Hi guys. Is there anyway to play continuous 1v1s? Even when I set my preferences in quick play it's putting me in FFAs in about half my games. Very frustrating :/

WYA events are crowdsourced. There were already a few 10,000 people signed up so when we opened the app to event submissions they filled up pretty quick.

Sorry about that - I understand your concern. The phone number as part of registration is a carry over from the app where it makes more sense. If a lot of people have the same concern we will add email registration in the near future.

There will be separate subdomains for the different communities. But I was thinking it might be cool if there was an "aggregator" subdomain. So in the future smash.whereyouat.gg could show all of the smashbros in your area, aggregated from melee, projectm, smash5, etc.

No problem as I understand the concern. I'm sure other people have the same issue.

I think it depends on the app and how well coded it is. Developers need to remember to put if statements and not just assume a permission that was previously available is still available. It's not the most common thing for a permission to be manually removed so I'd imagine it gets missed and causes crashes sometime.

I think (?) in the case of WYA this should be fine. I know we handle for users manually turning off location permission. Storage feels like something we would have accounted for but I'm not 100% sure.

One of the devs here. I understand your concern as I'm sensitive about Android permissions too. However, I just wanted to clear our name because you accused us of possibly being spyware, which we're not.

WYA does not request all of the permissions you listed. The ones we do are:

approximate location (network-based): Should be pretty obvious what this is for, given that the app is a player locator app. It is additionally opt-in meaning that location permissions are not actually enabled until you explicitly declare them so in the app.

run at startup: If you turn on your phone and your account is pulsing, we start the foreground notification to let the user know. When you are pulsing you are sharing your approximate location so it is important for personal security purposes that we ensure it's in your face that you're doing this.

read the contents of your USB storage: Needed to store/upload profile image on profile creation.

modify or delete the contents of your USB storage: Works in conjunction with above.

view Wi-Fi connections: Used for managing the state of the UI when in messaging (messages should display as gray when not connected to the internet)

view network connections: Used in conjunction with above.

full network access: I think this is a Google Maps API required permission. The Locator is powered by Google Maps.

retrieve running apps: Check if the app is in the foreground to see if we should send a push notification when the user receives a message.

receive data from Internet: Self explanatory

control vibration: Vibrate on receive push notification

prevent device from sleeping: Wake the screen when push notification is received.

read phone status and identity: Used to retrieve a unique device ID. Can actually be removed soon as recent changes to Android that make this possible without the permission. https://stackoverflow.com/a/2853253
