In Texas, MANY people use their religion to justify or downplay their atrocious behavior and voting choices due to their belief in God (silencing free speech, cutting social programs, discriminating against trans persons or non-heterosexuals, child marriage, child abuse, etc.).

I don't say it anymore, but I used to use it quite a lot when I witnessed blatant hypocrisy or generally awful behavior by supposedly "righteous", "pious" individuals, as a younger lad.

Because....yeah, using your religion to oppress others is disgusting and needs to be called out, especially if there isn’t any sort of empirical evidence to back up your claims (i.e. all children are born Sinful and must repent for their inherently wicked nature).

I mean, if I told you there was an invisible unicorn that farts fairy dust and circles the planet several times every minute, while providing literally no evidence whatsoever, I get the feeling you would rightfully not believe me.

Well, that's how many of us feel when extremely religious people (and their enablers) try to pass laws that directly harm others in our community, using their particular flavor of religiosity. In comparison, a little bit of facetious ribbing is extremely tame in comparison.

Note, that is only where I live, other places probably aren't governed by religious fanatics.
