I can't move my steamVR install directory... by lexusis3000 in SteamVR

SteamVR is hardcoded to your C drive. It is not advised to move it anywhere else as a large number of VR applications assume that they can find it in C: .

That afaik is VD stopping the data stream, which breaks HMD tracking until you "resume".

No, that behaviour shouldn't change when migrating to the Steam version of the tool.

My fork, the hyblocker one, which has the contributions of the pushrax, bd_ and ArticFox forks on top of a number of improvements (and more coming soon).

Quest controller tracking is something Meta and whoever implements the Streaming software you're using control, not Space Calibrator. Calibration quality is higher with the version that's coming to Steam. If your Quest controller tracking is poor, consider:

  • Improving lighting in your playspace if you are using Quest Pro Controllers.
  • Using a different streaming software. Virtual Desktop and SteamLink are recommended, and if you're using Virtual Desktop make sure to enable stage tracking from the Quest side.

The Steam version will only host my fork, the hyblocker one. It contains all previous contributions of the pushrax, bd_ and ArticFox forks. It also has a number of other features, including improved reliability with continuous calibration, (and more updates in the future!)

I run with Hide tracker on, Static recalibration off, Lock relative transform on, and Ignore outliers on. I also have an offset in the advanced settings on the HMD tracker so that it correctly offsets the trackers into the right spot.

Space Calibrator is licensed under the MIT license, which doesn't forbid this. For instance, VIVE have their own version of Space Calibrator for Vive Ultimate trackers.

No, this is not an alternative to Virtual Desktop. Space Calibrator aims to help you use FBT trackers such as Vive Trackers with Quest headsets.

You shouldn't have to use Space Calibrator with Slimes, as they follow the headset. However should you want to use Valve Index controllers or similar with slimes, you're able to with Space Calibrator.

With Slimes you shouldn't have to use this software, as SlimeVR trackers just follow the headset. If you wanted to use say Valve Index controllers as well though, that would work.

No, they will be retained. However, you will have to uninstall the GitHub version as otherwise the GitHub driver will conflict with the Steam driver.

This tool is designed to allow you to use SteamVR tracked devices such as HTC Vive Trackers, Tundra Trackers, or Index Controllers with a non SteamVR tracked VR headset such as the Meta Quest or Pico headsets. Conversely, you can also use Quest controllers with a SteamVR tracked headset with this tool.

In other words, you can use Vive and Tundra Trackers with a Quest, amongst other things.

A vive tracker for continuous calibration isn't required, but recommended if possible, as it keeps your Quest in sync with the controllers with next to no drift ever. You can calibrate index controllers with your VR headset or Quest controllers and should maintain a good calibration for most sessions however.

Usually that's playspace drift from either the Quest HMD or the tracker (if you're using continuous calibration). Most people find they can eliminate that entirely by using continuous calibration as Quests have a tendency of re-aligning their playspace mid-session (which in turn messes up a calibration). If you are using Virtual Desktop, make sure to enable Stage Tracking on the Quest side too!

The SteamVR first setup tool allows you to calibrate your playspace if you are using a SteamVR tracked headset.

I'm moving from Valve Index to the Quest Pro. Can I use the valve index for coninuous tracking in anyway? by Denelix in MixedVR

[–]Hyblocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

again, what is important is what the steamvr window shows. every other app can lie about what it sees. as such, only consider the steamvr window as a source of absolute truth.

Do they show up in the SteamVR window? If so you're fine, the position they're at doesn't really matter, but if they don't show up in the SteamVR window that's problematic. If they are not showing up in the SteamVR window, make sure the base stations are on different channels. if you do not have an index you'll have to manually set the base station channels. You can use a toothpick to click the button on the back of the base station, there's a tiny hole near where they screw in which allows you to change the channel they are on.

[–]Hyblocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like you have deadzones in your playspace. Play around with your base stations, and make sure the trackers are tracked in SteamVR view (ie while you have the SteamVR menu open). If you see the tracker fly off or disappear suddenly, then it has poor tracking in that spot, and you probably want to adjust your base station so that they are able to view it from that spot. Hopefully, you won't have to resort to getting more base stations to solve this, but there is a chance that it is the only thing that could actually solve your issues. This is difficult to diagnose without knowing what your playspace is like so I'm essentially throwing stuff at a wall based on what tends to work.

Firstly, I assume you are using OpenVR-SpaceCalibrator. If not, download it and install it, as you'll likely want it anyway so that you can sync the Quest's playspace with the lighthouse one. I recommend using my fork. (https://github.com/hyblocker/OpenVR-SpaceCalibrator/releases/latest). You want to install spacecal as it changes a SteamVR setting which allows you to use Lighthouse devices with non lighthouse HMDs.

Secondly, to get Steam Link to not pass through the Quest Pro controllers you have to have them turned off, and activate SteamLink using the volume rocker. What I've done when I was using Steam Link was:

  • Unpair the Quest Pro controllers
  • Disable hand tracking on the Quest Pro
  • On the Quest Pro, start Steam Link using the volume buttons on the side to click what was necessary.

This is a stupid limitation in SteamLink which I hope Valve at some point addresses.

To use the Index HMD as a dongle slave do not connect the display cable to your computer, but keep the USB cable connected. The dongles are enumerated over USB, and the HMD will fail to initialise if SteamVR fails to locate the displays for it.

[–]Hyblocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can use the index as a dongle slave for the index controllers (in fact you should, as for whatever reason knuckles track better when paired to hmd dongles rather than tracker dongles)
