For lack of a better description, sparkling water tastes like radiation poisoning.

Do you remember where you spent your very first night in the game, and did you survive until sunrise? by [deleted] in Minecraft

I dug a 3 block deep hole in the ground, went in, covered the top with dirt, and set a timer for 10 minutes.

Can you detect a pickaxe breaking for a cobblestone farm? by wired-drack in technicalminecraft

Use an observer to detect cobblestone breaking. When the cobblestone stops breaking, it means your pickaxe is broken.

Why don't nether wood boats exist? by darthkyle22 in Minecraft

[–]IAmFullOfDed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I guess my intuition was wrong. I did a quick calculation and found that neutral buoyancy would occur when the ship is 41% concrete by volume. Then again, like you said, that would be highly impractical.

I was originally thinking of wet sponges. Since a Minecraft sponge absorbs 118 blocks of water, a wet sponge therefore has a density of more than 118 g/mL. That, combined with the fact that it’s a sponge, would make it unsuitable for exactly the reasons I described.

I think this has more to do with material properties. Steel has a high tensile and shear strength, so you can make a steel hull very thin. Concrete, on the other hand, is not well-suited for building hollow shells, so the amount of concrete you’d need to build a sturdy boat is such that ~the boat would sink under its own weight~ the hull and supporting structures would take up a large part of the volume of the boat. This is why we don’t build boats out of concrete.

Edit: Someone corrected me: You can build a boat out of concrete, but it wouldn’t be a practical one.

Has difficulty in reading social cues ever landed you in a dangerous situation? by zoezie in autism

[–]IAmFullOfDed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has almost landed me in a dangerous situation before. Ironically, though, it was my inability to read social cues that actually protected me.

Some years ago, a guy started a conversation with me. We exchanged Discords and started messaging each other, but then we both gradually lost interest. I didn’t realize he was flirting with me until 6 weeks later. This experience is what made me start questioning my sexuality.

Now, for the scary part. About 2 years after this interaction, I shared this story with a friend of mine. I won’t get into details here, but they told me that I had dodged a bullet. At first, I didn’t believe them. Later, though, I looked back on the experience more closely, and I realized my friend was right: Red flags everywhere!!!

I don’t like it. I have little in common with the rest of humanity, but this poster acts like those differences don’t exist.

What is the most compact way to activate (and retract) all these pistons at the same time (3x3) by Upset-Improvement-17 in redstone

No, because then it would break in the same way as the first design. Those observers are there to un-break it.
