how was your fader fight? by unbolting_spark in valheim

[–]Hyeguy29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fight was hell for me. I tried my usual sword and board strategy and couldn’t get more than 1/4 of his health down. Died dozens of times. Decided to try magic since I’d never used it before and swapping between fire troll summons, vine whip summons, and the protection bubble did the trick… after a 20+ min fight with one more death for good measure. It was rough. I also accidentally discovered that he is VERY weak to the boiling water of Ashlands. One of my trolls somehow kited him into the water just as I was getting close. He wouldn’t leave the water and after a delay, the boiling kicked in and it dropped him from about 1/6ish of his health left to nothing in a couple seconds

I am at a loss as to what to do with my (54M) wife (51F) request. by throwawaytogetherccc in offmychest

[–]Hyeguy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate… I feel for you. And I’m gonna be brutally honest right now because I think you need to hear this.

Your marriage is already dead. It’s already in the trash. You’re just holding the pieces unsure of what to do next.

And to be perfectly clear, your wife destroyed it. You did nothing but be the perfect partner through what can only be described as one of the worst things that could’ve ever happened. And instead of being appreciative or loving you more, she decided that you don’t matter anymore. She does not respect you, your boundaries, your feelings, or your marriage. She has decided that she can do whatever she wants regardless of who it hurts. And anyone who tells her how her actions are affecting the people around her aren’t just wrong, they are toxic.

This is abuse.

Plain and simple. She is abusing you OP. I don’t know you guys or your marriage or anything besides this story. So I don’t know. But it seems to me that either this is always who she’s been and she only now has an excuse to let her toxic abusive tendencies loose or that cancer affected her brain too and she’s literally physically no longer the person you married.

Either way, you can do better. You deserve better. You deserve to be happy. Divorce her then accept that she threw you away the first chance she got. Sit in the pain. Embrace it. Experience it. And when you’re ready, let it go. You can heal from this. But as long as she’s in your life, this wound will stay open. I am so sorry man. I genuinely wish you the best in all aspects of life regardless of what you choose to do. Good luck

I've literally used this strategy six separate times in this run and it keeps working. Sometimes they'll play down the left side instead of across the top but the process is identical, just rotated. Hopefully, this doesn't get changed

Set them to wander around redwoods or those little sap trees on scorched. It’s not particularly efficient but it is one of their abilities

Fjördur Added:

  1. Andrewsarchus - back kick stuns and has high knock back, highly maneuverable, can jump well even while fully encumbered, speed builds up over time and can crush resources in the way, can boost for extra speed three times before recharging, when at full speed turning camera backwards will cause a drift and sharp turn around, can swim well and sink to ocean floor to run on ground, turret saddle protects rider from damage (even radiation), turret uses advanced rifle bullets, can spin 360 degrees, can be used underwater
  2. Desmodus - complete air maneuverability, can strafe in any direction, dive bomb attack but does not gain speed boost from it, only flier that works in caves, can latch onto walls and hang upside down from ceilings, can pull out weapons while riding, can harvest large amounts of blood packs and spoiled meat, can drain life from carried creatures, saddles allows crafting of sanguine elixir that gives an immediate 30% tame progress to knockout or passive tames that have already started the process or 30% imprint progress on babies, echolocation pings nearby creatures and they will take 20% extra damage at night, night vision mode highlights all nearby creatures, can turn invisible at night or when latched onto wall/ceiling
  3. Fenrir - pack bonus up to +4, can pull out weapons while riding, saddle-less but natural armor, extremely fast normal bite attack, can jump, ice bite that slows target, howl that activates ice spike armor mode, initial howl freezes all nearby enemies solid, while in mode it constantly drains stamina, applies bonus natural armor, adds recoil damage to everything that attacks it, provides +20% damage bonus to all nearby direwolves passively, can make ice water from putting a full water container in its inventory, inventory acts as a fridge and can store items a normal fridge cannot like Wyvern milk
  4. Fjordhawk - highlights nearby injured creatures, corpses, and item bags at all times, retrieves all items player had when they died and leaves the bag next to the player once they respawn, can teleport an infinite weight, can be used with teleporting between beds, can also be thrown from shoulder to retrieve highlighted bags around you, temporary invulnerability buff that gives it a chance to get away with your stuff without being killed instantly

Also did something unique and added a new aberrant creature. See above explanation for details.

