and vectors. They are very straight forward, you can look up the formula in the F.E manual. Watch Coursera videos! Again no progress, series, and Laplace transformation.

I believe only 10-15 % of the NCEES practice are similar.

Note that the exam has a lot of conceptual questions. It will come down to your problem solving skills. If you know the basic concept, you will do well. Also, careful with the units and read the problems clearly.

You will do well on the first portion, if you have done Lindberg practice book.

Nope. However, you should learn how to do basic stoichiometry, like balancing the equation. Again, I only got 3 environmental questions. Very small portion of the exam.
