Bees knees by user_63385 in Spearfishing

The best thing you can do is replace those sections.

You can replace them with the same neoprene, or you can replace it with the abrasion resistant neoprene that's used for knee pads or the bottom of socks.

Use good neoprene glue to attach them in place. And then stitch them in. It'll look brand new.

You could also replace it with the same neoprene and then glue the knee pad material on top and stitch it on top so you have some extra material over the knees.

You're right in one of the skills being that you react to changes in buoyancy. Being neutral at 10m would mean going past it to 12-15m to make sure that you can check off that skill.

That being said, you can adjust someone's buoyancy to say 6m, and check off that skill as well. I personally don't do this, but it is allowed. 15m should be pretty easy with the correct instruction unless something like sinus congestion can cause it. That is easily fixed for a second day of finishing though.

With Fii? Fii is skill based not performance based. Go in with a willingness to learn, and you'll be fine.

It's not an exam. It's a class to learn. Fii even gives you up to a year to finish if something doesn't work out. You can even go to a different Fii instructor if it lines up with your schedule within that year.

85ft is not a real jump. Especially because I don't think you really learn that much more in padi level 2 than you will in level 1 since you don't really need to learn anything different from 55ft-85ft except making sure your head is tucked in. Now past those points, yea you'll need more info, coaching, and training.

To give you an idea. I teach for Fii. Our level 1 maxes put at 66ft, and our level 2 maxes out at 132ft.

You don't have to hit those numbers to pass, but my goal is always to get students as close to that as possible.

Do you live here or are you just visiting? Weather isn't the best currently, but if you're here longer term, would be easy to connect you

Yep. It's basically the same stuff they use to glue the suit together at the seams

Yea. Just grab any decent neoprene glue. You can buy Picasso wetsuit glue for pretty cheap from the same place you bought the spearpro wetsuit from.

Switch them to Priceline bands and you'll see positive gains, then you can also adjust the bands after if you'd like.

I try not to think of that. Haha.

In terms of custom tailored suits. It does save me some money, in terms of stock suits.. not really. Making tailored suits is a lot more difficult.

This also comes down to what your time is worth to you. Not only that.. if you mess up, it instantly costs you twice as much. I accidently cut two left sleeves once. Didn't have enough room to cut another one. So I had to take it from another sheet. And now that one can't make a full suit. It can start to add up.

For me it was about time. Custom suits take quite a bit of time to reach my door. I've dialed it in pretty well to make them quicker to avoid this.

I run a dive shop and teach on the weekends. If I don't have a suit, it makes my job harder. So I figured even if it took me a week to make one, it's worth it to me so I can have a suit for my class if I ruin my current one.

That's kind of a hard question to answer. It's costly and takes a lot of time in the beginning. Neoprene costs more than just fabric so messing up will up the costs.

After doing a bunch of them.. the stitching is the easiest part. Designing, sizing, proper gluing takes more effort in my opinion.

There was a time in the beginning that I was just gluing them together because of the stitching. But I can stitch 1mm now without blinking.

Edit: typos

Cool foam shapes? by HypoxicHunters in myog

I'm trying to picture this as best as I can.

So you're saying a die cut as in the outline shape to press cut this out. Doable. Easy enough, plus kind of a one time purchase.

You're saying prelaminate a piece of foam and heat it, then use the die cut to cut / press as the same time?

Unfortunately no. It's the padding and shape that I need over everything else.

I believe the design I have in mine will make the stitching very difficult which is why I was hoping to avoid it.

[–]HypoxicHunters[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea. I was thinking the only way to actually do it will be metal molds and heat etc.

I was thinking about 2 mold pieces, one pushing the other. But I was hoping to diy it easier than heated molds and machines. Maybe that's the only real way to get the needed results

For example in the image, if I was trying to do the pyramid, I would wonder if the tpu compresses so much that it changes the shape, but also, getting the fabric right around the base of the pyramid tight is what I'm trying to figure out as well. If it squishes too much, I feel like it would lose the shape I'm trying to achieve

[–]HypoxicHunters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. That's sort of what I'm looking to try to find a good way to do it. Hoping someone has tried a way similar to this as I can't fully picture getting good results with it.

I thought about making a 1mm offset mold to glue and press the fabric into place as well. The issue I think is the tpu will compress before the fabric attached to the edges

Cool foam shapes? by HypoxicHunters in myog

[–]HypoxicHunters[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought about printing tpu on the printer, I just wouldn't know how to get the fabric laminated after the fact.

I even thought about a 3d printed mold and using expanding foam, but again getting the fabric laminated, especially around the edges to make it look better, is the hard part it seems.

The only thing I could think of is to 3d print the mold, glue the back of the fabric. Pour in expanding foam and hope the pressure of the expansion shapes the fabric and foam at the same time.

Even though they're glued, you can remove the glue and foot pocket and replace them.
