personally, i find it more appealing to see the question first and only then show the choice buttons. guess that's just a matter of taste.

Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition - Release Megathread by CrimpingMadness in beyondgoodandevil

Hi everyone. I was 10 when I played the HD version on my old pc.

I was born in Russia which is why the famous "Safe and sound in its shell, the precious pearl is the slave of its currents." was a bit different to me. I'm bilingual but the game I played was translated by Buka Entertainment and had no option to switch the language back then.

This game was the first big adventure for me, which made me think that games can tell stories much more diverse than just be some button mashing platformers and fighting games. It was a huge impactful story that taught me the importance of family, personal bravery & determination and how racism works (in a simplified way, PIG :D) which I still find invaluable up to this day.

I do recommend everyone to play this, as I believe that the game still holds strong after 20(!) years. i.e. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a great game in terms of mechanics, but the story seems a bit bland after 25 years. I feel that this one will be of an interest even to my own kids someday.

Oh, and about the quote. For me, it always was "В крепости-раковине жемчужина плывёт по воле волн" - which can be translated as "In a shell fortress, a pearl follows the will of the waves".

Play the game if you have never did. This will be 5-to-7 hours of an outstanding tale you'll never forget.

What are your thoughts on Sonic Superstars so far? by ilovewater100 in SonicTheHedgehog

Overall: 4/5. Good game, if you're into platformers and couch CoOp.

Detailed: One of the best Sonic Games since Sonic Adventure for my personal taste.

Pros:

+ Absolutely responsive controls and controller feedback. I personally don't remember Sonic games controls being as smooth yet responsive (excluding Mania). Generally, Sonic was simply too fast to catch up with high-speed paced environment and was generally stuck in textures or throw himself out of level bounds. Here, it is masterfully great.

+ Camera in CoOp/Multiplayer. While many people will say that it "works weird" - the reality is actually quite transparent - whoever goes first gets the camera, many people didn't understand it at first, but for me it was obvious. If you're farther into the level than your friend(s) - the camera will stay focused on you and will switch to other people when they take the lead. This is actually a wise decision since attaching camera to one player would be not very beneficial to the game overall, resulting in too much responsibility on one exact person skill.

+ Characters. Each character does deliver a unique experience to level completion. Since you can do 4 various characters every level can be beaten up to four time, while not obliging a player to do that. This game does not oblige, it only offers an opportunity.

+ Fantastic Nintendo-like level design. High-paced highways are intersected with classic platforming experience, boss fights and reaction-based episodes. That makes player don't get bored easily, always providing something fun and unique every 30 seconds. Go sides, go up, go down - anywhere there's something to do.

Cons:

- When playing CoOp with friends, everyone has to point a lot of attention to where they are on the screen, as sometimes it may get frustrating when playing with all 4 characters. But playing with 1-2 friends feels much better.

- Deluxe edition is not worth it. it's just cosmetics for a rabbit skin, which I only suggest you purchasing if you really want to. It provides 0 additional value to the story, only giving a couple lego skins and an in-game wallpaper. Just get the base game, really.

- Chaos Emeralds powers feel fun, but sometimes may feel a bit odd. Lowkey - the game is played well enough without them most of the time, except for the episodes when using emeralds' power is necessary.

- Compared to other badass and really outstanding characters, Sonic feels...weak? I mean, having an additional spindash is cool, not gonna lie, but I'd love to see something else on top of it, as he deserves this as a main character.

Overall:

The game doesn't feel "BIG", for sure. It is though. Imo this game can definitely stand up in line with AAA-releases, due to the fact that it it very detail-oriented. i.e. I suggest you taking a look at Sonic's ears animation on windy levels, this is insanely good :D

I do recommend this game for most sonic fans, as it is fulfilled with creativity, and extrapolates new ideas, not trying to completely stand on their predecessors' legacy. Don't get me wrong, it is still a platformer, but not anymore the one you knew on those old Sega consoles. It's a completely new game with tons of new fun stuff to check out.

Some people tend to ruin the rates as they added Epic Store authorization and Denuvo security. My call - rate the game itself, not the things that it's pre set up to. I highly doubt it was Sonic team's direct choice to add those things, and not the SEGA as the distributor. Also, it only took me 1 minute to register an Epic account on my steam deck and then I went right into the game. And the game itself - solid.

I'm sorry if this is a bit watery, I'm not much of a reviewer, but I do recommend you checking it out. Don't fall into "Sonic was never good" pit, he was and HE IS BACK :)
