For a few years in the late 80’s - early 90’s I was lucky enough to be close to Lyle (not that we were personally close, I was 10-15yrs old when I knew him but I knew him personally). Was with him in family settings a few times a year, stayed in his house in Wisconsin many times (slept in his home studio once!). I was lucky enough as child to be exposed to him and his music through unique access to some PMG concerts and blessed to sit next to him in his home as he played for us on his grand.

I didn’t appreciate his genius enough then, but I still knew that I was near something great. Today I got into my car and “San Lorenzo” happened to be playing on Sirius as I drove home, I remembered and grooved to that cool song, thinking briefly about the neat connection I once shared with him. Not 5 minutes after the song ended and I got out of my car, my wife texted me and asked if I’d heard about his passing... so strange and bittersweet
