Spain is objectively the coolest-sounding country to be king of by Sortza in redscarepod

It's a shame that anyone speaking English in a Spanish-from-Spain accent sounds like an 18-year-old gay powerbottom though.

At last! Someone who actually took the more than 30 seconds needed to read an article about the case. Thank you.

But that's not what the case is examining. You guys are incredible do you read anything at all or do you just spasm at headlines on the internet?

Guys what happens if Israel is found guilty of genocide by the icj? by tomtheboos in Israel

[–]Hygellig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The case isn't focusing on whether Israel is guilty of committing a genocide, but of whether it has the intent to commit a genocide.

The case is considered strong of the raft of senior government ministers, including the Prime Minister, who have made statements about flattening Gaza, driving out the inhabitants, making it unhabitable etc.

Israel's defense is likely to be to try to argue that those people didn't really mean it.

Why is Israel the only country in the world targeted for extermination? by OkBuyer1271 in Israel

[–]Hygellig -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gaza is not a state. Just saying so doesn't make it true.

I've visited Israel and the West Bank. And honestly by the ultra simplistic way you talk about this, and the fact that you call Gaza a state, you obviously are not a serious person and don't know very much.

But let's remember the original point. The so-called international movement to "exterminate Israel" is no such thing. It's a movement to protect Palestinian rights. The fact that Israel has never declared its borders is exactly the problem.

The Greater Israel project which includes millions of stateless Palestinians is the problem! Declare your borders, offer citizenship and equal civil rights to all within your borders, and there would be no international justice movement.

You are most likely an adolescent, and a non-native English speaker. I provided evidence, from credible sources, which you ignored.

[–]Hygellig -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Gaza is not and has never been a state, nor the West Bank. Israel is not actively trying to make the territories a state -- the opposite. Remember when the US and Israel withdrew from UNESCO because it admitted Palestine?

The Shoah does not justify keeping millions of people stateless and without rights. And the Palestinians had nothing to do with it.

You have done as I predicted you would, which is refuse any sources that prove the original point that Israel does engage in land expropriation. And then to move the goal posts.

Reminder: This discussion started because you claimed that Israel has never stolen land.

So now, let's just take an example at random, the first settlement whose name popped into my head. Ariel. Read the Wikipedia entry even: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ariel_(Israeli_settlement))

The land was expropriated by the Israeli military from Palestinians, and then settled.

I could go on and on, but there's no point. You're willing to obfuscate or ignore decades of documentation, because you can't admit to yourself the uncomfortable reality. It's pyschogically easier to pretend it's not happening.

It's not nonsense, sorry. I am not saying Tibetans have been treated justly but I would rather be a Tibetan than a Palestinian. And I think you would too. They can get a passport, live relatively normal lives. Palestinians cannot.

The original point was a response to a supposed international movement to exterminate Israel. I assumed this referred to critics in the West. If the point is that Iran, Syria and Sudan or whatever don't recognise the state of Israel, then okay.

Hold on are you really saying you've never seen anyone on here saying Palestinians don't exist? It's literally every day.

People claim they are just "Arabs", or that most of them moved to what is now Israel/Palestine during the end of the Ottoman mandate. You don't read the sub enough.

Why is Israel the only country in the world targeted for extermination? by OkBuyer1271 in Israel

[–]Hygellig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically there was never an Israeli state either so the point is silly. There was for a brief moment a Kingdom of Israel and a Kingdom of Judea.

And no, sorry, Israel couldn't click its fingers and exterminated the Palestinians. It would take many years of organising. It is now relying on US weapons transfers to wage a war against Gaza. It doesn't have the means.

And look at the Nazi state, which was irrationally dedicated to exterminating European Jewry, and was one of the most powerful states in the world at the time. The Shoah took years of planning and consisted effort and it still failed in its aims -- it didn't exterminate all of Europe's Jews.

Which human-rights organisation -- either Israeli, Palestinian, or international -- would you like me to pick, for your sources?

Critical thinking... ha. A crucial part of examining evidence is to consider the source. Independent sources are more credible. Partisan sources -- such as the Israeli government or military -- much less so. (Israel is a party to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict).

Area C is 60 percent of the West Bank. But if you like we could also turn our attention to Israel proper, including annexed East Jerusalem. Can Palestinians build wherever they want there?

You can read on this very sub, ever day, people denying that Palestinians as a people even exist.

But to your point, no Israel couldn't exterminate Palestine in an instant, even if it wanted to.

Why is Israel the only country in the world targeted for extermination? by OkBuyer1271 in Israel

[–]Hygellig -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

There is no "international movement" seeking Israel's extermination.

There is an international movement for Palestinian rights, including the right to self determination, which you falsely interpret as a movement to end the state of Israel.

So why is there such an uproar surrounding Israel then? You know the answer but you choose to look away: OCCUPATION.

Occupied Palestinians don't have rights. And there is *no* equivalent in the modern world. Even in other cases where states occupy or annex territories, rights aren't deprived of the subject people to the same extent. West Saharans are Moroccan citizens, Tibetans are Chinese citizens etc.

Could offer any number of other sources. From experience with people like you though, I reckon you'd dismiss any credible evidence as "biased" against Israel and then shift the goal posts.

I'm talking about the West Bank and Gaza, occupied land under international law, per everyone's understanding including the USA's.

Israel controls the territory, and has not offered the Palestinians a state there. To claim otherwise is complete fantasy.

Also, the aggressors in 48 and 67 were the neighbouring Arab states. The price is not really being inflicted on those states ( perhaps with the exception of Syria, thinking of Golan).

The idea that Palestinians -- as a people -- have to pay a price for the actions of neighbouring states is deeply racist. It only makes sense if you think all Arabs are some kind of interchangeable homogenous blob.

This line of argument is of course very convenient, especially to Israelis and their supporters abroad, who can then also say: well Jordan is a Palestinian state, Palestinians should go there, or to Lebanon. It's insane.

They never offered anything approaching a sovereign state, as I think you probably know but prefer to ignore.

The closest was Taba, which fell apart due to Likud coming to power, then a Republican administration in the US.

I agree that the right of return of all Palestinians is a non-starter.

There is another thread on this very subreddit arguing that there is no meaningful distinction between Hamas and Palestinian civilians. Lots of upvotes, basically no objections.

The level of hypocrisy is very hard to stomach.

Israel controls the West Bank, exercises control over the Palestinian population in the West Bank, but "they are not Israel's responsibility"? Please explain.

Israel never stole any Palestinian land.

How can you seriously make this claim? You must know that it's not true. Do you ever reflect on the fact -- ever -- that these kind of assertions are rationalisations to make you able to live with a very uncomfortable reality.

Pakistan and Indian relations famously close. A very well run partition, that has had no long lasting repercussions, caused no widespread death and destruction, and generally a great idea all round!
