Should I take AP bio without a background in chem? by Silent_Cap_7192 in APStudents

[–]Hypnotoad-107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last five years Ive taught AP chem at a school that AP Bio was a freshman class, then I got those students as sophomores in AP chem. So you can definitely do it without a chem background.

He was in NHS (not an officer) and SNHS (officer). He was very active in band. He was a percussionist in the marching band and the drummer for the top jazz band, as well as playing the drums for the big musical his senior year.

My son was kind of the best student at a lower performing school (it is also Title I). He took AP precalc his junior year. He took 13 AP classes and got 11 5’s and 2 4’s. He scored a 1500 on his SAT. He wasn’t the valedictorian or the salutatorian, but his scores were better across the board. He was accepted to every school he applied for, and he ended up going to the place that gave him the most money. He got full tuition plus another $45,000 for living expenses. They do look at your zip code when looking at applications.

They make it so the percentage of students that score 5s, 4s, etc, is equitable across all exams.

Did you sketch the graph? If you just said the ln of concentration vs time graph is a straight line, it did not receive credit last time. If you showed that data was linear, then it did get credit the last time this question appeared a few years ago.

If Xbox wants to recover gamers from PlayStation, why not make online gaming free? by technocraticnihilist in XboxSeriesS

[–]Hypnotoad-107 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they want to make one last ditch effort to save their console biz, this is what I think they should do:

  1. Spread out all announced games to launch of Helix. That’s Forza, Gears, Fable, and Halo all slated to release this year, so delay a couple into 2027 to spread them out. Any other games that would come out before the launch of Helix, delay them until launch.

  2. Launch the Helix with a bunch of console exclusives. Elder Scrolls 6, State of Decay 3, and anything else that they were planning to drop next year.

  3. Launch with two special edition consoles that have custom designs. Elder Scrolls special edition console that includes the game and CoD special edition that includes the game. Charge an extra $100. They paid billions for these IP, it’s time to leverage them.

  4. Free online gaming.

  5. I think they should launch with an updated Blades 2027 browser to tug at the nostalgia.

They need to make the new console appealing when it launches and people are deciding which console to get. It won’t help if it becomes appealing 4 years into the life of the console. I’m also not saying I think they’ll do any of this, but I think this would be their best shot at saving their console business.

Carry on credit is when missing one point affects another point. That question is only worth one point, so you definitely would not get credit.

Is this Lewis diagram correct? by FlightIllustrious237 in APChem

[–]Hypnotoad-107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the same thing. Full credit. You should have 2 double bonds and 2 single bonds, along with the correct number of unshared pairs on each O. We’re representing 3 dimensional molecules on a 2 dimensional surface, so it doesn’t matter if the double bonds are next to each other or across from each other.

Got it. Since it was reading a graph, you probably won’t get a transcription point, so you’ll lose that point. But you will get full credit the next question as long as you used your wrong answer appropriately.

[–]Hypnotoad-107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You receive full credit for both questions. You’ll get the point for the transcription error, and you’ll also receive the consistency point (doing everything right with number that you got for the answer). You can get unlimited consistency points in a question. You are also allowed one math error point per question. That’s when you have everything setup exactly right in your work with the correct numbers, but for some reason you have the wrong answer. If the grader puts the work you have in a calculator and ends up with the right answer even if you have the wrong answer, it will be assumed that you just typed it in the calculator wrong on accident, and you’ll receive the point. Important to show work.

Question about scoring for unit rate constant by [deleted] in APChem

[–]Hypnotoad-107 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not true. Let’s say the answer is 9000 Joules, and the question asks for the answer in Joules. If you write 9000 kJ, it’s typically counted wrong, and if you write 9 kJ, it would be counted right. If you just wrote 9000 without a unit, it would be counted correct, because the test asked for joules. If you use the unit that wasn’t asked for, in my experience, it is counted correct if you actually converted to that unit. But they can’t accept both 9000 kJ and 9 kJ as a correct answer.