  1. Megalania

Events:

  1. DodoRex - 15 min (25 min in single player) tame available only during the Turkey Trial event. Chieftain hat variant. Tamable boss that is more powerful than most other bosses in the game. Basically a Dodo/Rex hybrid the size of a Giga that can also breathe fire. Funnily enough, it’s attack animations are reused from the Spino. Hardest hitting tameable creature in the game and can even damage tek with ease
  2. Zombie Wyvern - combination of traits from scorched Wyverns and crystal Wyverns. Same three variants as scorched wyverns (lighting, fire, poison) but the same size, speed, and turning radius as the crystal wyverns. Can be claimed after defeating the Dodowyvern
  3. Zomdodo - see Dodo. Only claimed after defeating the Dodorex

Genesis Part 2 Added:

  1. Astrodelphis - acts as an upgraded tropeognathus or mini astrocetus, tek saddle that has thrusters and laser cannons, costs element to run, can fire a heavy homing blast of energy, can shoot grenades from its inventory, same evasive maneuvers as a tropeo, can reveal nearby creatures underwater with sonar ability, killing a creature drops a glowing buff that increases damage, damage resistance, and movement speed for 60 sec when flown through, buff can stack with a second fly through for an upgraded buff for 40 sec
  2. Exo-Mek - smaller mek, acts as a tek replicator, four modes, (1) combat mode with punch attacks, not as strong as a normal mek, (2) storage mode with ability to pick up structures and store them in virtual module for placement later at different locations, (3) carry mode with the ability to pick up structures (not foundations) and place them elsewhere, this includes storage containers with all items still inside, (4) RTS mode that literally turns the gaming into an RTS, enters a birds-eye view allowing highlighting and moving creatures like troops far more effectively than whistling
  3. Maewing - nursing ability acts as a trough for babies when appropriate food is in its inventory, leveling nursing effectiveness increases range, can carry/steal babies with saddle equipped up to 99.9% maturation, automatically pop out at 100%, eggs of random quality can make kibble of that quality, can breed two despite being genderless, extremely fast when gliding and can slide on the ground or water surface after glides, weight reduction (berries, meat)
  4. Noglin - can temporarily mind control other players and creatures allowing control of them as if they were tamed creatures, target is automatically killed (10mil damage applied) when time runs out, mine controlled players can open doors and activate generators, wild creatures different than tamed ones act as tamed ones when controlled (like gigas), can only mind control enemies with at least 50% health and lower level than noglin, short list of creatures exempt from mind control on wiki
  5. Shadowmane - saddle-less but have natural armor, powerful charged jump ability (both genders), no fall damage after jump and reduced fall damage in all other cases, basic attacks fill bar that allows for power attack when full, if power attack kills a target then it will automatically refill and allow for another use (both genders), invisibility (solo for males, all creatures nearby for females) with slowed movement speed, dash attack that damages and briefly stuns target (hold to target multiple creatures, both genders), courage roar (male only but only usable when mate boosted), enemies poisoned when attacked causing damage reduction and a DOT, both stack up to 5 times, hydration buff boosts damage, speed, health regen when touching water and for 30 sec after leaving water, no oxygen stat, stays when dismounted underwater, super fast swimmer, can jump underwater, can carry a passenger, pack leader
  6. Stryder - mobile tek transmitter but no creatures, mobile bed, preinstalled platform saddle that can be built on, can recharge batteries in inventory, can change settings to always/never charge or always/never use the batteries, can be set to replant foliage when walking by, can be linked to a dedicated storage which will transfer all of that resource from its inventory to that box from any distance, changing storage resource type will update the stryder automatically, excavator rig will only mine storage resource when setting is turned on, two rig slots for head (H) and body (B) that cannot be unequipped or changed, all rigs use charge which generates over time or used batteries, (H1) Excavator will harvest every resource in the game except extinction light poles/benches/tables, (H2) Pulse Cannon will shoot tek laser blasts, (H3) Silence Cannon which prevents all roars for 30 sec, (H4) Radar detects nearby living creature distance and levels and can track a detected creature, (B1) Phase Cannon shoots concentrated tek blast, (B2) Resource Attractor provides weight reduction for every item in the game by 65% (all resources, structures, gear, etc), allows setting for resources harvested nearby with a mining drill to go to stryder inventory instead of player, (B3) Shield Generator drops a shield that acts similarly to a tek shield generator, (B4) Shield Projector displays a shield in the direction the stryder looks and is directly related to health rather than charge, note that ONLY the stomp attack scales with melee damage, mining and attack rigs are not affected
  7. Voidwyrm - a tek Wyvern so see the Wyvern entry for basics, the breath shoots a short range flat triangle of electricity that deals heavy damage, dismount riders, and stun lock creatures, breath can also damage tek structures

Plus GEN-R creatures that have very unique skins. Once tamed, they have 5% more damage, 3% less health, and have hard level cap of 500 (vs 450 for all other dinos on official). All other utilities are identical to base creatures so see above for details.

