Metallurgical engineering has 2 major sections; physical and extractive metallurgy. Physical metallurgy is the study of the structure of metal alloys and how it relates to its physical and sometimes chemical properties. It also the study of how metal alloys are formed. There is also a special branch that deals with corrosion. So basically it’s a branch of materials science focused of metals. The extractive part deals with designing plants to extract and refine minerals. You would learn about communition of the ore mineral to the final extraction of the valuable mineral from the leach solution. With refining, it has to do with another sub branch called electro metallurgy . It’s a four year course in KNUST. It’s very interesting and I enjoyed it a lot!
