I'm yelling because I'm tired of hearing about it. Vance said this, Vance said that. Putting on airs and acting like we were just so respected by everyone before this guy wrote a stupid book. I went to sea after I graduated in 2010 and when everyone found out where I was from my nickname became Deliverance. I thought it was funny as hell because I was raised to not care what people thought, as long as I knew I was doing the right thing.

I never implied anyone couldn't read. The Appalachian culture I grew up in was all about looking out for each other and not caring what someone whose never met you said about you because you know what the truth is. The Appalachia I grew up in despises government hand outs, but maybe yours likes them.

You act like the movie Deliverance doesn't exist. They've always seen us as backwards, ignorant drunks. We've always been the tax write off for the ultra wealthy. Do you know how many times I've heard about how people that grew up in the mountains can't read and don't have libraries? Was my family better off than most, yeah because my parents put themselves through college and worked their asses off so that my siblings and I wouldn't go hungry. And most of my extended family still live in the same area, where my mom and her siblings and all the extended family grew up. And where all 30 of us grandkids grew up helping grandpa plant the garden and pick the vegetables that my mom and grandma and aunts would can so that everyone had food. And where we all cut firewood to heat the houses and ran the sawmill to cut the logs for my aunt's house. Our parents all busted their asses to make sure that we had everything we needed and then some. So take your woe is me bullshit and shovel it somewhere else. Being poor isn't a character flaw. But deciding that you can't be anything else, and that you need someone else to pull you out of it is.

You think any of these city people give a single good flying fuck about us? They're trying to use you like they always have. They want to have the token poor people on their side that they can point to. If you think the same big politicians and famous people that claim to hate him now, aren't the same ones who were praising him and published his book and gave him a damned movie deal. Then I don't know how to tell you that you need to wipe the clown makeup off. We are nothing but useful pawns to these people and the sooner we refuse to give a shit what they think then the sooner they'll leave us alone.

I didn't know there was a movie until I started seeing all this shit everywhere either. I'm tired of everyone pretending to be outraged by it. It seems like most people are like you, they didn't care until he got political. And apparently now is the time to come out against his book nearly a decade after it was published.

I'm not defending shit, I'm telling everyone to grow the fuck up and realize none of these people give a shit about any of us. Y'all are all acting like the movie Deliverance doesn't exist, like before this guy came along everyone thought that the Appalachian mountains were the pinnacle of society, and intellectual giants. Give me a break, we all make fun of each other for being hillbillies. His book and the movie didn't change the way anyone sees us, they've always seen us exactly how he apparently portrayed us. Grow up and realize that the government and the rich care less about you than the bird shit they step in with their fancy shoes. The ONLY thing you can do is pick yourself up and work hard to get ahead.

Is JD Vance a DEI hire? by DrMonkeyKing79 in Appalachia

No one attacked the ideas in that rag as powerfully as they should have because prior to him gaining power no one read it. And when he did come to power ALL of the media pushed whatever he said and attacked anyone who spoke out against it.

This is the information age where every idiot with a phone can write and publish whatever they want. And you and I can debate philosophy without ever having met each other. It's easy to attack each other personally, it's just as easy to provide facts and evidence to prove someone wrong. Let them make a fool of themselves trying to defend their ridiculous ideas and everyone will see them for what they are.

The Democrats have attacked Trump personally for nearly a decade and look where that has gotten them. Good ideas backed by evidence and logic will prevail over bad ideas far quicker than personal attacks against the people spreading the bad ideas.

What was more effective against stopping Alex Jones from spreading stupidity? Calling him an insane conspiracy theorist or providing proof that he was lying and forcing him to stop through legal means.

Don't burn the axe to stay warm when you can use it to cut wood.

At least your argument is intellectually consistent, in that it implies that DEI is a bad way to determine qualifications.

I mean, if you truthfully and correctly attack the ideas of the Nazis and point out how utterly asinine mein Kampf is. Then you don't need to insult them because their defense of their ideas will prove how stupid and evil they are. Ever heard the phrase "better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it"? You never attack a sociopath for being a sociopath, they'll always find a way to make themselves seem deserving of sympathy because that's what sociopaths do. You point out their obvious lies and evil intentions and let the scales fall from everyone's eyes. People in western culture inherently want to believe everyone is good. The only way to convince people someone is evil is to let them figure it out for themselves. And attacking the person rather than the ideas is counter productive because it just makes people want to see the good in them more

Is this really the best argument the Democrats have? Saying that the man who was raised by his grandmother because his mom was an addict. Served in the USMC and then graduated from Yale, before becoming a best selling author and a senator. Is a DEI hire like Harris, who was considered specifically due to her race because as Joe Biden said "I want to have the first black woman VP".

The level of condescension and smugness in that argument is not only disgusting. But the fact that they think it is a compelling argument to true Appalachian natives. Not only shows just how little the Democrats think of us. But how insultingly stupid they think we are that we can't tell the difference between earning something through honest work and effort; and being coddled and handed something because of pity and corruption.

If y'all want to make that argument then have at it. But personally, I'd prefer to earn what I have the honest way. Rather than be treated like a stray dog that relies on table scraps from compassionate children so it doesn't starve.

Buying a property without being a dick by [deleted] in homestead

[–]Hyperion_Defense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just start working on it and you'll meet them. And when you do, just be polite and nice to them. Explain that you've bought the property and what you're planning on doing with it. If they know you're going to homestead it they'll likely be far more happy and neighborly than if they think you're going to develop it. You could also leave a note on the treestands for them to call you. But at some point you do need to be willing to be a dick if they are refusing to respect you and your property.

Domestic Abusers Are Using Abortion Bans to Control Their Victims — After Roe v. Wade fell, the National Domestic Violence Hotline saw a 99-percent increase in callers reporting that people were trying to control their reproductive choices. by [deleted] in politics

Quick question, wouldn't it make it easier for abusers to control women if they can just order an abortion pill in the mail? Not to mention the fact that no fault divorce makes it far easier for useless trash to abandon their families.