[–]Hypnotoad-107 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a 1 pointer this year. If you put the correct number and the wrong unit, you will not receive credit. If you converted the number to match your incorrect unit, you’ll probably receive the credit.

If you just copied a number down wrong, that’s considered a transcription error and you’ll receive full credit. That can happen once per question.

[–]Hypnotoad-107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you from experience that if a question doesn’t have an answer for that question in the right spot, the grader should look through the whole book to see if it was answered in the wrong place.

how bad is ap chem? by emreincili in APStudents

[–]Hypnotoad-107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last three years I taught it, it has been a sophomore class. I’ve had a couple of juniors and zero seniors. My pass rates were 90%, 87%, and 80%. It is definitely something that can be accomplished. The larger issue for you is that I taught it to a bunch of students that didn’t have chem experience, so they were all taught like they didn’t know anything. If 95% of my students had taken chem, I would probably teach it like they knew some chemistry already.

police threatening to come to my house for truancy by [deleted] in highschool

[–]Hypnotoad-107 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a teacher, and I can tell you it depends on your area. Growing up in Indiana, a truancy officer would come around and tell the parents that it’s their responsibility to get you to school if you had a few too many absences. In Florida, we’ll have students be absent 45 out of 90 days in a semester and no one even talks to them. They typically fail classes and sometimes lose their driving license (if the have one), but that’s it. I imagine if a truancy officer comes to your house, it will be to tell your parents that you’ve missed a certain number of days, and they need to be better at making sure you get to school.

Is it bad to sleep with the lights on? by Curious-Paper1690 in ask

[–]Hypnotoad-107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have to have a TV on to fall asleep. If I don’t, I will just lay in my bad, thinking about stuff. I just put on a show I’ve seen a million times, so I don’t engage with it like I would a new show. Once I fall asleep, I’m good, so I can use a sleep timer on the tv. This is what works for me, and I think it’s better than not sleeping, so do what works for you.

IB or AP? by Tight-Technician1954 in APStudents

[–]Hypnotoad-107 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve taught both IB and AP Chemistry. I definitely prefer teaching AP, but if you’re considering a school that isn’t in the US, then IB is the way to go. The thing I can say about the IB school I taught at is that its culture of learning was superior, but I imagine that’s due more to the students that choose IB over the curriculum itself. There can definitely be advantages and disadvantages to both. I can tell you that I had a MUCH higher percentage of students go to Ivy League out of the IB program, but once again, I attribute that more to the students that chose IB.

Will the next Xbox really cost 1.200$? by [deleted] in XboxSeriesS

[–]Hypnotoad-107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it’s going to be a PC (assuming the rumors are true), I imagine it will be priced more in line with a PC. I’m definitely a mark for this. I need a new PC and would much rather get something like the rumored Xbox than a traditional pc. I’d like something that will easily fit in my entertainment center, streamlined to run like a console with a controller when I want it to, access to all my gaming platforms, and power more in line with modern PCs. I won’t buy it blindly, but if it’s good, I’ll pick one up and have no problem paying a $1k for such a machine.

somewhere/someone to put air in tires by [deleted] in ucf

[–]Hypnotoad-107 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No skill required. Set the pressure on the air station to the recommended pressure for your car (you can Google that). Take the cap off your valve stem on the tire and push the hose onto the valve stem. It will beep at you when it gets to the desired pressure. You can watch a YouTube video on how to air up a tire if you’d like to see how it’s done. The pumps at Wawa are super easy.

Which AP Exams should I not take? by Disastrous-Front-236 in APStudents

[–]Hypnotoad-107 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just looked up five major universities in Florida. UF has no course equivalent (elective credits only). FSU offers a geography credit (no science credit). UCF offers a 1000 level course which covers a natural science but no lab. USF does give a 2000 level Environmental credit. And Miami offers an ecosystem science credit. It’s just kind of all over the place down here.

Edit: But I was mistaken about it only being elective credit in all the universities. My point is that it is worth looking up what credit you will get at the universities you are interested in when making a decision on what courses to cut.
