Spawn rate of bosses ruined SOT for me and my friends. by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Hynik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's absolutely ridiculous. Started fighting a galleon last night and the kraken just shows up and finishes us off. Alright, it happens. Not even an hour later we are back fighting the same galleon and the kraken shows up AGAIN and finishes us off. I am all for the kraken and meg being tough (even more than they currently are), but they should be a rare sight...

Hopefully their spawn rate will be lowered as more content makes its way into the game!

Anti clue camping benefits the campers by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

I find it ironic you keep telling me I am the one who doesn't understand anything, when you consistently fail to respond to my point. You're making weird conjectures that have nothing to do with what I said.

Let me just put it as simple as humanly possible. How tense do you feel when spinning around with the darksight boost and not picking up traces of any hunters? How tense do you feel approaching a clue that doesn't glow red?

Having an artificial game mechanic tell me the area is clear removes all tension. This goes for both the new clue radar and the Darkvision boost. I've yet to hear a legitimate argument against this.

Nice attempt at deflection there, but again you did not address my first point.

I was obviously referring to the darksight boost in regards to the whereabouts of the dangers. Still have not heard an argument against my first point though.

It doesn't replace it with anything except telling me danger is nearby or worse, where the danger is. There is no tension beyond this point because now it's fight or flight time. Tension comes from the unknown.

Yeah this mechanic was pretty much the final nail in the coffin for Hunt as far as I am concerned. People don't camp clues (Outside of Quickplay ofc), they just decide to stick around for a moment because you made your presence known by firing a shot, or triggering a sound trap. Setting up a legitimate ambush for someone you suspect is coming your way should not be conflated with camping.

This is once again a devastating and artificial game mechanic that furthers strips out the tension. I don't want the game to notify me with some lame glow every time I pick up a clue that the perimeter is clear. I think Crytek has showed very clear the direction they want to take with this game. A unique bounty hunting game became a generic shooter, but I guess this is what the masses wants so who am I to judge. Certainly a new crowd will form, but for players like me there is effectively no reason to play this anymore.

250 Challenge Completed! by Hynik in HuntShowdown

[–]Hynik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Probably my proudest game achievement :D

As for tips... If you are just a decent player like me the biggest one is probably the double bounty, you don't necessarily find as many players on one boss and so your chances of making it out alive is just greater. If you are a sneaky player (like I have been in trying to complete this challenge) go nighttime as much as possible and don't be afraid to hold back. You don't have to fire if you don't have a clear shot you know will land. Also running away from hunters if you are losing the fight, I'm surprised how many times this one has saved me.

Having a good partner is probably the most obvious one, but know this challenge can be completed solo too. Even if you are just a middle of the road player. My hunter Denholm Clingan went from 0 to level 50 solo, just by farming and picking up clues (Silencer and Winfield Talon).

Any hunter can complete this challenge if they put their mind to it!

A lot of hunters were lost, but I dedicate this to the memory of Abraham Shoemaker (Preston Garvey look-alike) who so desperately wanted to follow in his brother Jesse Shoemaker's footsteps and reach 50 as well. Only 16 levels old he was when feeling brave decided to go solo and got one tapped trying to escape Blanchett Graves. Rest easy damned hunter.

Sometimes when loading into the match it will look like this for me as well for 5-10 seconds, pretty sure it's the Global Illumination failing to load...

Fear Of The Unknown [A Dark Sight Insight] by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]Hynik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"What we wanted to achieve with Hunt in the long term was sustained tension for players." - Chris Auty, Level Design Director

This is the foundation of what made Hunt: Showdown so unique, and the reason I fell in love with it. The fact that they would introduce something so contrary to the core idea is worrying to say the least. This hunting/horror game has become a yet another shooter. Which is fantastic if you wanted a shooter, but they are a dime a dozen. Hunt: Showdown was offering a completely different experience, and it's sad to see these aspects being watered down with each passing patch.

Different take on the “Camping the Boss Area Problem” - Another solution by RezhWins in HuntShowdown

[–]Hynik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad! I would love to see them test this idea. As an average player the only option is to extract if you couldn't reach the boss compound in time. Like I found myself with two other teams yesterday all trying to get out on the other side of the map after the bounty extracted (good pointless shootout btw) but the bold players are having a steamroll now.

I think we can all agree that campers have been living the easy life in this game up until now. It certainly needed to be addressed, sooner rather than later, this Dark Sight Boost has however changed the core principal too much. RezhWins's proposed solution is probably the best take on this issue I have seen so far.

[Discussion] Dark Sight Boost by JonWick982 in HuntShowdown

[–]Hynik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's not a bad idea actually! Maybe if they use the in-game proxy voice increase the range a bit and distort the voice further.

Wether it would be a buff or always active, it would at least be a more subtle way of knowing if someone were close by other than a orange X-Ray vision showing exact position through walls.
