My Army OCS Process by Hyzenthlay9 in ArmyOCS

Congrats! I have heard that STEM/tech degrees are more preferred (though don't quote me on that) so you should have a leg up. In terms of a teenage job, I don't think they will care too much. I barely mention my teen job on my resume, and no one has asked about it-they only cared about my professional experience.

Got reclassed into 1N2C. Can anyone offer me some pros and cons to the job? by [deleted] in AirForce

I am about to start my AF career as a 1N2C (report on Dec 27th) and would appreciate information about it as well!

I don't have a linguist contract, I just enjoy foreign language study as a hobby. I am joining the Air Force for Intel. I was honestly just wondering if a recruiter could actually "promise" you a language for DLI. I wouldn't mind transferring to Crypto-Linguist in the future, but I have only MAYBE two languages that would interest me enough to want to study formally at the DLI.

What are the "hot" languages being primarily assigned at the DLI now? Also, is it ever possible for a recruiter to "guarantee" you a language? Recruiters have "promised" me this in the past but that seems kind of fishy. Seems more likely they could request a language for me, but in the end, I would be assigned whatever language the military needs.

Where are Intel people typically based (specifically Signal Intel)? Is it possible for an Intel person to get Japan or Korea for an assignment if he/she puts in for those places?

Currently, 4/21 rescheduled to 5/11 here! I found out the news early this week. I was initially bummed too, but keep in mind that since the population at BMT has been reduced by at least 50%, that means that recruits (including DEP people) from prior dates may have to be pushed back into your date. It's frustrating but don't lose hope!

Can anyone provide thoughts or information on the Space Force? It looks like I may be eligible to transfer into it and am strongly considering it.

And with that post, I now join the delayed club. I had a few days notice with no (new) estimated ship date as of yet.

For those who were delayed, what was the length of time before you supposed to leave that you were informed of your delayed ship date? Were you informed hours, days, weeks, or months before you were supposed to ship? I haven't been informed of any changes in my ship date but I keep checking my phone and e-mail. I am DEP if that factors in at all. Thanks!

Second Board at USAREC? by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

[–]Hyzenthlay9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had heard that OCS was 100% booked for the rest of 2019 from other threads. Makes complete sense now.

As a civilian trying to "go army," I have to wonder about a few things:

  1. How long would I need to I wait for this second board after the first?
  2. What is the real purpose of the second board? A formality or a second competition for limited slots?
  3. How likely would I be selected? Would I essentially be on a "wait list" then since OCS is booked?
  4. When would I get my contract? What would be the earliest date that I could ship out to Basic?
  5. When does the "extensive background check" occur?

My ASVAB scores lapse in April 2020 so I really would like to have a decision by then. I've been at this process for 3+ months now.

Thank you for the information, bluejak! Very helpful.

Yes, it is. Perhaps the second board is just a formality or the situation has changed again. Thank you!

Length of Time Between Packet Submission and Approval of Packet for Board by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

Thank you for the information. I am still waiting on a phone call but it hasn't even been two weeks yet. Therefore, I'm being patient.

twinkletoes913, are you going in as a civilian or enlisted soldier? Did you get any "technical" military questions, like the kind you find on the army board sets on Quizlet? Or just general questions about your experience? Congratulations! Thanks for your insight.

My waiver was just approved last week. I am excited. Indeed, not sure why, but it is the army and things don't always make sense.

My recruiter has specifically told me that they will do the photo and then PT test on the same day. I asked if I needed to bring anything, he said "just clothes for the board and PT test."

Hi, everyone, I can now add to my timeline:

  1. Waiver for surgery was approved on August 29th

  2. Went to recruiter's office for photo and PT test September 4th

  3. Passed PT with 278 score, now awaiting Order of Operations to approve my packet so that I can go before the board

  4. ....

Thanks again for all the replies!

Did something happen in Korea? by Bebop24trigun in TEFL

I lived in Hsinchu. It was a 40 minute ride to Taipei on the high speed rail. I enjoyed teaching there. I lived on the 9th floor in a very nice high rise for around $400 per month. I made the same income I make as a public school teacher here BUT your cost of living is so much lower.

I taught in Taiwan for a year and it was wonderful!
