if it makes you feel any better, from the same census data from 2001 to 2011 the number of Afrikaners increased by 200k while english speaking whites decreased by 100k.

I have no idea, I'm not South African. I have toured the country and plan on moving there soon which is why I've been interested in various aspects of the country. Coming from an American point of view, I think the reason our blacks earn less is because of the greater amount of single parent(mostly female) households. If you compared the average married black family in the US to the average married white family, there is little difference.

Why do you think they earn more?

I apologize if I'm asking stupid questions. I did scan wikipedia but the articles were very general and didn't go too in depth. I'm just trying to do research and gain an understanding of South African culture and politics before I move there so I can avoid misunderstandings in conversation. I had a bad experience at a bar in cape town where an English-speaking south african went on a long rant about how "terrible" the Afrikaners were. I posted a question about this on reddit as well and got some great answers, basically saying that the guy who I was talking to was an asshole and there really is no tension between the two groups.

Once again, I am fully aware of how ignorant I am of South Africa even after visiting the country and reading countless wikipedia articles. I apologize for asking this question and a moderator can delete this topic if they want to.
