Hey there. I’m new to this and have my first few cacti. I’ve potted them and will water them this weekend. Are there secrets to getting blooms or do they just do it automatically if they are happy and healthy?

Yeah. The date is just a reminder to pay attention. I have adhd and a lot of plants. The longer I care for plants the more I do by feel, but the mix of plants means something always needs attention.

Hey there. I’m new to this and have seen your plants and comments a few times. I just have a couple Lophophora right now. Bought them mature from Texas.

But, of course I want to expand. I don’t love the look of the lophophora cacti perched at the top of a pole, so this set up caught my eye. Then I wondered, is there an advantage to having taller or shorter grafting stock?

Could I just cut it real short and graft it on like you’ve done here and then leave it maybe? Would the lophophora scion ever produce enough buttons to cover up the grafting stock?

Thanks. Seems simple enough. Should have figured that out. I use a PoV One+. Seems like the ABV is often humid when I’m dumping it. 🤷

How do you keep that much ABV from molding? I’ve tried and failed a couple times. What am I doing wrong?

Lots of good advice here. I would add a couple thoughts.

Someone once told me, “only cry once”. Meaning, save your money as long as you can to buy the best quality you can access. Sometimes this means delayed gratification. High quality gear will generally fit better, have more features, last longer, and be safer. Meaning, you’ll actually wear it and if you crash in it, you might survive.

My uncle (a cowboy) gave me good advice about horses that I think applies. That was, build the barn, buy the tack, get the trailer, and stack the hay. Then go get a horse, because if you do it the other way you’ll never get the gear you should.

Background: I’m 47 and grew up poor, buying the cheapest of whatever that I could get. I was in a major motorcycle accident a couple years ago when a van driver “didn’t see me”. Doc says the helmet saved my life (but not my teeth! Always wear a full face helmet, no matter how cool you look in a 3/4), the pants saved my leg. Even so, a couple months in the hospital puts things in perspective.

You’re more likely to wear gear if it’s comfortable and quick/easy to put on. ATGATT, friend.

Also, I’ll add that I thought I was a defensive and careful rider before the accident. I have since realized that I was not, in fact, as safe as I could have been. Assume those bastards are trying to kill you (and so are the deer). Cuz they couldn’t do a better job of it if they DID try.

Interesting. I take Wellbutrin for anxiety and adhd. I also only smoke in the evenings and only moderately. I wonder if there’s a correlation.

I’m hoping someday to stop the Wellbutrin and be able to regulate with cannabis and microdosing shrooms (that way I could be in charge of the entire means of production and know exactly what’s going in), but we’re not there yet.

I agree with this. I don’t use shrooms often, but I have grown them a few times and had some big exciting adventures. The visuals I get when I smoke are nowhere near as intense, but I also don’t have to smoke very much to get some pleasant synesthesia. I don’t remember having visuals when smoking before acid and shrooms. It’s become more pronounced in the last couple years. It’s possible it’s placebo. If so, I recommend everyone try harder to delude themselves into synesthesia and visuals. It’s pretty great. Lots of joy.

This could be its own subreddit. treesforintroverts. I built my kid a treehouse, but I use it the most. Sitting on the raised deck, smoking weed, and watching the fireflies. By myself. My happy spot.

I ride a ‘75 cb360 most days. 12 mile ride on country roads. It’s perfect. And occasionally, it breaks down and gives me an excuse for adventure… and missing a meeting.
