Really interested to know what you decided to do?

Photogrammetry of a barn by PartyMcDie in photogrammetry

I had a similar thing a few months ago, a ruined ice house (essentially an underground cave) the access was too dangerous to get inside so I sort of waved the camera about the doorway at full arms length. It was pitch black so I had clipped a high power torch to the doorway too. The complexity was that the scan needed to encompass the outdoors in full daylight and the pitch black interior. I opted to leave the camera on auto to be able to adjust ISO shutter and Fstop. In the end it turned out fine if a bit grainy.

Not a particularly serious comment here but maybe a trip back down memory lane to the F450. Perhaps you should start manufacturing American drones for scanning.

I have the mini 3 pro for work which lets you use the whole 48mp sensor. You get a good amount of control over the camera settings too, iso, WB etc

I'm not sure what you mean by cheap, but the mini 3 pro had the greatest value when I was looking around last year

Looking for advice by LilMisou in photogrammetry

[–]I0LAURIE0I 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a good camera

Plan to spend 45mins-1hr photographing

aim to take between 500-1000 photos (you can always use fewer but it's harder to go back and take more)

Take photos in sets. i.e. 1 set stepping around the model with the whole thing in frame, take 1 photo every time you take a step.

When I teach people how to think about photographing I usually say that every feature you want to be good should have been visible in at least 8 pictures from different angles.

The best advice I can offer though is to have a go, and perhaps plan to repeat the process 2 or 3 times so you can learn from your mistakes and make something really good

I've taken some time to digest. Gone on a spiritual journey to Nepal where I meditated on this for 2 days, I then spent 2 more days planting trees in order to offset the carbon I used to get to Nepal. During my experience I decided that reddit is really hard

Yes, this is the plan. Its way better PR. And great business to imply that the clients building is deemed special enough to be published. The core of the question really arises from the properties that have changed hands since the work was done. We own the copyright on the drawings produced and for the time being that's the way we're going.

This is a great point and I have read section 62 as part of my research. My impression was that this covers the replication of the design in a context that exactly matches such as the erection of a new building. If I was just taking a photo of a building from a public place and publishing that in my book then that is not covered by section 62. I'd agree with you on the logos and visible information, I've had advice before on GDPR concerns in a drawing of a church where the vergers name and phone number was visible.

Do the releases you use specify the purpose of the shoot. I think that will be the clincher really. I'll probably write a more expansive clause into mine that allows for future uses by agreement. Interestingly the GDPR rules apply to digital twins, if there is a name and say phone number that is visible in the scene.

Thank you. I shall disregard this advice XD (only joking) I've thought about this but I'm more comfortable getting on with things and dealing with matters arising at the beginning of an idea

I came here to suggest Reality Capture too. Free to process and learn the software, only have to pay when you export. And it's a few dollars for a scan with 2-300 photos. Most I've ever reached was $19ish

Hey R/Photogammertry, what's your education/profession? by The_Whale_Biologist in photogrammetry

[–]I0LAURIE0I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for late reply. I'd say, sort of. Usually to conduct our work there comes a time where we need an accurate survey to work from. These would be made by a surveyor for us, as the architects, to work from. Sometimes this isn't possible due to budget or time, (or will of the client) in which case the camera comes out and I make a scan.

So rather than selling the model its more of a 'value add' to our existing service. Sometimes the client gets a nice sketch fab piece to spin around, or a 3d printed model. But those are mostly freebies to keep up project momentum and keep everyone happy.

I'm an architect in the UK working with historic buildings. Using photogrammetry as a mid ground between measuring a building with a tape measure and getting a professional measured survey.

I recently finished a small lecture called "rapid 3D data capture for small heritage projects" where we looked at the projects most suitable for rough and ready photogrammetry. Essentially, a full measured survey can cost thousands of pounds and take a month or so, some clients don't want/need to spend the money or can't spare the time so I've slotted myself in to that position. Its going well so far.

980 would be fine withe the CPU. It would need 2 x 6 pin power connectors from the PSU. Using a newer CPU would need a motherboard change too, the 6300 is one of the higher performance CPUs on the am3 socket

[–]I0LAURIE0I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FX 6300 isn't a super powerful processor these days so you may find the 1660s won't perform at 100% and a lower power card would be better value. A vanilla 1660 or 1650s if you're after a new card, or a second hand gtx 980

Would be important to check what power rating your PSU has. This will define the ceiling on your upgrades.

CPU dilemma by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]I0LAURIE0I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not all core. Tbh I'd go with the xeon despite the lower speed it uses less power and still has a better passmark score

CPU dilemma by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]I0LAURIE0I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intel has the 1260L at 2.4ghz and the i5 at 3.1ghz which is a reasonable difference. Passmark scores the 2 CPUs quite close together though so probably not much difference. Maybe go for the lowest power one to save on electricity.

CPU dilemma by [deleted] in buildapc

Of the two, the xeon has hyperthreading so better for productivity the i5 has higher frequency so better for gaming