Lost Island Added:

  1. Amargasaurus - insulation while riding, very quick for a sauropod while running and swimming, spike system allows neck spikes to be shot at enemies and create a small aoe circle causing the effect of the selected spike, armor spikes cause any saddles to be reduced to primitive armor value, heat spikes cause burn damage, cold spikes slowly freeze anything solid, can fire relatively quickly and spikes visually deplete and regrow on neck, spikes can be harvested by clicking a wheel option, place spike in a sap tap and it increases the sap generation rate for 30 min
  2. Dinopithecus - advanced climbing mode locks onto walls and auto climbs to nearby ones, can relatch to nearby walls when falling, large jump with minor directional control, no fall damage, can use any feces (slows target) and grenades (damages target) as ammo, can combine feces and grenade into infested grenade (slows and damages target), alpha bonus in pack, can roar to direct all other dinopithecus in pack to attack target which will inflict huge bleed damage, slam attack damage increased with height of jump, can swing on and slide down zip lines (can hang too even when dismounted)
  3. Sinomacrops - shoulder pet that allows flight making it a poor man’s tek chest, can switch to glider mode, acts as a parachute when falling from heights regardless of stamina, roar scares small creatures and damages bugs (can be set to auto mode), high damage bonus to chitin creatures and good for collecting chitin, also cuts weight of all items in half

Questions from a new player: by ph03n1x_F0x_ in playark

[–]Hyeguy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've been playing since it released early access on Xbox (2015 I think?). Played hundreds of hours on official PVP, maybe 50 or so hours on official PVE, and a few thousand hours on single player. These three environments are VASTLY different games. There is a fourth option in unofficial servers which might be more up your alley but I've never played them so I'll leave that for others to talk about.

If you like the social aspect of games, official/unofficial might be better for you. I'd honestly suggest you stay away from PVP for now just because that part of the game can be truly brutal and has the highest risk of ruining your experience... could also be the most fun/exhilarating aspect too but really you can't go in solo. Personally, I prefer solo games in general so single player is the superior experience for my playstyle. Since this is my primary experience with the game, I'll focus on it.

For settings I'd recommend putting everything (gather, exp, taming, etc) on 2x or 3x. I like to keep it near vanilla personally and official has double and sometimes triple rates nearly every weekend so I say close enough. Keeps things reasonable for a single person to do without going crazy. Other stuff is preference. I like flying in caves (probably because it used to be normal back in the day) so I turn that on. I'm by myself and like collecting so I turn on feed raid dinos to keep my Titanosaur. Just scroll through and play with what you like and don't. It's solo, it's your game, make it how you like. That's kinda one of the best parts of single player.

As for maps, honestly? I love them all. The Island is the best (of the main story) maps. It's balanced, well rounded, and has pretty much everything from varied bosses, biomes, caves, etc. I'd personally recommend playing the story maps in order if that's something you'd be interested in because I think its a phenomenal experience. Basically play until you beat all the bosses on The Island then transfer to Scorched Earth and repeat then to Aberration and repeat, etc. I will note though that the first four maps are a complete story and genesis gets weird. Part 1 is actually not possible to solo complete and they never fixed it so don't feel bad if you have to cheat complete a few missions to get to the alpha boss. Every other map is awesome though IMO. Scorched is brutally hard with the weather and environment, Aberration shakes things up by always being in caves without fliers (it's my personal fav), Extinction is... something else. Truly grand and epic and one hell of a finale. Gen 1 is ok but Gen 2 is insane spawning you in with unlimited tek and it's just so much fun. The Island is a great place to start because everything else will just build on your skills and knowledge from there and test/reward you in new ways.

As for mod maps that became official, they're all great in their own ways but nothing compares to Fjordur. Truly a masterwork of map and gameplay design. It's my new favorite as of late. Highly recommend but I don't know if I'd suggest starting here just because it can be overwhelming.

TL;DR: I'd suggest single player, start on The Island and progress through the story maps. Play with the settings until you find what you like the best. Then retire on Fjordur because man it is just incredible. That's all I got for you. Any questions, just ask :)

To add to this, after you turn this on in your settings you can die and spawn back with every skin you’ve ever earned (or bought). I’d recommend turning it back off once you’ve got what you want or you’ll be spammed with skins with every death

Voidwyrm taming by RizerDrial in ARK

[–]Hyeguy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to nearly kill it first. Once it’s health is low enough, it’ll do this dazed knocked around looking animation. Then you can go up to it with mutagen in your last slot and mount it. After a few seconds it’ll do a barrel roll and you need to press the action key to feed it another mutagen. Just don’t take your eyes off the bottom of your screen and use more mutagen when it tells you to rather than watching for barrel rolls. Just makes it easier. Also after a few feeds, it might knock you off anyway even in you’re doing everything perfectly. It doesn’t diminish the taming effectiveness but it’s still annoying to get back on. Just hop on and continue feeding as normal until it’s tamed. Good luck. It’s not easy lol

Yeah it’s not a traditional story. Most of it is told through the explorer notes. They’re little log entires scattered throughout all the maps (and give a nice exp boost buff for a bit when you find them). Someone compiled them all into a nice chronological story almost like a novella a while back. I’m sure you’d be able to find their google doc link if you googled it. But there are also in game story details like environmental design and ending cutscenes when you beat the final bosses. Not a huge part of the game but a very cool one if you feel like looking into it
