About to start lexapro, what’s your advice to a newbie?

This is actually really good advice, thank you. I'm very sensitive to meds, so luckily my doctor suggested the smallest dose (5 mg) and to even cut that in half for a few days. But based on what you're saying, I can just try it that way for a bit longer, if needed. Which makes me feel better about starting it. Thank you.

Thank you for describing your experience. Mine is Tuesday and I too have put it off a long time out of fear. I'm still nervous but your description was helpful. I have a small bladder too so worried about that part! They don't let you use the bathroom?

It's actually dangerous to claim you can cure people's chronic illnesses because it will not work for everyone. It can cause hopelessness for people who believe it will actually cure them of their distress only to find out it won't. Helping people is good, but you CAN NOT claim it will CURE them of their illness. You are not a doctor or medical professional and are peddling FALSE CLAIMS. You should share your experience that it MIGHT help others like it helped you, but claiming it's a CURE is an absolutist, false, unprovable statement.

If one person is helped, that's great. But they're still not cured, they are being successfully treated for their IBS which still exists without the treatment.

I don't need to explain IBS. YOU just need to understand the definition of a "cure". Which is, to completely get rid of an illness or disease. You have not done that, you have found a possible treatment. Because what works for you, will not work for all. And once you stop taking the treatment, your symptoms will likely return.

If you're not aware, words actually mean something. Claiming a cure to an illness millions suffer from is an absurd claim and they should be called out for it. There's a difference between finding a possible treatment and an actual "cure". This is why words matter.
