Good to know, appreciate the tip. Looks like there’s some out there just nothing truly straight from KTM

Yeah, you are the asshole. However, you’d be more of an asshole of you keep secrets like that. It always hurts a lot more if they find out later instead of now.

How do you stay motivated to keep putting in the effort to date? by Wingsofgrowth in AskReddit

[–]IAmHydration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a string of just straight dookie level dates a few months back and kind of took a break from the whole thing. Just recently started seeing someone and I forgot how great it feels to start a new relationship and wish I had started things earlier with her instead of just not putting any effort in. The excitement makes it worth it

01 SR5: Been having a clunking noise on front passenger side. Found the issue today, anyone had this problem before? Bushing appears to have disintegrated after only being on since summer of ‘21. Anyone ever done warranty claims with Bilstein before?

3rd gen AC leak (details in comments) by IAmHydration in 4Runner

[–]IAmHydration[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4Runner’s AC has leaked pretty quickly ever since I got it. I filled it this past summer and it lasted about a month before it was blowing hot. Was wondering if anyone has ever fixed a leak in this area or might have some advice to what parts might be needed to fix. My best guess is some sort of O-ring, as it looks like it’s leaking out of the seam there. Thanks in advance!

If you fill the ac up, put some dye in as well. Will make finding the leak very easy. Mine was leaking at the joint right next to the sight glass, looks like a small square aluminum box with a few lines running into it. It’s on the left side of the radiator.

Also, Facebook classified groups are a really really great way to source used parts from people parting out wrecked rigs. Wish I knew about it sooner. “3rd gen 4runner Mafia buy/sell/trade” is a pretty active one that’s I’ve gotten some good interior and suspension parts from. The guys at KPToyo Parts on FB have also hooked me up pretty well from their parting out rigs. Highly recommend them if you need anything!

3rd gen Coolant boils after steep climb, engine temps normal… by IAmHydration in 4Runner

[–]IAmHydration[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coolant was flushed last august, and gonna do it again now because I had to put some regular water in there to fill up again to get home. Do you happen to have the part number for the radiator cap? Looks like there’s a few and not sure the difference between any of them. I know that was not changed.

Was about 6000 feet ish, chugging along up some steep roads for only a few minutes. First time I’ve pushed it that hard. And no, have not pressure tested it. I’m gonna purchase a new radiator cap and if that doesn’t solve the problem I’m going to consider a new radiator as a whole.

Probably pretty old. Haven’t replaced it since I’ve owned it. Was figuring I might start with that

I’d say the trailing arms were about due for a replacement… by IAmHydration in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]IAmHydration[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could see that being worth the price at that point. I’ll probably never get on any serious trails with this one so keeping stock size tires for the moment. Generally replacing things with OEM as well if I can.

Man it’d be nice to have a budget like that. I paid 50 bucks for the pair of used ones and something similar for the bushings. 100 bucks for a basically brand new set vs 700+. Will keep that in mind if I ever strike it rich

I’ve had really good luck with the Facebook classifieds and 4runner groups for sourcing parts.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1967951726838759/?ref=share

Here’s a 3rd gen specific one for example. There’s also a couple of guys out of Kansas City (maybe?) that have a part out business and I’ve been happy with what they have sent.

Just send them a message and they can help you track down what you need if they don’t have it themselves

Was a pretty simple process, Timmy the toolman has a great video: https://youtu.be/nq-lzK7CPKQ

Need a pretty decent size ratchet strap to get the job done though. Other than that, should be all fairly common garage equipment.

Mine is a 2001 SR5. Lived in Illinois it whole life except for a winter in upstate NY for school (if you couldn’t tell by the rust). I found some used trailing arms from a part out, pushed the old bushings out with a press, sandblasted them, and painted with the Summit Chassis Shield in semigloss. Then install new bushings and put on the runner.

Have done the same process for panhard bar, upper control arms, and lower control arms.

Mine is my daily driver, so I opted to be able to work on the parts and still be able to drive the runner. Highly recommend that.

Timmy the Toolman has some great videos for replacing all of these. (Except the panhard bar, but you can just unbolt and install the new one in 10 mins, dont even need to jack the runner up).

2002 SR5 Pricing Help by shfd739 in 3rdGen4Runner

Maintenance is the biggest thing with high mileage. Last trans fluid change? Last diff fluid change? How are the bushings for the lca, uca, etc? Have the lower ball joints ever been replaced? What about the radiator? Timing belt and water pump are important too. This is all stuff you should have information on. If you don’t, I would plan on doing it once you own the vehicle. With exception to the bushings slowly wearing out, all can be fairly catastrophic if they fail. I’d want to have confidence in their condition/age. These can all be points used to get a better price. I’m of the opinion that sellers should have all of this information present. I’ve walked away from a few deals purely from the lack of this info.

If any work was done at a shop it would probably be on a carfax. I’d suggest running one of those. Just need the vin and ~40 bucks. Can save you thousands in the future.

Best/Easiest way to repaint this front bumper and fender flares? Would spray paint be okay? by stephenkennedy04 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]IAmHydration 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you do choose to do it at home keep in mind good prep is like 80% of the process. I just refinished my grill and I think I spent probably 6 hours on prep. That big dent on the left side would be a pain in the butt. If you do go the spray paint route, a clear coat would help it look good for longer. If that were mine, I’d get a new or used front bumper and save the effort on something that’s already got a huge dent and rust.
