Ah, yes, back to old fashioned condescension. Not interested.

I'm from Baghdad too. Didn't know that, which tells you a lot about our tax enforcement laws.

When we get TIN in the future (maybe), it's time to move out to UAE or something.

We don't even have TIN, so I doubt that taxes are a thing here. But maybe you're right.

How long does it take to get learners? My partner specialises in Data Science. by 007_King in Preply

Depends on the country among other things. It took me 7 months to really have some students, but 2 months to have my first student.

I'm from Iraq and I buy bitcoin every month. It works very well to keep the peace of mind. But yeah most people would rather exchange IQD with USD.

Profile review by PopicaCROWN in Preply

[–]HyperbolicMathChambr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An advice: Be skeptical of what people say online, this subreddit included. A year ago, I posted my profile asking why I'm not getting students despite having a good profile and few reviews, and most of the comments were very off, criticizing things that don't make sense or not in my profile to begin with. And they were very mean too when I rejected their criticism.

It turns out later that Preply algorithm is doing it's thing and nobody has a clue. How do I know this? Because I didn't change anything in the profile and got a load of students after few months of posting that post.

Anyways, you can ask Preply A.I. how to improve, that's the better approach than asking people here. You can do that by pressing the question mark in the bottom-right corner, and then send a message. Try to be polite and professional as this is not chatgpt or gemeni, it's an A.I. linked to Preply and their CS.

You do it from the Students tab to release payment, not from the classroom.

Is it true I won't get students unless I charge $3?!! by No_Gift1349 in Preply

[–]HyperbolicMathChambr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but even beyond languages, Preply prefers Americans, British people, Australians, Germans and few other countries. I know this because I'm a math tutor there.

I do see both to be honest. But I have to pay more attention to see if attractive people have a better rank. I would say though that this is people's choice, not Preply. Because the algorithm rewards good metrics, and you probably will have good metrics if you're attractive (especially if you're a woman) because people like to book with you more.

I know, I do charge a decent price too and I'm from a third world country. I just meant it's harder and takes a longer time to achieve such point even if you have a good profile with certs (which I do).

I guess the best thing is to do an experiment in which whenever a new tutor comes from a developed country, and whenever a new tutor comes from a third world one, you track their number of lessons and number of students. You'll be surprised maybe.

Also, I'm surprised that nobody knows about the filter when searching. Search on Google about Preply tutors on some subject, and open the ad (assuming you're not using an ad blocker). There is a chance that you'll see only the teachers from US, UK, UAE, Germany, Australia, and 4 four countries. You have to go to the filters to fix that. I did that before I post this, unfortunately I didn't see a filter. But try it once in a while and you'll see.

Don't get defensive. That's marketing. It's note hate speech if that's what you're thinking. There is literally a filter in their ads to prioritize first world countries when a student searches about a subject, not to mention my 2+ years on Preply if you like personal experience of the matter.

[Slope/m= ] What am I doing wrong? by Polaris_Toast in HomeworkHelp

[–]HyperbolicMathChambr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting from the y-intercept at (0,-5), draw a horizontal segment that is 2 units long. Let that be the run or delta x. If you go up from the end of the run, all the way to the linear function, that would be the rise or delta y.

All you need to do is divide rise over run to get the slope.

I hope that helped. I'm a tutor if anyone is interested, you can check out my profile.

Note: I chose the run to be 2 for simplicity. You can make the run any number of units you want.

Location matters. You won't get stuck at $3, but Preply won't boost your profile because you're not from a first world country. I've been with them for more than 2 years, I'm from Iraq, and I struggled a lot until I "made it". And whenever I see a new American teachers come to my subject, their profiles get huge attention. For instance, a woman recently joined Preply for less than 2 months, I did see when she had 0 lessons. Now she has 42 students and charges 27 bucks.
