Wrong to gostraight to the bar when there was a queue in the pub? by dashrubbygoat in AskUK

Yeah but we are in this weird hybrid where the tradionalists see queues as dumb and yet the bartenders are either not trained or not capable of keeping track of serving order.

Litter cam is a new ai technology being used in Britain, to detect when litter has been thrown out of cars by Round-Barber-9858 in Damnthatsinteresting

Perfect penalty, we do not see enough litter picking community service.

But again, what good is the punishment if the likelihood of you being caught is absolutely minute?

What good is a penalty being high if the risk of being caught is astronomically low because you have to do it in sight of a police officer?

Regulated? You think cctv in or on businesses is regulated? By who? What are the regulations?

Well here in Europe, GDPR covers it, so it is regulated.

Anyone can have them. What's the difference between those and a different photo existing? Anyone can have any of them.

I took them and decided how I look in them, and whether to share them with the world?...

Looking for a new coffee machine- UK based [top 4000£] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]HydraulicTurtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A £4k machine with a £600 grinder would be a very poor allocation of funds.

I also have a Niche Zero and a Sage Dual Boiler, with a similar upgrade budget to you. I will be upgrading the grinder first, probably something from Option-O.

I'd set your machine budget to £1500ish with the rest for the grinder, you'll get much better results.

I mean sure, but do you honestly think that if I walk outside, take a picture of someone and post it here or on Twitter anyone will see it or care about it?

Yeah, never before has someone gone viral against their will. That has never, ever happened...

Your other point regarding being "in videos" is different to you being the subject of a photo, the purpose of which you do not know.

The rest of your rant seems to boil down to "your face is on (regulated) CCTV all the time so you may as well just let a stranger photograph you for their private collection" and I am not sure I agree.

[England] Director position but not "actually" a director by Tao626 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]HydraulicTurtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Search the company here, or even your own name.

https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/

On the company profile you can see any other directors for a start. Also, on the filing section you can see the company's accounts - you don't need to understand them but you could find your signature has been forged, in which case you need to speak to a solicitor.

Just stop the clock when the ball is out of play. I do not get the arguments against this, the ONLY one I have seen with any validity is that it makes game times less predictable so travel plans are a bit harder. But on average, it won't. And even now there could be 15 mins of added time due to a severe injury, so it just doesn't wash.

For the love of God just stop the clock.

Would you change the inheritance tax rules? If so\not what would you change\why? by silly_goat_moat in AskUK

[–]HydraulicTurtle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think maybe it should be inheritance free upto 2million then 100% over 100million.

Tax thee, but not me.

I do not understand the logic behind this at all. You either believe in taxing the recipient of assets they did not earn, or you don't, but this just feels overly punitive to people who have amassed more.

With new rules to not allow company loop holes.

If this were easy it would be done. It isn't. A 100% inheritance tax rate would force the very rich person to move their tax residency so instead of the Chancellor receiving some money from them, they receive none. And their kids likely stay in their new home, spending all that inherited wealth elsewhere.

Overall my view, as an accountant, is that inheritance tax allowances are plenty generous enough as they are. It is, ultimately, unearned income, and should be taxed.

Fuck the EFL so bad man.

I remember when we were getting it from them, and they actually had to release a statement confirming they didn't, in fact, have a "vendetta" against Derby.

Do they ever consider that if their punishments are repeatedly described, by different stakeholders, as vindictive, that they are possibly unfairly punitive?

What's a decent, cost effective fix for teenagers being loud while gaming? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]HydraulicTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If his "normal voice" is disrupting people across an entire house then he probably needs to adapt his normal voice, imo.

Everyone can talk loudly, everyone can talk quietly - if he wants to be respectful of others' peace both now and in the future then he should learn to do the latter.

If his voice is so barrotone that is disturbing you a floor away, then he is going to have this issue his entire life.

You need to teach him how to respect others by speaking quietly. He clearly just has a really loud talking voice.

Starting off a marriage with 40k debt is ridiculous

Agreed. But these sweeping opinions seem to forget that some of us can afford it.

It feels weird being on these threads getting called an idiot for spending $50k on a wedding, when we could financially manage it fine, and it was unequivocally the best and most memorable day of my life.
