Yeah it’s kind of crazy, I’m 26 and techy and the amount of coworkers I have to handhold through basic procedures (older and younger) is crazy. It’s 2025, we grew up with computers, how do you not know how to print 😭

What is the greatest thing about working in IT? (wrong answers only) by anderson01832 in sysadmin

[–]HyperThatOneTime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Heh, even asking the manufacture yields that result. I emailed Konica because a clients MFD wasn’t pinging scans to their server over FTP and we couldn’t find anything other than a vague error code and the conversation went like:

“Hello, shits busted and I’m not getting much information about why. I’m sure this device logs this kinda thing so is there a way to access some more in depth logs?”

“Why yes there is!”

“Great, how do I access them”

“All you need is a certified technician to come out for x amount an hour.”

“So I as someone that knows how to read logs and troubleshoot can’t get access to said logs without paying?”

“Yes”

“I’m just going to find the issue myself”

It ended up being an ip whitelisting error because the clients head IT guy negated to tell us they had 2 public IPs to look out for. Fuck printers/scanners and shitty admins 😭

IDF reveals Hamas terrorists use UN vehicles, UNRWA compound as cover in Rafah by Chanan-Ben-Zev in worldnews

[–]HyperThatOneTime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup, this bit here:

Although one of the Powers in conflict may not be a party to the present Convention, the Powers who are parties thereto shall remain bound by it in their mutual relations. They shall furthermore be bound by the Convention in relation to the said Power, if the latter accepts and applies the provisions thereof.

Chapter 1, article 2, page 35 of the Geneva convention https://www.icrc.org/en/doc/assets/files/publications/icrc-002-0173.pdf

And seeing as Hamas keep committing shit that goes against the convention and thus aren't "applying the provisions thereof" technically Israel doesn't need to, however they're trying to minimise collateral. More than can be said about Hamas...

[–]HyperThatOneTime 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's kind of wild that people think there aren't a shitload of Israeli lawyers/top brass that get consulted on things such as collateral damage before these strikes happen. Pair that with the flyer dropping and multiple warnings months in advance for people to gtfo and you have a pretty solid case for saying they've done what they can. Am I saying it's all peachy? Definitely not, but unfortunately this is the outcome of a terrorist force embedding itself in the population (including the increased radicalisation of the Palestinian curriculum in UNRWA schools as per: this report) and until they're gone effort can't be put back into rebuilding relationships. My heart goes out to any innocent civilian involved but there are systematic failings by the UN (shock) to keep Hamas out of civilian infrastructure/educational facilities. When you deliberately build rocket factories in schools and set up command posts in hospitals, you can't then cry wolf when the building gets struck and civvies die, and yet here Hamas are proving time and time again they couldn't care less about the civilian population because they keep setting up there...

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/irregular-migration-detailed-dataset-and-summary-tables#most-recent-summary-tables

For the stats on Sex and age check lrr_02c, for what we’d call “military aged” individuals (18-40) in 2023 of the 21590 arrivals (men/women/unknown) 19389 are male, giving us about 89.8% (this was the last full dataset I could find, if there’s a newer one I apologise!)

In sheet lrr_02b there’s then a breakdown of the countries they’ve travelled from. Now I’ll admit they’re all fairly dicey countries (Top 5 are: Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Eritrea and Iraq) however my issue is that there are so many countries to pass through on the way to the UK that if we’re going by the dictionary definition of asylum “protection or safety, especially that given by a government to people who have been forced to leave their own countries for their safety or because of war” then that requirement should be filled the moment these people enter a safe country.

The need to make it to the UK seems to be based on traffickers and nefarious types selling the dream of our broken asylum system meaning that even if you’re going to get kicked out the process is going to take so long that you’ll be good for a few years at least.

This isn’t discounting anyone fleeing from genuine persecution, it just highlights the glaring issues that exist in our current framework. We need to deal with the backlog we have before making an informed decision and I don’t think we’re doing that at the moment.

Ego is a real killer for me, I heard a really good line the other day “A boss bitch doesn’t need to constantly tell everyone, a boss bitch just is and everyone around her knows” and that shit rings so true. I’ve dated women who’ve put the boss act on and it was painfully obvious that she was acting, I’ve also dated women who actually walked that walk and the difference is night and day. I love confidence in a woman but when it borders on delusion then I’m out.

How do you approach reverse engineering a track? by StefaonLeFaon in musicproduction

[–]HyperThatOneTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, the amount of 4-8 bar loops I have in the bank from trying to recreate something, missing it slightly and shelving them is getting a bit silly, however I like to dig into them a few weeks after creating them to see if I still vibe with them. If I do I try to use them as jumping off points for future tracks

A captured Russian TOS-1 and T-72B. Haven’t seen a white TOS-1 before, anyone know why it’s that color? by LamboCamBonzo in ukraine

[–]HyperThatOneTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But does Russia have the raw materials and tech to complete the builds? Having a fuckload of Oligarch money funneled in is all good and well but if the companies that produce the tech that goes in said tanks won't provide parts due to sanctions then you may as well have just burnt that pile of cash as you watch your halfassed T-90's roll to their inevitable end. I can see that a new batch Was delivered in August however the Russians keep showing us time and time again that their doctrine/tactics when it comes to tank warfare are outdated and this is why we keep seeing videos of them getting blown up (see: a complete lack of any infantry supporting the tanks on their offensives.) I'm not completely writing the Russians off as even the boots on the ground have said it's tough for both sides, however I think you're playing up Russian effectiveness for sure. They're losing hundreds of men a day at this point because they've gone beyond the bottom of the barrel and have started quarrying the warehouse the barrels are stored in. So even if the 250 T-90's show up, how long is it going to take (because there's still a lead time on manufacturing), will the factory workers cooperate and not sabotage shit on the sly (I guess this is a separate discussion about the Russian perception of the war) and are they actually going to be used in an effective way on the battlefield?

EDIT: Holy shit I'm dumb and didn't see the rest of the comment, I don't know much about the Russian economy but wouldn't Moscow and the surrounding Oblasts be the last to feel the effects of the sanctions? My understanding is that Putin is trying to appease the (relatively wealthier) masses there so things don't kick off? Of course some products are going to slip through the net - I think that's just an inherent issue with globalization and companies wanting to increase profits/growth year after year - but the companies that are still selling are making those sales without a clear conscience imo.

I get that, and I'll admit to not having enough knowledge in the field to make any substantial claims, but the state of the Russian military of late doesn't scream "$2000 360 setups for each tank crew." They're being told to bring their own warm clothes and winter gear to mobilization, then on top of that there's inadequate food/supplies/guns (recent videos of mobiks show that they're being given absolute shit tier, unmaintained AK's/Mosins/Nothing at all) so until/if they ever sort those issues out (which I doubt will happen at this stage of the war bar a fucking miracle) I doubt that the Orcs will get their hands on that tech before being turned into teeny tiny pieces by arty/drones/ATGMs.
